From the WoW customer service forums:

Be certain that you ask the person to cease their inappropriate actions before contacting the Game Master Department, however, as we shall only take action if they continue their behaviour after having been asked to stop by other players.

I wonder how many complaints (non-name related) the gms are unable to act on due to the players reporting the incident not asking the griefers to stop first.

Please pass this info along, I would hate to see rp not being enforced because rp-ers aren't aware of this.

Oh, and on a side note, I think it is perfectly fair that we (the rp community) should have to ask someone to stop breaking the policies before we report them. What do you guys think?

I believe this is something that would help, both in game as well as in the boards.

If anything, by you asking them to stop - it may even give them more rope to hang themselves with.

Abric: {{ Hey, bro. Could you please take that conversation in private? /say and other assigned channels are for roleplaying only. }}
Non-RPer: STFU rp and do not tell me how 2 play.

I always ask them politely to stop before reporting them. Mainly because I'd much rather report them for the inevitable disrespect and bad language that follows in addition to the initial offence.

I'm a bastard that way.

How do you report someone in game? I've only done it once, and I clicked the little red ? and then typed in everything that happened. Is that the correct way? I couldn't seem to copy & paste from the chat window, which would have been easier.

Yup, that's the correct way. I always like to give an approximate server time and what channel the offense occured in (/s /y etc.)

And I try to be nice, because any customer service position sucks monkey balls.

Yeah I usually give as accurate info as I can, if you report a lot get the addon that timestamps all of the messages, I remember making reports saying "at 1:32:15 PM...." and it was trustworthy times :)

QFT! It's kind of like kiting them into a ban. hehe. It always works too.
