Worth the effort?

Ok, this is going to be long.

Alright. I took a 3-4 month break from WoW. due to 2 reasons..
#1. my account was hacked.
#2. I was burned out.

I had a 70 druid on Hakkar, and a 65 mage on Spirestone. The first time it was hacked, I was able to reset my password and what not. But the damage had already been done. The person didn't sell or vendor any of my gear, they did much worse. They transf. my 2 highest toons to PVE servers. I'm not sure what the reasoning for this was, but this pretty much killed my desire to play all together. They were smart this time and changed the email on the account, so I could not retrieve my password. I think somehow the email account I used to set the account up had been compromised, they just didn't change my password for it.. in order to remain undetected. Thats the only way I can think of.

Anyway, I quit for 3 months and just kind of let it go. But, I got the interest to play again.. and just figured I'd start all the way over. Which I love this server, and guild.. and I love my new toon. I just wish my old characters could still be of use to me now. I was debating trying to go through the process of getting the account back. at the time it happened, I was told and read that Blizzard would not reverse server transf. for ANY reason. Today I found a form that would allow you to request just that! So, that sparked my interest in trying to get it back.

My question is, do you think that it will be worth it? Has anyone dealt with a hacked account with blizzard? How long did you have to wait?

It's totally worth it-having your account hacked is one of the worst feelings in this game (my BF got his acct hacked.) It feels nice to get revenge on them by gaining control back, and also possibly ruining whatever business transaction the hackers may have performed if they sold the account. Of course, yours sound like they were just bitter spiteful little shits-hopefully horrible things happen to them IRL.

BTW-Sorry we (SMU) rolled you last night in Southshore. We had just had a guild meeting and had to kill something. <3

Ok, I found out that I can call bliz and as long as I know the security question. I can have the email on the account changed and reset the password. However. I am trying to figure out how to keep it from getting hacked again, since.. to change the email you have to know the security question.. hmmmm

I think there are more important questions here, like how did this person get access to your account? Do you have viruses on your computer? Have you run checks to see what sort of malware is on it?

I have a new computer now.. so at this point it doesn't matter how they got it.. more importantly if they still have it, or if there is some way for me to keep them from changing anything if they still have it. Security question is really a terrible way to keep track of accounts.. last 4 of SSN works better.. because thats ID theft when you start stealing those.. and you'll do prison time if you get caught.

ok.. so now.. I have 2 accounts...

I figured out how to solve the whole "if they have my info" problem.

Once i get the emailed changed.. immediately transfer the toons I want to keep to a new account, with a new security code. voila... secure again.

You can also transfer servers while you transfer accounts. Just sayin. : D

It is completely up to you if you want to go through the drama for this. In the end it is YOUR decision. Personally I'd go through with it cuz fuckers like that will never win against me.

well update:

I called bliz yesterday around 4.. spent 45 minutes on hold. finally a nice guy named Ted answered.. asked me my name, and secret answer and BINGO BANGO.. my password was reset and sent to my email of choosing.. no questions asked. Well I was on the way home when I did this.. and when i got home the account admin page was not working.. it never worked for me the entire night.. so I was unable to change my info. Well the sneaky little bastard that hacked me.. was able to access it apparently and reset the password right back again. So now I have to call again and start the process all over again. The good news is.. i put a GM ticket in on Mabius for that account and they have started an investigation.. so at the very least the account will get locked until they are done so this asshole can't play on my toons.
