"This place looks like a piece of shit."

Sanrin smiled brightly as he arrived at Lightbringer Hold for the first time, a sorry and sad mesh of mud and smoke after the heavy rain that had hit the evening before. He sighed once, looking over to his faithful ram who seems to be just excited enough moving through the mountains once more to oversee the future boredom this place promised.

"No undead would ever come this way...No Horde either! Protecting the hidden path right up in the Hinterlands? Fuck this...seriously Bobby we get all the shitty assignments..." Sanrin griped with a smile still, walking with his companion up the poorly made trail.

It had been only a few days back since he'd recieved the order to protect this post. He'd briefly seen a few names assigned to it along with him, though he took little note of these things. A change of scenery, some fresh air, and easy pay was all that really mattered. Plus...a beautiful view of the Plaguelands? How could he possibly regret such a decision! Cold, yet promising Lightbringer Hold greeted him as he marched up the washed out path. Sounds of work were barely audible though he was so close, in fact he found it strange that there was only one real worker within view: a Draenei, working furiously upon the main gate. A barracks, a small shed, a large hole in the ground he wasnt entirely even served a purpose...Sanrin sighed with each new discovery. There was a lot of work to do here.

He simply didn't want to do any of it.

((thank you, Sanrin, I'll add it to my list! I might even know a lass or two who could benefit from a little hard work.))

"Sir, I'd really appreciate a new assignment. I've been sittin' on my arse for too many months and..." Light pauses to consider her words, "and, I could use something new to focus my energy. Ye know I dunnae mind gettin' my hands dirty."

The administrator behind the desk shuffled papers back and forth several times. Finally striking upon an idea, he pulled a note from the bottom of a pile. "Well... there is this new post being started and, I believe, you are familiar with the Aerie Peak area, yes?"

"Oh, aye sir. Made quite a few friends up there in my day and ..." The man cuts her off with a wave of his hand.

"Yes, yes, of course. See what you can do with Lightbringer Hold, then."

Smiling, Light Ale takes the slip of paper from his hand and marches quickly out the door. Pausing on the steps of the building, she considers buying some new and warmer equipment to take with her.

Ryoku

((Hehe, I'll gladly keep helping this channel out.))

Shit! Ryoku thought as he heard the brutish Orcs thundering behind him. He could feel his faithful companion and steed, Kai'Shaiu's heartbeat. Desperately pounding in her chest, and the sound of her hooves thundering against the hard Alterac snow.

Almost there, come on girl. Just get away from them, if anything just take us away.

Then he heard it, the rustling next to him as a large orc leapt from the bushes next to him, and brought his crude club down on Kai'Shaiu's leg.

Crack!

"Fuck!" yelled Ryoku as he tumbled off his horse, landing face first into the snow.

As the small Orcish raiding party closed in on him, Ryoku grinned as he became much bigger, much more hairy, and a whole lot more dangerous.

A good half hour later, Ryoku was slowly walking Kai'Shaiu up the road leading to the western plaguelands. He managed to fight the Orcs off, frightening the remaining Orcs after brutally killing three of their clan. He was tired, and had spent too much of his energy fighting off the Orcs to be able to fully mend Kai'Shaiu's leg. He began to lose hope of finding a place of refuge until he heard the sounds of men and a falling hammer coming from not too far off in the distance...

Zelphie

Zelphie growled. "Stupid thing!"

Zelphie had just reached the cusp of the ridge that secluded the dingy and poorly maintained pass between the Hinterlands and the western Plaguelands. Although a fierce growl, for a female gnome prone to mischief it more resembled laughter. The Mechanostrider, an excellent representation of gnomish engineering, failed the second time on her way from the port of Southshore.

"How am I going to be able to keel stuff today in the plaguelands if you keep going bork I wonder, I wonder indeed!" she said explaining to her mount. The contraption wheezed an exasperated mechanical cough. "Oh well, guess I'll go see if they have a spare uhm...?" She furrowed in confusion, "spare.. everything... by the pass..."

Leaving the mechanostrider lay, she headed up the ridge towards a solitary camp she had remembered was there passing before. Upon reaching she saw some renovations, it appeared they were attempting to make a watch here.

"Welcome to Lightbringer Hold!" Said a field scout on seeing Zelphie's approach. His enthusiasm stressed, it was as if he was a salesman knowing she wouldn't buy anything.

Zelphie expressed helplessness. "Uhm.. okie.. well see I need to get back my strider to working! Yup! See I want to go keel stuff in the plaguelands and he no go! He is borked that's right! Uneloquently unappreciately un.. un-working!"

"Hmm.. do you know what you need fixed?"

"I need uh.. everything!" Zelphie stammered. Seeing the perplexed look on the field officer, she explained more in detail of what part she needed.

"Oh I see" the field guard began, "well there is plenty of Mithril in these parts, but first you must do a task for me. You must go into our basement and kill rats."

"Rats?!" Zelphie nearly shouted, furiously. "No rat quests! But if you really want, you kind of look like a rat to me..." her hands began glowing a shade of darkness.

"I'm kidding! Kidding! Don't hurt me, I don't want to call the guards! uh it was a joke!" the scout pleaded. He had just learned a valuable lesson of not provoking an already irate gnome warlock. "You can find several mithril veins east of here, along the river bank just before skull rock. We'll even smelt it for you, free of charge! Just be on your way ok?"

Zelphie's face changed dramatically into a childish smile, and she giggled. "Ok Mister! I'll go off then! Wish me luck!" Zelphie hurried off before the scout could say more.

The gnome was excited at seeing new places, at change. She wondered what trouble she could get into. Maybe she'd stay around here for a bit longer...

Such times. With war everywhere, the prices of goods have skyrocketed, sending even the richest of us, which I am surely not, into a panic, hiring ourselves off to earn a measly gold. Mostly slaying this or that beast or monster, many of which were just simply drawn by the conflict, the abundance of bodies giving many of these carrion eaters the sustenance needed.

In search of these riches, I had worked my way north from Southshore, skirting the blood-soaked fields of Hillsbrad. While I am confident in my abilities, and fear not confrontation, as of lately I had begun to question my beliefs, and my loyalties to the Alliance, after some unfortunate runs in BlackFathom Deeps and Gnomereagan, were in question. Much is to be said for being a solitary creature.

Yet I had heard rumors, of a ruined keep being rebuilt. Of man, night-elf, dwarf, and even ::grimaces:: gnome, working togethor.
I have traveled farther for less. Besides, I'm bored. And there is nothing worse in this world, than a bored Cat.

In my usual fashion, I prowled through the vegetation, finally seeing at a distance, the ruins, and the people working around it. Finding a nearby peak, I settled down, head on paws, to see if the rumors were true , watching, waiting...

"Watch out!" Sanrin cried, all but too late as the second wall this day had crumbled in the stables, sending his poor ram scurrying into the uneven and muddy ground that made up the keep.

"Poor construction!" Janaar yelled, stomping across the yard with a scowl. "Everytime 'uman build something, it break! They not teach you foundation?! Strong bottom, strong top!"

Sanrin smiled, watching the Draenei stomp across the yard and begin working again. He had to admit, for as dreary as things were around here this single engineer had kept the young paladin smiling. He'd never had an issue with their race in the past however he'd grown to like their habits more and more as he spent time here. Though it'd only been a day since he'd been here there was already much to do. He'd made a small home of the Barracks available to him, the lack of helping hands meant he could take a bit of time to push some of the other beds away from his own to form a makeshift office where he spent much of his time working. Only once did he ever really hear much of anything to catch his interest in the past few hours, and Zelphie had left much too quickly after threatening the guards for him to say hello.

He stood with a smile for a short period of time, watching the Draenei move logs and stone aside easilly in preparation to create a new foundation. Bobby trotted over to Sanrin with a snort, biting down hard on his sleeve in hopes of properly displaying his anger.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah...look if ya dont like it you're more then welcome to head outta this hole." Sanrin laughed, offering a pat to his woolen friend. "I put potatoes on order for ya though...and it looks like today is gonna be a good one. Two things break for every one fixed...you'd think Ol Tom would of just razed the place to the ground by now...it'd make construction..."

"Warm! Unplesant for building! Dont worry friend, work hard and Hold will be good as new. Built nicer. We get...how do say, women?" Janaar laughed loudly, walking past with what Sanrin could only imagine was a portion of a support pillar.

"I hope so...Who knows whats happening in less dreary aspects of the world."

Geofforan

Backwinging, the gryphon brought the paladin down to the landing area of the Wildhammer aeire. It felt good to feel solid ground under his feet after that ride. Ugh. Never take a discount flight again. He thought, his stomach feeling like it had been taken out and shaken by an angry troll.

Geofforan looked around. He hadn't properly explored the region on his first visit to the Hinterlands, and felt the need to fill this section of the map.

At first, when he got his map, he unfurled it and saw it was empty. Angry, he had assumed that the "mage" that sold it to him had cheated him out of one gold, until the city of Stormwind started drawing itself on the "blank" parchment.

His hands glowed gold, an equine shape made of light forming before him. It materialized into his warhorse after the three-second chant. He placed his left foot into the stirrup, swinging his right over to the other side. He set off through the trees at a trot.

His eyes on his map, he was riding past wolves and Wildkin, his horse guiding him safely through. He had filled most of the top section when he noticed something. A small gap in the northern hills. Geofforan decided to investigate.

Soon the paladin came to a pass in the hills. He rode down the grassless path until he came to a wooden wall. On the wall, there was a note nailed to one of the posts. It read:

Welcome to Lightbringer Hold,
Now get to work

Dismounting and walking through one of the gaps in the wall, the paladin saw a white-haired, armored human next to a ram, a large building with crossed swords and a shield over the door, a square, stone pit, and a draenei with a shovel , digging a pit next to the large building.

Stepping past the few workers, Geofforan walked up to the man with the ram, tapping him on the back.

"Excuse me, but what is this place, might I ask?"

((Hope I got the descriptions right. Sanrin wears armor, right?))

Sanrin turned to look curiously at the one to poke him, pausing to stare almost rudely for a while before responding.

"Ah, sorry bout that...kinda zoned out. Anyway...didn't you see the sign?" he looked over past the visitor at his wooden creation. "Hm. Lightbringer Hold this is, welcome! Here just passing or gettin put to work?" Sanrin smiled brightly, turning to fully face Geofforan.

(yup! ya did! ^.^)

She shook her hearthstone. It crackled. It sputtered. Then jumped to life, a muffled voice carrying on and on about something in the hinterlands.

"Wait.. you want me to do what with who?" she asked, her ears flattening against the sides of her head.

"Help.. tavern.... hinterlands..."

"What? First of all, I can't even go to Azeroth, let alone some tavern in the Hinterlands" She sighed, pacing the small apartment in Aldor rise. She peered down at her feet, just to make sure she wasn't burning a line in the carpet.

"Work.. send.. funds.. tavern"

She signed and picked a few strands of hair out of her antlers, still eyeballing the small hearthstone in her hand.

"Sanrin.. building....safe"

"So you're telling me that Sanrin's building a tavern in the Hinterlands, and that it'll be a safe hide away for me should I decide to sneek back into Azeroth?"

"..es.."

"Fine fine I'll ask him."

"..ank you Mae"

She sighed tucked the little stone into a pocket. The picture of her and Gralin standing side by side in the on their second honeymoon trip to Mount Hyjal, grinning wildly, nature all around them, caught her eye. It had been taken by a long-vanished friend.. and it made her heart ache for what was lost to her. She sighed.

"I hope they know what they're getting me into.. "

Seafour
12-07-2007, 09:34 AM
Seafour stood, stretching, stiff from the same postion for so long.
" Bah " He thought to himself," might as well go down there, see what's going on."
He padded down the hillside, nearing the collection of buildings.
"Hmph...not much of a set up they got here is it? " surveying the grounds critically.
Stopping at the gate, he wonders briefly if the gate is there for a reason, and erring on the side of caution, decides against scaling it.
Shifting out of Cat form, he stands at the gate. A tall, pale skinned, blue haired Kal'dorei, he feels uncomfortable once more in elven form. Fair of features, a scar from his past runs diagonal across his face to disappear in his beard.
"Hello? Anyone home" he calls out.

Sanrin
12-07-2007, 09:56 AM
He'd just started speaking to this new stranger when Seafour had started to call out at the front gate, unsure if it would be rude to simply abandon his current conversation to help the new visitor or to let this new gentlemen simply stand there unattended until another guard came to assist.

"Ah...er...give me a moment..." Sanrin spoke quickly to Geofforan, moving him aside as he made a short trot over to Seafours position. "Ah, allo? What can I help you with?" he asked politely, silently cursing how so many damn people had found this hole in the mountains.

More work...more work... he thought angrilly, unlocking barrier between them with a simply key.

Seafour
12-07-2007, 10:18 AM
"Ah, um well..." Looking past the paladin that had unlocked the gate. "Didn't mean to intrude." He pauses.
"Well, I'll be brief," squaring himself, and extending his hand. " Names' Seafour"
" I heard rumor of tavern for adventurers being built here, tis true? If so, I'm looking for work, in exchange for room and boarding from time to time."

Sanrin
12-07-2007, 11:06 AM
"Well..." sighed Sanrin in thought, "We have about three fifths of a chapel, a..." he paused to look over at the recently demolished stables, "a third of a stable. A complete and fully operational mailbox, some beds....something else too. But if you'd like to help build a tavern I dont see why not! You'll just have to stick around through all the other hard parts first!"

And with a laugh Sanrin ushered the new traveler into the Hold, locking the gate behind him with a quick turn and click.

"Professions? Background? I'll need ya to fill some paperwork so we keep ya on file here...dont worry, it'll be nothing Stormwind gets hold of if thats what you're worried about. My own personal reference." Sanrin moved past Seafour quickly to the barracks, heading to his makeshift office in hopes of quickly making up the proper paperwork before attempting to find any legitimate copies.

Seafour
12-07-2007, 12:19 PM
Seafour follows Sanrin through the yard, stepping over blocks of stone and piles of wood. A look around proved Sanrin right, as a lot more was to be done here than what Seafour had originally thought.
"Profession wise, I'm not sure how I can be of exact service in these circumstances" Seafour gestured to the construction efforts around him. " Although I do have a decent understanding of the uses of herbs, and where to find such, it may be that I can procure stores for the Tavern and if you so choose to build one, an Infirmary."
" However, there lies within my nature, a form with the strength of two men , and I am sure that can be of use." He laughs, remembering work in the past, working in Eastvale Logging Camp, pulling logs to the river for transport.
" As of my past, I would prefer to retain my privacy, as there are those who i fear would persecute me, but rest assured, there is no bounty for my head, and I am not outlaw."
adding under his breath "yet".

Sanrin
12-07-2007, 12:46 PM
Sanrin pauses with a thought before entering the barracks, letting a dramatic sigh leave his lips before turning to looks back to Seafour with a conspiratorial glare.

"Hm...well. I'll take your word on that for now...though I cant have anyone endangerin the place. First sign of trouble and i'll set Bobby loose on ya!" he grinned, waving a hand over to the quarters before him. "You'll be sleepin here, though I'll warn you the beds arent the best. Maybe with luck we'll get some nicer things when that Tom character decides to stop wasting his money on veggie patches."

Sanrin laughed brightly stepping down to guide Seafour around the rest of the Hold while engaging in cheerful banter. It was a fact Sanrin himself had little to do here aside keep others busy and keep the few wandering undead far from their location, though more able bodied hands would mean the work would move much faster then first estimated. Perhaps this outpost wasn't so bad after all.

This world's spirits were quiet.

She longed for the comfort of home and the company of those she called family. But they were lost or dead, and the fight continues without them. These new allies had not earned her trust, but she was willing to work with them. What choice did she have?

She rode a dwarven ram up the muddy pathway. Not as smooth a ride as an elekk, but what it lacked in comfort it made up for in agility and compliance. Her bones ached, but at her age, that was normal.

She approached the Hold with a critical eye. The walls seemed to have been built with more speed than care, but even still they seemed solid enough. These Alliance seemed to value their walls. Walls can be brought down. She brushed the memory off her face and dismounted graceful beyond her years.

She translated the sign, and nodded. Work was all that kept her alive. Work, and learning. She should not need to learn, she should be sewing grand tonikays for her grandchildren and singing the songs of the elements beside a warmed furnace stone. But that is not her fate. So she learned from this world, and from it's people.

The gate was ajar. She pulled the ram through and gazed around at the flurry of activity. Work. She would be needed here. And she hoped to learn much from the spirits in the land below that they named "Plaguelands".
