Caede walked the paths of the Moonglade. She was taking a day's vacation to clear her mind. She smiled to the druids in training as she passed by, but it was a troubled smile that made them wonder.

She found her way to the Stormrage Barrow Dens where she wouldn't be bothered. The guards looked at her but she simply turned away and walked down to the edge of Lake Elune'ara. She sat down, shifted a couple times before sitting with her bum on the ground and her kneels pulled up to her chest. She gazed into the shimmering water of the lake.

I told you.

The princess turned her head, looking around her. She saw no one but the trees and the wildlife surrounding her, then a soft goldish pink glowing butterfly caught her eye. Caede blinked a few times before looking back to the lake and shouting, with her eyes closed tight:

"Who are you! Show yourself!"

You can't see me, princess. Just hear me.

An image flashed in her mind. An image of death. She felt cold and pulled her arms tighter around her, her eyes squeezing themselves as closed as possible.

"Get out of my head."

If only it was that easy.

Caede stood violently, glaring out into the lake with an angry edge to her voice, "I want you out!"

I've angered you, princess. Why for?

She said nothing, tears now falling from her eyes.

I've made you cry, now. Follow the butterfly, princess.

The butterfly she had spotted earlier fluttered around infront of her face. It flew to the giant moonwell like structure with a platform in the center. It flew to the center of the platform and fluttered there. Slowly, she walked to the butterfly and lifted her hands to capture it. As soon as she touched it's wings, it disappeared from existance.

You're a funny woman, Princess. You've now gone crazy. Be proud.

"I've not gone crazy."

How else can you hear me?

"You're just some spiteful sprite with nothing else to do."

Believe it or not, I'm part of your past.

Caede said nothing, looking up into the light above her.

I am.

An image flashed infront of her eyes, a face that was almost unrecognizable from the touch of death. Caede felt weak, her stomach felt strange before light flooded her eyes and she collapsed to the ground, unconcious.

Oh, gods, now you've done it.

((I like it! It's always fascinating the way insanity, or the process of -possibly- going nuts, plays out for the different characters who experience it. Please, proceed.))

A day later, she stood at what felt like the edge of the world. Caede was gazing out into the sea, her body glowing unusually and the air around her glittered with golden butterflies.

"What magic is this?"

Your spirit.

"My spirit?"

Your soul.

"So it is my ethreal being."

Exactly, Princess. You're beginning to understand, to realize the truth.

"Truth?"

That you're dead. You're not supposed to be here.

"You're a fool."

I'm not the one talking to myself.

Caede narrowed her eyes and sat down on the ground.

"I hate you."

(a sound of laughter) Oh ho, Princess. I didn't think you were capable of such an emotion.

"Sarcasm is your forte."

Your mother said the same thing when she was irritated with me.

"Isn't it you whom is supposed to hate me?"

She stood, walking closer to the edge with the wind rippling the skirt of her robes.

"Isn't that why you wanted me to die in the first place? Since I took your beloved wife from you?"

The voice in her head was silent, she spun on her heel and she saw him. Her father, in the flesh before her. She stumbled backwards but he caught her by the front of her robe. He pulled her up roughly away from the edge and threw her onto the whole part of the cliff.

"You need to learn your place, Child," the man spoke. His voice was cold.

"You..." She found herself short of words. "You..."

He stepped closer, glaring down at his daughter, a half-assed smile on his face, "Cat got your tongue?"

"I hate you."

He raised an eyebrow, smiling cockily, "Tell me something I don't know."

"I want you to leave me alone. I want to live my life the way I want it!" She was shouting at him, there were tears at the corner of her eyes.

"I'm part of you, Princess. Part of you."

"LEAVE ME ALONE!" She screamed, squeezing her eyes shut. Her body, of which had faded when her father appeared, started to glow again. The butterflies materialized once more and Caede slowly stood.

She held her hands infront of her and called down Starfire upon her father. He was surrounded in the arcane light and then fell after a moment. Caede stepped up to him, lifting her staff and pushing him over. Her foot landed on his chest and she pushed him down.

"I hate you. I want you to leave me alone. Get out of me and my life."

He snickered then faded. She stumbled and fell to the ground and the voice was back in her head.

You're stuck with me, princess.
