Guild age requirements.

Recommended Posts

I think a max age would be inherient in the game itself, think about it if you were too old that people wouldn't wanna play with you. You would probably be eatting dinner 2 hours before raid time.

Plus you can pick out the old people pretty easy they always have their turn signal blinking on their mount and ride it on walk.

I personally find trying to get around their walkers on to a zepplin the biggest pain. Couldn't have anyone installed an elevator at the one in Tristfal for the poor people?

I, the player of Lupen, am not above 18. I'm 16 years old. I like to consider myself Mature (for the most part, lapses here and thar.) 18+ guilds, I can understand for Sexual reasons, but simply not for maturity. I know a great number of people who are immature and twice my age.

Sexual contact, legality aside, I don't care. It's a game, it's a role to play, most characters do have a sexual side to them. Lupen certainly does, hell, he's spoken about raping his female kills before he consumes them. Is this vile and horrid? Yep. Is this innapropriate? No, it is a role.

And, if you're curious, to hell with age restrictions. I loves my porn, and I loves my booze.

If I didn't already know the truth, I'd swear Lupen was 25-35 years of age. He's honestly a hell of a lot more mature than I am at 37.

People talking about "how hardcore" their drinking is always strikes me as entertaining, teenagers most of all.

I don't how cool you think you are, Canadian Beer > Your Face

I Lead a guild on another server far far away, and we have a strict 18+ policy for the simple fact that due to the often graphic nature of the conversation held in the guild vent, its an 18 and older place. I'm covering my butt legally, for the same reasons Mort has a mature section here.

Many states in the US are passing stricter and stricter online minor-protection acts. The sad truth is the owner-provider of the vent server -can- be held liable if little Bobby-joe tells you they are only 16 and hears something naughty.

And really, since we run all guild events in vent, why guild someone who will be made to feel left out? Its just a more even-handed and drama-free solution just to throw up a ' No minors alowed' sign and leave it at that.

Meh, I live different lives then most teenagers. A great mom and a very party going Dad. So I have the angel and devil on my shoulder, very balanced. Hell, if I can drink and go see Shrek 3, why the hell not. Life is fun, life is once, do what you will.

O_O I'm so disturbed at the moment. I need a moment to process this.... >_<

All the talk about underage drinking is definately not making me think you kids are mature.

Anyways, I agree with a lot of the reasons people have posted for their age restriction policies. And yes I've run into peple that were grandparents that had less maturity than one would hope for. But that was a rare event indeed. On the other hand almost every time I've been guilded with a teen player it's ended up causing me nothing but greif, so I choose to avoid doing so now.

If someone is going to be an exception to the rule then they generally show it in their actions before the question of age even becomes an issue.

I know that I think twice about bringing a 16 year old into my guild for quite a few reasons.

1. The annoying factor. Lets face it, if Im going to have to sit through a raid with your ass for 3-4 hours at a time you better not be annoying. Maybe this is a sweeping generalization, but most younger players are annoying. Not to say all of em are, we have our share of younger players in the guild (15-16-17, etc) but its because they've both been with us for so long, and have also proven themselves not to be lame. They do come with a different set of issues...

2. Time to play. Some 16 year olds have parents that give a shit, others dont. You dont see too many 21 year olds get their internet plug pulled, or have time restrictions on their game, or have their parents take their computer for a month. An older crowd is normally able to commit to a more stable timetable.

3. Maturity. There is (in fact) a large difference between laughing at an elaborate story revolving around womens panties and laughing at the word boobies. And while some people still find boobies to be hysterical (*cough* Tarlithion *cough*), others much less so. An example of this being 'lol drink=fun amirite?' Doesnt impress (not to jab at anyone on TNG, but as a more recent example of someone who tried to get in the guild under the pretense of being mature).

Some guilds can deal with a young crowd, others consist of an older group who dont want to talk to kids. Your best bet to get into any guild age aside is to group with em, chat with em, and find out why they have that age restriction there.

Did that...

Yep, did that too...

or have their parents take their computer for a month.

...it was actually longer than a month.

An older crowd is normally able to commit to a more stable timetable.

Had this problem with my younger one. Damn good at Jedi Academy, at the cost of his grades. I don't think his clan was too happy with me (or him) when I throttled back (and eventually stopped) his playtime due to his grades in school. He was 14 or 15 at the time. He's a good kid, just needed a priority adjustment. :) He's getting A's and B's in college now. :D

Hmm, I must sound like a nerd for saying I drink. My friend "does" drugs "a lot" and I always say the "Oh, your cool" thing. Drinking is my excuse to have fun. I play WoW while the party goes on upstairs. So, in you eyes I am a nerd, yet in their eyes I am a nerd. I am so confused. I take back my "straight alchohol FTW!" statement back because that was fairly lame. Drinking is fun, being social is fun, playing WoW is a good time, but has nothing on being social. I have been grounded for 6 months now due to bad grades. Guess what made them fall...not drinking but World of Warcraft. I am reduced to lieing that I have homework that I can only do on the computer just to check my myspace and the tng. Welcome to hell for an adolesant kid. No WoW, no internet, and all because my parents believe I am smart. I got some news for ya...I'm not that smart.

...

Wow, buddy.

Seriously, you might want to pay more attention to your studies. It's a lot easier to play WoW when you've got a good job and nobody breathing down your neck. You're only in school for a few years, but the internet will (hopefully?) always be there.

It's tough when you're younger to see the "big picture" that everyone keeps throwing at you and you have a tendancy to concern yourself with living in the moment.

I can say from experience that I made some bone-headed decisions in my late teens and early twenties. While they haven't resulted in anything crippling, things probably would have gone a lot smoother.

As far as drinking, contrary to what some believe it's not all it's cracked up to be. I went on a terrible binge right after I graduated high school that almost ended up with my now wife never seeing each other again. Why, because I was so concerned about living in the moment of no more school, no more living with my family and hanging out with my friends and having "fun".

For now, you'll just have to suck it up. Trust me, you'll thank yourself in the long run.
