World of Warcraft
Choose your Own Adventure
PAGE 26
Your dream ends abruptly as you feel a foot nudging at your side. Slowly you open your eyes, to see a large Orc standing over you. He is of muscular build, and wearing the red-studded armor of the armies of the Horde. He glares down at you.
"On your feet, recruit!" he barks.
Quickly, you scramble to your feet. You are standing in a cave in Durotar, surrounded by young Orcs and Trolls. They all seem to have just woken up, and stood up next to their piles of straw, the same as you have done. You rub your eyes wearily and start to remember where you are. It was yesterday that you agreed to join the brave armies of The Horde in their fight against the evil and treacherous Alliance. After a grueling day of physical training, you and the other recruits collapsed into your "beds" and immediately passed out.
"Today," barked the gruff Orc drill sergeant, "You will choose the path you will follow. When I stand in front of you, you will shout out your race, and proudly announce your chosen path!" The drill sergeant makes his way around the beds, and each recruit yells out their race and their path. You are the third person he approaches. "YOU!" he shouts, "Who you be?"
You yell out ...
"I am an ORC WARRIOR!" - turn to PAGE 37
"I am a TROLL HUNTER!" - turn to PAGE 6
"I am a TAUREN SHAMAN!" = turn to page 55
"I am a FORSAKEN WARLOCK!" = turn to page 12

You adjust your musty robes and yell, "I am a Foresaken Warlock!" As you do, a roach scuttles from under your robes across the floor, and a bit of flesh drops off your jaw.
"Well then," says the drill sergeant, "get out there and talk to Necros, commander of our demonic forces. He'll get you trained up and ready to fight for the glory of the Horde! Take this." He throws a tabard at you. The tabard is emblazoned with the symbol of the Horde forces. Quickly, you slide it on over your head, and run out the cave entrance into the blazing sun of Durotar.
The heat of the morning quickly warms your dry bones as you squint into the sunlight, looking around the courtyard. The arid desert feels even more oppressive for you than for the other living recruits. Forsaken are much more comfortable in the dark places of Azeroth. You walk past tents filled with young Horde and their commanders. Most of them are practicing using swords and shields, some of them aiming bows at distant targets. No one seems to be particularly good, and you get the feeling that most of the recruits are quite new. Over to the north side of the encampment, you see a heavily curtained tent, and catch the scent of rotting flesh that you know so well. You make your way over to it.
Inside the tent, a handful of foresaken are shuffling around a glowing mystic rune traced into the sandy ground. The light in the tent is extremely dim, and you can just barely make out all the mystical items - gems, wands, staves - that lay around the room. Most of the light is coming from rune on the floor.

A tall, almost skeletal Forsaken man steps up to you. He wears the robes of a Master, and clutches a staff in one hand. The staff hums softly. His empty eye sockets gaze down at you as he hisses, "What took you so long, recruit? Never mind, never mind. Stand with the others, and do as I tell you." Quickly, you find a spot around the runed circle and imitate the other warlocks, folding your hands in front of you and staring into the eerie light.
"Now then," says the tall Forsaken, "I am Necros. And together we shall summon your demonic companion. Look into the middle of the rune. Concentrate. Allow an image of your companion to come into your mind. Do not force it." The other warlocks lower their heads, some of them chanting as they focus. You do the same. Suddenly ...

tyhe right way to do this would let each page be a poll.
Depending on the Pole, you then make another page.

PAGE 30
You focus all your attention on the glowing runes imbedded in the floor. The room swirls around you and you begin to feel dizzy. In the haze, you see the vague forms of creatures beginning to appear. Next to you, a demonic woman steps out of the haze, viciously cracking a whip. She looks over at you and smiles, slapping her rear end and making an odd giggling sound. She takes a step towards you, but then turns and walks over to another young warlock and stands obediently next to him.
From the haze, a tiny demonic creature appears. Small and scaley, he bounces back and forth on two legs, sometimes hopping impatiently up and down. Looking over at you, the tiny creature babbles something incoherent. From your training, you know it is the language of demons, but you cannot quite understand it yet. The tiny imp starts juggling fireballs between his hands, laughing as he comes dangerously close to letting one slip away from him. He also starts to walk towards you, but turns away and goes to stand next to a rather attractive female warlock standing near you.
Finally, what is left of the haze coalesces together, and you have no difficulty making out the shape of a Voidwalker. From the rune on the floor, huge metal clamps fly up and seal themselves around the Voidwalkers's wrists, binding him to this world, and forcing his obedience. The Voidwalker seems to be drawn to the far side of the circle, where he stands next to a particularly tall forsaken man who steeples his boney fingers together in anticipation.
Necros approaches you, "What? No servant for you?"
You gaze defiantly up at your master, "I need only my spells to protect me!"
Necros laughs loudly, "Arrogant young fool! A warlock relies as much on his demonic minions as he does on himself! Students, make an example of him!" The students glare viciously at you, and order their pets to attack. You do a brave job for a while of holding off the triple enslaught, but in the end it is no use. The last thing you see is the pretty female warlock shaking her head sadly as the undead light leaves your eyes.

The ambient light in the room seems to dim, until the only thing visible is the glowing rune in the floor. One by one, the students lower their heads, gazing into the very center, and you follow suit. In your mind's eye, visions of demonic creatures begin to swirl and coalesce.
You focus all your attention on the glowing runes imbedded in the floor. The room swirls around you and you begin to feel dizzy. In the haze, you see the vague forms of creatures beginning to appear. She takes a step towards you, but then turns and walks over to a particularly tall forsaken man who steeples his boney fingers together in anticipation.
Out of the darkness and haze, a huge creature, shaped like an inverted pyramid begins to form. His body appears to be made of the same oozing blue smoke that issues forth from the rune itself. From the rune on the floor, huge metal clamps fly up and seal themselves around the Voidwalkers's wrists, binding him to this world, and forcing his obedience. The Voidwalker seems to be drawn to the far side of the circle, where he stands next to a rather attractive female warlock.

Looking over at you, the tiny creature babbles something incoherent. From your training, you know it is the language of demons, but you cannot quite understand it yet. The only part you can make out is that his name is "Isixias". The tiny imp starts juggling fireballs between his hands, laughing as he comes dangerously close to letting one slip away from him. He locks eyes with you, and moves to stand by your side, bouncing frantically. It seems that your companion has chosen you.

The light in the tent gradually begins to increase again, as the summoning ritual is completed. Looking around, you see that each Forsaken stands next to a demonic creature, just as you stand next to yours. Necros walks around the room, admiring the work of his students. "Excellent," he says, pausing by the tall Forsaken man and the Succubus he has summoned. "I was told to expect great things from you, Malleus." Necros walks past the attractive female warlock and nods, "A powerful Voidwalker, very good choice." He walks over to you, and eyes your Imp up and down. "Hmm ... interesting." Necros moves back to the head of the room. Malleus looks over at you and smirks with disdain.
"Now then, it is time for your trial. The Horde Army has no time for you to sit in your crypt reading books about how to harness demonic energy. Thrall needs soldiers now in our war against the Alliance. To that end, there are two tasks that require our immediate attention." Necros glowers down at the room of warlocks.
"First, we have a report that The Scarlet Crusade is setting up a camp in the mountains near the Crossroads. We need to know where this camp is, so we can send a squad of appropriate size to remove them. Initiates of your ... limited ... training would not be expected to handle the removal yourselves."
"Secondly, a human warlock is hiding in a cave somewhere east of Orgrimmar. His experiments are causing problems for passing caravans. Since he is only a solitary human, we are confident that even you could eliminate him."
"Finally, there are rumors that The Plague is beginning to affect the Trolls on the islands south of Sen'Jin village. If this is true, we to know what is going on, so we can send the Royal Apothocary Society to remove the infection before the Trolls begin to fall to the Scourge."
Necros eyes the room slowly, from face to face, "So ... which adventure draws your attention."
