1.
You're right, it does not say anywhere that Hearthstones are walkie talkies. That's what guilds imagine. Imagine..imagination. *Thinks about doing a spongebob joke, but refrains* And yes, it has it's lore problems, and is not completely 100 percent checked by Steve from accounting plausible.

 2.
In the novel Stormrage, hearthstones are depicted as very rare objects. King Varian believes them to be only a legend. "Things heard only in stories concerning magi... or elves." Hearthstones are used by Tyrande, Broll, and others to quickly hurry back to Darnassus after the Nightmare attacked stormwind. In the end, the group was ambushed and only Broll made it back.[citation needed]

In The Shattering: Prelude to Cataclysm, Jaina Proudmoore gives Anduin Wrynn a hearthstone set to Jaina's tower in Theramore so that he could get away whenever Varian is in one of his Lo'Gosh moods. She explains that it would bring Anduin straight to her hearth. The rune on the hearthstone means "home". It also has runes that refer to the location it is set to.[2] Anduin later used the hearthstone to escape Ironforge when it fell under the control of the Dark Iron clan.[3] -WoWPedia, Stormrage

It isn't just a fancy rock. It is supported in lore. Tyrande used one. Anduin used one. Jaina gave one to Anduin set to her tower. Rare they may be, but they ARE supported in lore, and they do exist.

 3.
You make a good point. Though I still wonder why the whole hearthstone=magical radio network thing doesn't make sense. From what I've gathered in the guilds that use it, each hearthstone is part of a magical network extending to anyone else with a hearthstone. It isn't perfect, and I may be wrong, but it doesn't seem too far-fetched. This is a land where demons can be called from the nether and people use the Light(See:magic) to heal wounds.

 4.
Sorry "The Last Redemption" didn't work out for ya.

 5.
So scaaaaaarry *Hides* Awesome avatar, btw.

 6.
While I agree on game mechanics=/= lore on most of the stuff, but Hearthstones are something I'd like to stick by. Yes, it is a little odd and far-fetched to be able to teleport across the world, but if that is true, mage portals are out too. I go by the fact that you can use them to communicate, alot of guilds do use this method, and that if your hearthstone is magically bound to a certain place(inns) that you can activate it and use it. *Shrug* Just mu opinion, though everyone is entitled to their own.
