Cool coincidence! Dija know that the Spanish and the Celts did a lot of mingling? In Northern Spain, there are still traces of Irish culture, and the term "Black Irish" stems from the Spanish who bred with Irish to produce Celts with dark hair and eyes. From Wikipedia: "More significantly, related distantly to the term Black Irish, researchers believe that most of the genetic ancestry was established by ancient migrations to the British Isles after the Ice Ages, which had depopulated the islands. The prehistoric people came from the Iberian peninsula and genetic links have been demonstrated with Basque ancestors." I'm not a Basque, though. e.e I'm Catalan. Like Puyol! He's the dude who scored against the Germans. ..you can see the resemblance.

It's a lot safer than it looks.. lol It's basically just fried potatos and onions in a frying pan, and then you take some scrambled raw egg and dump it on top. Let it cook for a bit to cook the egg, and it comes out like that. Slice it like a pie. Kinda like homefries in an omelette, but, sliced like a pie.

Flamenco! It's beautiful to watch, and to listen to. Every rhythm in Flamenco is actually a different style, called "campos". You can hear it in the beat, the differences. Watching live flamenco, with live musicians, is amazing and beautiful. Gaudi! One of the greatest architects of all time, his creations are inspirational even to this day. Nobody can duplicate his form, or attention to detail, which is still demonstrated because the damned cathedral still isn't finished! Paella! It's freaking delicious. Antonio Banderas! He is considered one of Spain's "national treasures". Can't say I blame 'em. But the truth is, I'm only 1/2 Spanish. The Spanish half of me are my nose, my voice, and my ego. The Salvadorian part of me is Pipil, which has given the world... Pupuasas? We'll, they're delicious. That's all I got.
  13. Really good article about what happened yesterday.. The Glory of Spain One of my favorite quotes...

  19. Also, you wanna talk flopping... Oh, and this... Oh, and it's probably not a good idea to get THIS CLOSE TO THE REF while yelling at him.
  20. I'm totally with you, Tydis. I hope this allows Brazillians to open their eyes and enjoy their own culture. I gotta say, the best thing, to me, about American culture, is how easy it is to lampoon. Americans are freaking hilarious.
  21. See, I dissagree. I don't think they were great. I think that people expected them to be great, because they're Brazil. But the coach didn't even put Ronaldinho on the field, and he's a freaking genius. So that tells you something about what they're trying to do, and it explains a lot of the flailing game play they've had, lately, wherre they chase after the ball instead of use their possession the way Spain does. Difference is, Brazil used to do it with flair.
  22. He only predicted the games involving Germany, and then since he was hyped so much, they let him predict the final one. And to be honest, toward the end I had very little faith in Brazil. Their ridding themselves of "The Beatiful Game" style that they used to play has done nothing but turn them mediocre. You know how Spain won? Consistency and strategy. Okay, watch Spain and people will complain that they're boring because all they do is pass pass pass. Yes, and do you know WHY they pass? Because when they get possession of the ball, they use it to spread out the field. See, it's hard to score when all 11 players are all bunched up near the goal. So Spain will pass back and forth between themselves, luring the other team toward them, and then just as the other dude is right on top of him.. bam! He passes it to someone nobody noticed. And they do this over and over and over until the field is spread, and the other team gets frustrated. So while the Dutch players were trying their damndest to steal the ball by tackling and swinging such, the Spanish players played it cool, waited for breaks in their defense, and went for it. Spain has an amazing defense. Puyol (my dude!!) scored the winning goal against Germany, and he himself is a defensive player. Our goalie, Casillas, is exceptional. He blocked the few shots on goal the the Dutch managed to make, and it's hard to break Spain's defensive wall. So yes, while other teams are known for their style (Brazil, though not anymore..) and other teams are known for their aggressiveness (Germany, England) in the end, the team that won was the team that had the best TEAM WORK. No other national teams had that kinda team work, and yanno why? 'cuz more than half of the team plays on the same team year 'round!! Link to Barcelona's line-up; notice Xavi, Puyol, and "the rest"! The other national teams just don't have that. They don't have the team-work, and they don't have the consistancy. That's why England lost, that's why America lost; they have great individual players, but in terms of strategy, they're all running around trying to get ball possession, then lose it once they grab it.
