View Full Version : Six wasted months... (new PvP gear)

So I reroll alliance and join RSA to PvP. Unfortunatly:

A) the pvp gear kinda sucked for a warlock
B) turns out RSA didn't PvP

Now don't get me wrong, I had a lot of fun with RSA, but now with the new PvP gear comming out I'm ticked. All that time spend getting gear that I want to PvP with and now they come out with gear even better than it. I have 6/8 nemesis and it'll all be replaced by the pvp gear (assuming I grind for it).

I know some of you are saying: "6/8 nemesis, nice problem to have." Not trying to say I'm not glad I have that stuff, but with the hours I spent in boring instances aquiring that I could have been Grand Marshal two times over. 8O

Anyway, didn't want this to be a rant so much as a "Hey, have you guys seen the new gear?" It's pretty sick stuff. The blue pvp set is around the quality of MC and the purple is on par with BWL. It's a big day for those of us who prefer the mindless flag fighting over the mindless npc killing.

My pally just hit 60 and due to his build (+int and + healing heavy) I thought I was going to have to grind him through MC just to find gear that fit my build and to be competitive, but now I can just PvP, which I was gonna do anyway! O.K., I guess I'm actually excited. :D

Anyway, just wondering what some of your thoughts are on it. I'm sure many of you don't care, but here's a chance for people who don't have huge raiding guilds to be able to aquire at least MC quality gear with a lot less effort and a lot less people. :)

Who is your Pally, Castor? And how in God's name can you hit 60 so fast with so many characters?!?!

ZOMG Castor is a bot!!! And here I thought Barke was the only one!!!!

By the way, Castor, it does sound a bit exciting. I've been really lazy on getting uber gear, and maybe this will be incentive for me to get off my butt and do something other than just Emo-RP. hehe.

He's actually RP'd with you a couple times randomly. Not sure if you remember him or not. His name is Geoff. This is the first time I've mentioned him publicly.

He started as a 10-19 wsg twinker but then I ran into Korrupshun and a bunch of other newly rerolled hordelings in that bracket. They had started "Enlightened Horde" and after playing with Geoff and Polluxx's lvl 19 alt (and knowing Castor and Polluxx from 60's bg's) they invited us to their guild. At that time I decided to grind him up to 60 too. O.o

Just hit 60 this past weekend but that makes 3 60's on TN:

1) Castor, 60 Tauren Warrior (deleted)
2) Castor, 60 Gnome Warlock (melting face in a BG near you!)
3) Geoff, 60 Pally (healbot supreme)

What can I say? I actually enjoy leveling up. It gives me goals to achieve. I don't see myself leveling up any other toons anytime soon, but I also thought Castor would be my last toon ever. Just going to play to have fun, so if I get bored of these guys and want to try another then I'll roll someone else I guess.

I just don't see myself getting bored anytime soon.

eh, well...I use to pvp quite a bit. Got up to rank 6, which isn't all that much, I know, but since I fall somewhere between casual and hard-core in the time department, it was a lot of time spent in BG's.

I think if I had rolled Alliance, I'd be more into PVP, but sitting around for an hour waiting for a que just to get in with a mixture of idiots/noobs who didn't know what to do and pvp-grinders who refused to raid up and were just there for the honor kills and not the win just really soured me on the whole thing.

Right now I'm 7/8 tier 1, and over the next few months I'll slowly gear up tier 2 unless something crazy happens to my guild.

Although there is a "awww..dammit, if I'd known that *maybe* I'd have stuck with the pvp grinding. But then I think about how much I hate grinding them, and I'm happy to let someone else who spend more time in game have better junk than me. After all, it's just pixels and database variables in the end :P

I remember we talked in Ironforge for like a half hour one day...Had no idea it was you!

A lot of the honor farmers seem to be in the same bgs as me...annoying actually. I had Kalu explain to me one day why he didn't group in bgs and while I understood it, I still don't like it. I'll be glad when grouping is automagic.

Link for the new pvp gear? I've seen the new raid sets but not pvp...

Yep, Geoff is me

***

Part of the reason I left horde was because I could see there were a lot more pvpers there and knew the queue times would be very long. May as well reroll before I get too attached to my toon.

As for a link, the WoW website is down for the maintenance. It was the first news item on the official website yesterday. When maintenance is done I'll try to link it, but otherwise you can just go there when it's functioning. :)

ARRGGG GEOFF YOU HEAL TO MUCH! hehe

Im forced to kill you because all the other Horde inside WSG wont kill you and you heal everyone!

Heh, Im shadowspeak, you've probly seen me on WSG a few times with my big anathema. Nice healing though, better than I could no no doubt.

Thanks for the compliment. All I do in bg's is heal so for someone to say I do it well makes me feel good. :D

I'm going to be going for some decent rank with Geoff so you'll be seeing a lot more of them heals. :P

And don't feel bad if I run away from you, but I have no dps. I just run and try to find our flag carrier so I can heal him. Don't have time for anyone else.

Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Hey, there's new gear! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit!

Eh, maybe it's not that bad.

:) j/k, Castor

Yeah, I've met Geoff before. Actually, I remembered him as the autograph seeker in a joke on Mayday. Poor Mayday. Hehe

I actually hope to get Knight-Lt today after grinding WSG last weekend. I'm debating at this point to take some time off from the PVP grind to level an alt or *gasp* Xeran: 58 for two weeks and counting. My overall goal is probably just going to be Knight-Captain which should be pretty doable without growing to hate the game and the grind. At KC, you should be able to get better gloves, boots, chest and leggings.

Castor: Hehe. Glad to see ya let the Geoff secret outta the bag. I kept it quiet for ya. Grooda is 58 now and will be coming to drain you of your mana shortly.

Yep. I'm super-happy with these changes. It makes all the work I've done with Grooda worthwhile. Heck, my alt will be geared almost twice as well as my main.

I think I'm at least going to try to hit 59 this weekend. I've got a whole level (at least) of rest state, so I think I can do it.

The other day, I got jumped by an orc warrior in the WPL. Normally, I own warriors any day of the week, but I never saw the priest hiding behind a rock outcropping. The warrior is almost dead, when all of a sudden his health shoots back up, and I go to heal myself, and have zero mana!!!! Priests are EEEEVVVVIIILLLL! hehe.

Oh, and I died. hehe.

I took a good week or so off from playing Geoff and when I came back I dinged 58 and had the entire level of double experience. I had polluxx AOE grind me and I was getting about 80,000 exp/hour. I've never grinded quite like that, it was insane. Got my level in about 2.5 hours, then grinded for another hour or so to burn off the rest of my double. Good times.

Castor and Polluxx had some nice AoE grinding from 1-60 but we played so much we never had more than 5-10% double xp, hehe.

Personally I agree with Castor on this for the most part. But I have lost interest in Bg's myself for most of the same reasons as others. Always a pug bg, hideous waits, farmers who only want kills, little to no organization or drive to win.

I am a laid back guy most of the time but when I know I am with a group of people that have a fair chance of winning something and they just dont give a damn to try it makes me angry. Why que if you dont want to compete or win?

QFT. Every bg I afk'd out of (except recently when my interface was bugged) was because it seemed like there were only a couple people in it trying to win. It gets frustrating to go into an AV and see nitwits dueling in the tunnel when the Horde just finished capping Stonehearth. The match isn't over. It's not even close to over. But look at all the Alliance quitters already. *sigh* Every so often, I'll end up with a good crew. As long as they're trying, I don't care if I win or lose. I fought beside Blacktoe and his group in WSG this past weekend. Didn't win a single match, but what a lot of fun it was. Great group, worthy adversaries and a couple of close ones. We joked around on their vent and had a blast.

I'm looking forward to hitting Knight-Captain so I can stop the grind and just BG for fun.

I had noooo idea you were Geoff. I was so stunned by this revelation, I had to create an account just to post.

You are the sole reason I know how to beat Palladins now. I fought you so many times in so many levels, I finally figured out the best way to beat a palladin is to just run away.

Hehe. Glad you let the secret out. I had seen you around the forums all the time but never got to play against Castor...or so I thought...

Hehe. Glad you let the secret out. I had seen you around the forums all the time but never got to play against Castor...or so I thought...

I remember playing you in the 10-19's. You were part of the reason Tyrone (NE warrior, played by Polluxx) and I decided to twink out. There were a lot of twinkers down there, especially rogues and shamans and it was a pain. I think you were one of the fiery enchanted rogues, but either way I do remember you being a pain back then. You were one of the reasons I figured out how to deal with rogues: HoJ, run away and keep healing!

You may not remember Tyrone from way back then. Polluxx retired him around level 27 and decided to focus on his Rogue. You probably remember her though: Lilmissy.

He was going to go for 14 with her but then the mage changes came out and he went back to Polluxx. Now he's quit but may come back. Who knows with him? hehe. He's actually talking about wanting to play around with Castor (he's always been a fan of the lock and his first 60 was a lock) and Geoff. He sees me play Geo and he wants to hop on the invincible healbot band wagon. :P

If either one of those two get rank 14 you'll know why.

That couldn't have been me with the fiery enchants! I didn't even really understand enchants until I was in my twenties, and I don't even think I got any until the 30's, and it was +3 damage...was all I could afford. Boy have I learned a lot about the game since then (my first toon).

OMG and LilMissy too! You two crack me up. All this time I was looking for Castor and Pollux from RunTMC, I was actually playing LilMissy and Geoff. Too damn funny.

edit: BTW - you two both are skilled enough to have made me cuss a few times. :)

Castor
05-23-2006, 06:19 PM
For being your first toon you're pretty skilled. There were a few rogues who always seemed to give me trouble and you were one of them. Most of them were highly twinked in the 10's and 20's, couldn't remember whether you were one of them or not. The fact that you weren't twinked out just shows that you had some skills.

While were talking twinks/alts here, I might as well join in

Sevarith was a BEAST at 20-29 (my best game had 39 killing blows and 0 deaths)

Thrissia did so-so, she didnt have many killing blows but she NEVER died, and she allways was hated because of her fear and seduce combo.

Shadowspeak, well, I had allready played a priest up to 50 before hand (that account got hacked) so I had experiance... it was my first toon and I was not twinked but I had pretty decent equipment.

I look forward to playing my other alts, soon my other warrior Mahima will be bringing her mace down on some nelf heads :D

And look for me inside BG's with Geoff, I'll be sure to give you a /wave as I silence you. oh, and heal yourself more often, its to easy with you concentrating on the flag carrier!

Edit: and I cant leave out my deleted rogue Ix. he was allright but I just got bored of the class.

Ok back to topic now that we've gotten the accolades out of the way (thanks!). I had a thread on this in the TN forums also, I like my rogue upgrades on the PVP blues, once I figured it all out.

What rank is Castor now? IE: How much work do you have to get that gear? Geoff should be pretty high with all the PVP'ing you did with EH.

I'm hovering 25% into rank 9 right now, I doubt I moved at all this week...didn't have a lot of time to devote to PVP and the 50's bracket just sucked all week so I leveled late friday night. But I did enough so that I wouldn't slip backwards (I hope). I figure the patch will be out in the next week or two and then I will re-buy my rank 7 and 8 gear and start pushing for 10 and 11 for my fast horsey. I wish they would just make the stats change on the current gear I own cause of lost enchants, but I don't think that's the case.

Castor
05-23-2006, 07:33 PM
Funny thing: Geoff and Castor are both at about 75% into rank 8. Castor has been as high as 9, but then I stopped pvping with him as much and he's just kind of hovered around 8-9. Never bothered with 10 because I had the nemesis skull cap and felheart shoulders by the time I got to 9.

Geoff's been hovering at 8 for a couple weeks. I'm going to be doing WSG and AV with him and AB with Castor (need the rep).

I'm in no hurry for the gear though. I'll get Geoff the blue pvp set within the next few weeks, then time permitting I may push for the purple with him.

There's mixed feelings on the new gear. It's very good, but Blizzard seems to be screwing people over who used to have the rank but dropped. They've also pissed off a lot of people who PvE a lot. I just like how you now have a choice between PvP and PvE for the same gear. Now they just need to add some PvP reward trinkets! :D

Castor: One of the only Alliance I can think of that uses emotes other than /spit /laugh and /no in BGs.

I remember an AB a LONG time ago where he was getting chased around by like 4 warriors and just /cried at them. Cracked me up.

Speaking of the new PvP gear, I'm just further motivated to make the push for rank 14 now like I've always wanted to. I'll just have to say goodbye to those little luxuries like sleeping, eating, and showering... *sigh*

:) j/k Pollux ... j/k Lovely

I'll be leveling out of the 50s bracket as fast as I can. This past week, the 50s BGs have been dead so looks like it's time to move up. As for the armor, I'm not sure what I'll do. I got Knight-Lt last night. Knight-Cpt is next and seems relatively easy to get to. Maybe I'll try to camp there a bit until the new armor shows up.

Castor

If you level up you'll get constant games. The horde are more skilled and better geared but if you get into a good group you can string together some nice wins.

Well thanks, I'm liking these forums already! Lot less drama...i'm sure you all know what I mean.

I blame the 50's bracket for me only moving 10% in rank this past week. At least it wasn't 10% backwards! I spent the first part of the week waiting and waiting for bg's to pop...and waiting. Finally, on Friday night when we were hardly getting any pops (on Warsong Weekend even!), I finally decided to level. I had a busy weekend (Davinci Code, Barbeque, and a golf Tournament), so I didn't get to PVP much, but when i did, it was epic!

The 60's bracket is the best by far, 5 warsongs at once? WTH? I had never seen that before. It's just wierd playing against Rank 12 and 13's. I see them and run, I can do a lot of damage in a short amount of time, but when i come across folks like that, I barely make a dent.

5 minute queues are awesome!

5 minute queues are awesome!

Alliance queues are instant. Now that's awsome!

The queue times were deflated due to the fact that it was WSG weekend. People come out of the woodwork that week for some reason. I do think the horde queue times will be shorter going forward then the had been before the new PvP gear was announced, though I still think 45 minutes - 1 hour will still be the norm.

But who knows? This could be the death of raiding guilds as we know them. And in my opinion, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

***

I've had an account on these forums for a month or so now and wasn't paying much attention to it. Just in the last few days I've found myself more interested in the posts here than on the TN forums. I can only take so much of the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over again.

The nice thing about these forums is you can still have the "I pwn joo" threads if you want, but they have their own section to keep them away from the legitimate WoW posts.

For people like me who play to PvP, raiding is a waste of time. I don't mind it occasionally but I prefer the other. There will still be raiding guilds but I think you'll see the numbers diminish. There's many people who only raid to be competitive in PvP. Now they can PvP to be competitive in PvP. It makes a big difference to the PvP community.

Plus, I can pvp whenever I want to as opposed to pveing when my guild leader tells me to.

To each her own. :)

Aye. I've been raiding as a warrior on another server for a while. People would tell me I need to raid to get better gear for PvP. At least for warriors, this was never true (that I know of). The PvP gear was good for PvP, the PvE gear was good for PvE (although I did enjoy running around in my meat shield suit - I'd be a B$%## to kill but I'd be lucky to kill a tram rat). Now it seems that the PvP sets for all classes has been made better for PvP. Works for me. They don't call it "Molten Bore" for nothing. The first time through, it's neat and the first time you stomp a boss down, its neat, but when you've killed Molten Giant 7 for the 1000th time ... while you're watching TV ... and thinking about what to make for lunch the next day, it gets really really really old really fast.

Glad you're liking it here, Jezagore. We are all insane and loving it. Beats being normal.

There's some good pvp warrior gear but if you're specced as a tank your guild probably won't let you have it.

I wish they had more weapons from PvP. I have to get rank 14 just for a weapon? Granted they're pretty much the best weapons in the game but why not more weapons? Maybe rank 10 or something, have some blue weapons.

I suppose that's why they have the BG rewards. :?
