View Full Version : Empty spaces in the world

As most (should) know, there are many "abandoned" buildings in the world, such as the whole Park area in Stormwind. These would, no doubt, be great for RPing in, but I wonder how many people already have "dibs" on these various areas? Are these empty lots heavily contested, or used?
Thanks for your time! :)

It's kinda hard to take dibs on certain areas, which sucks. The large tavern in the Park, for instance, my guild was using as their guild hall when somebody burst in and claimed it as their tavern.
Usually when things like that happen, we just try to roleplay over it, or leave, since we've played out in-character that we bought the place. So yeah, I'm sure it can be quite a problem at times. However, if you pick places that are out of the way a bit, it'll lessen the chances of that happening. We probably brought it on ourselves by picking a place in the Park, hehe.

Barke and Rhowen own those steps in SW by proxy.
Edit: And it never fails to be fun, kicking Barke's girlfriends off them. ^_~ The last one was like, "Well, then I guess I'll be going." And Rho responds with, "That's a good girl," completely engratiatingly, and then she got called a bitch. ^_^ It was glorious.

The top of the tower just to your right as you enter Orgrimmar is Emmons' office/lair (dependent on whether he is plotting/hiding, or conducting business). However, if anyone wishes, it can be rented out for meetings and events, just send a letter addressed to Emmons Indiana, and ask to set up a meeting so we can negotiate a price.

This is where I get upset:
The Undercity is supposed to be a sprawiling labrynth of chambers and passageways. It used to have a balcony in the outer ring, but they removed the doors! There is almost no free space inside the Undercity, just walking room, no seperate rooms. Even the inn is just a few coffins and a bookshelf. My "office" per se is in the Apothecarium. Shadowspeak commonly dabbles with postions and such trying to help formulate the new plague as fast as possible.
Orgrimmar has a few empty spaces here and there, but not many. This unlike the Undercity is quite large with actual houses and whatnot.
Thunderbluff I don't think has any empty space anywhere, and if it does, it's a tent. Less to work with in THunderbliff than Undercity I guess.
Now, Stormwind. I once made a paladin on I think it was Thorium Bortherhood, mabey Kirin Tor. Anyhow, I went into the abandond inn in the back of the park. theres a guild that WORKS THE BAR. I had the greatest time telling stories and sharing a few drinks with some others. It was wonderful, but what pisses me off is that... the fact that Allliance have this and Horde do not.
Ironforge: Dont even begin on this. IF has about a MILLION houses with no one in it, providing many places.
I am not sure exactly about Darnassuss, I have only been there a few times and I wasn't exactly welcome, hehe  .
In any case, Alliance are gifted in the way of free space. WHile... this doesn't seem relevant at all, I find it very important to me.

Yeah, we were in the tavern in the Military Ward and someone came up, "unlocked the door", then demanded why we were in their house.
...uh...
I don't think any free space should have a claim laid on it. You can have once central spot you meet at, but until Blizzard actually lets you buy guild halls, then it'll always be common space.
Just...don't say the tavern is your house...c'mon... >_>

In the Valley of Honor, there's a tower near the mining and blacksmithing people that, while occupied on the bottom floor, has a wonderful view and shaded balcony of sorts at the top. As a bonus, it's a jump away from the stone edge of the arena thing. Nice place to be alone, or perhaps for a rogue meeting that isn't in the Shadows.

((*is annoyed at the devs for giving alliance lots and lots of taverns with chairs, and horde gets only one tavern that has chairs. It's in Brill and it serves no booze.*
Really, Horde got the short end of the RP stick. No RP-Props lovin' for the Horde by Blizzard. Hell, besides all the empy houses, several halls (Dwarven area in Storwwind has a killer meeting hall) need I mention the Tram area? ))

When is the next storytime? I would LOVE to attend that from what I saw in the first one.

Last time I was there, there was a rogue going around stealthed, pretending to be a ghost haunting the place. Alliance are strange.
That is quite original and cute! I love it!

I checked all of Orgrimmar for any empty houses... found none.
I allways notice this house and tower on the way into orgrimmar from the beidge, the tower and house dont even have a door. Blizzard just stuck them there because that pathway looks a little barren...
*gets even more frustrated.*
edit: Im going to make it my personal quest today to find a home.

I know the Wisps and Spirits too, though I've gone there. My paladin, Jaced, plays on that server, and I actually think I've seen you around a few times, Chavie ^^ I heard that the W&S was kinda elitist towards RPers that aren't in their particular circle, though, so I've always shyed away.

One thing that horde has is roof tops. there are many a spot to park yourself above all the others and remain out of view.... but I wish there were more empty places. I had labeled the little house next to the orphanage, in front of the lake in org, as a half way house for older children who were lost, down and out, or victims of a family slaughter from other cities. That is where Xoscyl spent much of her time before she ventured out into the world. But it doesn't necissarily need to be that for everyone. *shrugs*

Oh, and on another server...... i can't remember the name.... where there is a dock on thereamore Isle, there is an empty boat. There, some people would hold a cross-faction tavern. It was pretty neat. My 'Bard' would frequent it often.

When I click "here" it says it no longer exists... is it cross-faction? If it isn't, ide be glad to be a bouncer. If it is, I would still make a good bouncer (I can both talk to Alliance and, well, you know  ).

But the question is raised: What would we need bouncers for then? Not like I can attack someone if they misbehave!

Pythre and myself own the fountains in Stormwind, especially the one in front of the AH. If you see a cat lazing about, and a gnome sneaking around eavesdropping, say hello and rp.

I like to call a house in near the Mystic Ward Turens, but I've walked in on people cybering on it once. Whew got some interisting roleplay outta that one!

Speaking of a simular situation, there's a house in Cut-throat Alley in Stormwind that I know a TON of people have used forever and a day for anything from private guild/political meetings to, of course, cyber. So, a friend wanted to talk about some personal in-character issues there the other day and suddenly - BAM! Someone comes walking in saying it's thier home. O_O Six months of RPing in that house and suddenly it belonged to someone for generations...

The closest thing Fhenrir could call to a home is this cool little cliff-side place up in Mulgore. It's a nice little sealed off area in the mountains that you seem to be only able to get to due to silly Blizzard pathing maps. Never had an issue sharing it, don't think I ever will.
Why does any player character need a house anyway? There are inns to spend the night at, not to mention I'm sure you could just sleep under the stars, via sleeping bag or tent.
Would an adventurer really have the extra funding for a house? Or spend enough time at said house to justify owning it?

Pylith used to own a business in Menethil before joining the Regiment, so he used the gold he made selling it to buy a place in the Military Ward in Ironforge.
It was relatively cheap.. mostly because of the noises of the Seige Brigade and Air Corps forced out other tenants.. but he's on duty too much to sleep at home often. ... He is looking at this nice two-floor deal in the Explorer's Ward though..

I think what would solve most of the problems for overlapping would be if everyone took turns. Of course, that is too diplomatic and would never happen. You'll always have griefers - even if they do RP.
I hope to, with my future guilds, to incorporate the tavern idea. I found two taverns, a small one and a larger one. I really, really like that idea.

Shigana would take any place she wanted.
But people who cyber need to learn the wonders that is party chat..
Makes it easier to walk places and not go...bleh...
>_<
But ATM, Shigana uses the taverns in the mage district and Cut Throat alley for her stuff. Regardless of who "owns" it
