Guild Charter - Updated 12/6/2007

RP Summary

-The Ebon Banner is a militia organization formed by veterans of the Great Wars who grew tired of the Alliance's ineffectiveness in protecting its people and achieving its goals.

-The Ebon Banner - an unadorned black flag carried into battle and flown wherever the army rests - and plain black tabard which every soldier wears are symbolic of their owing allegiance to no country or kingdom; only their own comrades.

Guild Summary

-This guild was created by several long-time players who had seen their previous guilds run to the end of their natural, fun lifespans. It exists with the primary goal of having fun with people whose company is enjoyed, and everything else is secondary.

-We are an RP-PvP guild above all other in-game pursuits. This in no way means we do not enjoy PvE content - even the occasional raid - but such things will most often be left to individual groups within the guild to plan with our own members and members of friendly and allied guilds.

Guild Rules

1. Every person, idea, and discussion will be treated with respect by every member of the guild.

-Disagreements are bound to happen. However, civility must be maintained.
-Personal attacks, "flaming," or similar behavior will not be tolerated.
-Harassment of any type will not be tolerated.
-Personal disagreements should be dealt with on a personal level, not in public. If a satisfactory resolution can not be reached, bring the problem to the attention of an officer.

2. We are a role playing guild.

-All members are expected to remain in-character while communicating in /gchat, /say, and /yell channels at a minimum.
-Any incident of verified RP-griefing is grounds for immediate dismissal.
-As our black tabards server to identify us as a group, members are expected to wear their tabards over both armor and plain clothing. We have no uniform; the tabard is our bond.
-Player names will be appropriate to the genre of World of Warcraft. With the addition of paid name changes this should not hold anyone back from participating.

3. Member behavior

-Members will show respect for the other players of this game, even when that respect is not always returned.
-Members will not engage in any behaviors which embarrass, undermine, or otherwise negatively portray the guild.
-Examples of unacceptable behaviors include:
-Violations of rule 2
-Obscene gestures as defined by the mmo community: "tea-bagging," etc.
-Special note: Camping - camping is often a gray area in games such as WoW, and thus a hard rule against it is impossible. However, the guild stance on camping shall be: (a) camping shall not be unprovoked or excessive, (b) camping shall be primarily reserved for areas of defense, i.e. camping an enemy until he leaves a city or town.

-Members are not expected to play any minimum amount of time, but it is asked that if your established level of participation is going to change you let the guild know.
-Members are not required to attend any minimum number of events or meetings, but such things are important to your fellow guildmates and attendance should always be attempted.
-Members should aid each other whenever possible, especially in PvP situations.
-Members are asked to use the forum in order to keep abreast of schedules and news.

Member Ranks

The following ranks exist within the structure of the Ebon Banner. Other distinctions may be created as the guild progresses, such as specific fighting units, but these will be handled through rp differentiation and not formal guild titles. All ranks, however, are secondary to the camaraderie and equality among all soldiers of the Ebon Banner. The only members expected to refer to any other member by rank are Auxiliary members.

Auxiliary: New applicants not yet approved for veteran status.
--Responsibilities: Obtain and complete sponsorship, RP responsibility to refer to higher ranking members by rank when appropriate, adhere to all rules set down in the guild charter.

Veteran: The basic level of membership in the Ebon Banner. The great majority of our members are veterans of the great wars, and thus the title.
--Responsibilities: Adhere to the rules set down in the guild charter. Have fun.

Sergeant: Members who have distinguished themselves through their play and participation and express a willingness to take on some level of leadership and responsibility withing the guild.
--Responsibilities: Organize defenses when an officer is not present, aid in the planning and execution of PvP actions, assist in the planning and execution of events and meetings when asked. RP responsibility to behave as a leader among the veterans.

Captain: Members of this rank are considered Officers within the guild
--Responsibilities: Moderation between guild members, approval and planning of event ideas, organization of guild meetings, organizing PvP defenses, rp responsibility as related to specific area of specialty (scouting and intelligence, supply chain, etc.)

General: This member is considered to be the Guild Master of the Ebon Banner
--Responsibilities: As per officers, with the added stress of being blamed whenever anything goes wrong Grin


RP Guidelines

We want to encourage a rich and independent group of characters, but several things should tie the members of this guild together:

-Relations between the Ebon Banner and the Horde are tense, but we are not in the business of genocide. We simply don't like -either- side all that much.
-We are not at war or in active rebellion against the Alliance. We have seceded from their rule and they have chosen to not take action against us so long as we do not actively target them.
-Characters who engage in congress or sympathy toward demonic forces or the undead are not good fits for this guild. This of course does not mean warlocks are excluded, but it does mean that in an rp, in-character sense they will be watched more closely than other classes.
-All characters should have a justifiable reason for having such strong feelings against the Alliance. This isn't a decision someone makes "just because."
-Characters are no longer members of the Alliance army, and thus should keep any rank they achieved from being displayed with their character name.

Guild Application

Guild application takes several steps to complete:

1. An application is submitted in the appropriate area of the forum for review by officers and members. This application must include:
-Name of character
-Class, Race, and Level
-Reason for seeking out the Ebon Banner
-Brief rp backstory
-Previous guild affiliations

2. Applying character is put up for sponsorship
In step 2, a member of the guild (Veteran or higher) may offer to sponsor the applicant. At this point the applicant is allowed access to the guild forums and is formally added to the roster as an Auxiliary. Sponsorship comes with the responsibility of guiding the applicant and, after a minimum of 15 days, assigning a mission or quest (rp in nature but with real-world evidence such as screen shots or specific items) for the applicant to complete.

3. Membership Vote
If the applicant's mission is completed successfully, the full membership roster will vote on whether to grant them veteran status, deny their application, or extend the Auxiliary period by one week. Only one extension is allowed, and the subsequent vote (if necessary) will only offer approval or denial as options. Remember that sometimes these things boil down to whether someone is the right fit, and it should never be assumed that a personal attack is being made if things don't go the applicant's way.

In all seriousness, one of the reasons we went with the backstory for the guild that we chose was -because- of the cross-faction options.

Our guild genesis was one of my favorite moments in playing on TN. Take an angry Iraq War vet, a bunch of fans of punk and protest music, and mix with a bunch of people on vent (many of whom didn't even plan on joining the guild) wracking their brains over ways to improve our guild and ideas to form a solid foundation. I won't name names because I'd forget someone, but it was really amazing.

I've run into more people doing trying those towers than almost anywhere else, it seems. Somehow, dying to a known name is much nicer than some unknown ganker.

Hehe, I didn't kill ya.... my pet might have, but being on top of towers allows for lousy line of sight, and it'd've just been silly if I had tried to melee for something other than a wingclip.

I dunno why I was even in on that raid, really. All I did was say "Dude, it's Qabian!" when I saw him talking on LocalDefense and next thing I know he sent me an invite.

Don't even really care about those towers... I have a ton of spirit shards I'm never going to use as it is.
