List some nicknames we can use for the forum ranks:
ie:
1-10 posts = war orphan
11-20 posts = peaceflower picker
21-30 posts = ooze...it's what's for dessert!
31-40 posts = blackmouth bait
41-50 posts = murlock breath
etc etc

Those seem fine by name. You just might want to space them out more by numbers.
Maybe:
1-100 posts = war orphan
101-200 posts = peaceflower picker
201-300 posts = ooze...it's what's for dessert!
301-400 posts = blackmouth bait
401+ = posts = murlock breath
More or less, depending on how active you feel you can make this forum.

Here's my take...
Since we're an RP/PVP server, the ranks will have an "RP" title and a "PVP" title seperated by a slash (/). You'll see what I mean
1-45 posts - Innitiate / n00bsauce
46-100 posts - Member / H4x0r
101-200 posts - Champion / d00d
201 - 999 posts - Commander / l337 d00d
1000+ posts - Warlord / 3l37157 JERK

Skip the leetspeak half though. We're not a straight PvP server - that's the point. We're out to kill each other, but to do it with some style and a reason. I say we celebrate that fact and play on the RP half of it.
RP with Attitude, so to speak.

We need more suggestions as far as ranks go!
I know there's somebody out there that can come up with some creative names

201-500 : Etherlegionairre
500-1000 : Burning Commander

I like it. We could also go with something along the lines of Azerothian Forum Trolls
1-50 : Axethrower
51-100 : Hunter
101-200 : Bloodletter
201-500 : Berserker
500-1000 : Hak'kar's Own

good ideas :) keep them coming.
just fyi.. I plan on having about 20 different ranks, so it doesn't have to stop at 5 ;)

Well it should be something that goes for both factions if possible maybe.
Going somewhat along the lines of what fallacy wrote
1-10Initiate
11-20Member
21-30Lieutenant
31-40Commander
41-50Legionnaire
51-75General
76-100Demonspawn
101-150Demon
151-200Burning Commander
201-300Dreadlord
301-400Arch-Demon
401-500Demi-God
500+God
Demonspawn and demon might go further down in rank maybe, the way its organized in my mind is initiate through general is a mortal (orc human troll etc) and demons are generally more powerful so...yeah

I like Moolberry's ....
Of course, you could expand it a little and use the negative ranks as well...
But of course, having post count 1-10 starting as "Hated" might scare people off 8O

I like Moolberry's "faction inspired" ranks.
I agree that having Hated might scare people off, on the other hand it might inspire them to post more to get away from being hated.

Faction is cool, although it wouldnt be able to get more and more ranks as easily as other stuff

We could do faction for non-horde/alliance groups:
1-10: Neutral with Ratchet
11-20: Friendly with Ratchet
21-30: Honored with Rachet
31-40: Revered with Ratchet
41-50: Exalted with Ratchet
51-60: Neutral with Gadgetzan
....
...
101-110: Neutral with Everlook
...
...
..
151-160: Neutral with Argent Dawn
...
..
..
201-210: Neutral with Timbermaw Furlborgs
...
...
..
301-310: Neutral with Thorium Brotherhood
...
..
etc

Why so many ranks? I think that overcomplicates things. With that many ranks, I would never know what meant what and would have to refer to a chart . I recommend keeping it simple, and making the upper ranks difficult to obtain so that it reflects true prestige (or a propensity for trolling and baiting)

For the Neverwinter Nights Persistent World that I still maintain the website for, I did a total of 21 ranks - only 16 of which were attainable by posters.
We had a social status system in play based upon how much in tariffs you had paid if you acquired items and gold above a certain threshold.
So I based the ranks on that. See http://mithralhammer.com/phpbb2/ranking.php
After a year, I don't believe a player has broken 1000 posts yet. Just something to chew on :)

I played in a Play by Post RPG based on the court of King Louis IV with musketeers and fops, intrigue and espionage, duels and political maneuvering.
Players posted quite a bit in the... 2 years I was there. Only the main moderator broke 1K posts. I was working on 300 when I left if I remember correctly.

I had originally intended to RP this site as a goblin enterprise, so we could just go with the goblin factions
Ratchet = 10 posts
1-10 Ratchet Neutral
11-20 Ratchet Friendly
21-30 Ratchet Honored
31-40 Ratchet Revered
41-50 Ratchet Exalted
Booty Bay = 20 posts
51-70 BB Neutral
71-90 BB Friendly
91-110 BB Honored
111-130 BB Revered
131-150 BB Exalted
Gadgetzan = 40 posts
151-190 Gadgetzan Neutral
191-230 Gadgetzan Friendly
231-270 Gadgetzan Honored
271-310 Gadgetzan Revered
311-350 Gadgetzan Exalted
Everlook = 80 posts
351-430 Everlook Neutral
431-510 Everlook Friendly
511-590 Everlook Honored
591-670 Everlook Revered
671-750 Everlook Exalted
Anyone with > 750 posts gets hit with the Goblin transmogrofier and turns into one :P

Meh, I really don't like having so many ranks, it'd be hard to keep track of who's higher than who. On most forums I've been on, it's never been more than ten, and it seemed to seperate the level of activity pretty well.

OK, last call.
just straight 5 steps?
neutral -> friendly -> honored -> revered -> exalted

I'd vote straight 5 steps. If you really want more, do the 5 faction steps, then add in Exalted or whatever the top one is with each of the Goblin Cities, then your transmogrified into a goblin.. for a total of 10 steps.
