((The first of several entries I will be making explaining the disappearance and return of one Aelendil Silversong. Contrary to popular belief, he's not dead, but that isn't necessarily far from the truth. Anyway, here's my shot at a return to RP.))
From the experiment log of Master Apothecary Faranell, written in coded Gutterspeak
Experiment Number: 687
Log #: 1
The Deathguard Linnea brought in a new subject today, a young Night Elf male on the brink of death. Subject would have been left for carrion had he not slain one of the scouts. Even in an apparent comatose state, he was able to overwhelm the scout with a psychic assault, though this apparently exhausted the last of his resources. Such a strong-willed subject would be suitable for the Society's most recent tests.
The subject was marked with various lacerations, though he is healing at a miraculous rate. Physical assessment shows fitness and a likelihood to survive prolongued testing. However, judging by his abilities, the garments he wore and the ritual staff he posessed, the elf is a priest and not a warrior.
Most curious of all, the elf bears a strange marking on his forehead, a ritualistic tattoo of some sort in the shape of the full moon. I have sent a request for information as to the nature of this sigil. Upon testing, it proved magical in nature and produced a bright glow that discomforted any Forsaken within sight of it.
The subject is to be injected with serum #13 and observed for results. Should it prove effective, I believe we will have a suitable servant of Sylvanas on our hands.

Experiment: 687
Log #: 2
Subject 687 has responded most strangely to the introduction of the newest strain of the virus. The elf's body has rejected the virus and all tissue still tests as living tissue. However, the mark upon the subject's forehead has undergone a change. It has taken on an ashen, dark hue, a stark contrast to the lustrous silver tone it once was. As well, it no longer repels any Forsaken who get too close when magically stimulated. On the contrary, it seems to attract any Forsaken within a thirty meter radius, lulling them into a state of what could aptly be described as hypnosis. Even through substantial mental shielding, I can still feel the pull of the mark.
The subject is to be exposed to an altered strain of #13, variant B, and observed for results. In the meanwhile, I have had two guards posted at his cell, both adept at magical and mental shielding. The subject has yet to regain conciousness, but any Forsaken who spend extended periods of time around the subject report a feeling of being watched, as well as an overwhelming sense of hostile intent directed toward them. I am considering having the warlocks shield his cell more thoroughly, perhaps putting some runes upon the subject as well.
Time will tell.

Experiment: 687
Log #: 3
The elf opened his eyes today, though he still seems to be in a state of unconciousness. His pupils react neither to a light stimulus nor pain. One of the guards took the liberty of blindfolding the subject, complaining of a pronounced sense of nausea and disorientation whenever he met the elf's eyes. I believe this new development can be attributed to the virus, but as such there have been no other developments.
I let Carendin Halgar and several of his apprentices conduct an arcane analysis of the subject today. They found that there was nothing demonic in nature about the marking upon the subject's forehead, but requested permission to tattoo fel markings upon the chest and shoulders of the subject as arcane inhibitors. I gave them permission and they sacrificed a human child for the necessary blood and residual nether energy required to bind the runes to the elf's spirit. Carendin confided in me the great potential power latent in the body and mind of this elf and requested to be more active in the project. In the interest of creating something useful, and more importantly, controllable, for our Queen, I allowed it.
The subject is to be tested for pain threshholds in the interest of lowering the elf's defensive immunities. With any luck, the virus will set in and we won't have an inanimate corpse on our hands.

((Actually, that would be wonderful. I'd love to get some cross faction involvement going so far as this goes and it'd be a nice basis for RP. I've been using NPCs in this writing thus far because that's all I've got, so it'd be great having some players for RP sake. I'll definitely let ya know. Once I have this told, there'll be much to develop on.))

Subject: 687
Log #: 4
The subject awoke today, screaming in the elven tongue. Two words were repeated frequently; Rhowen and Elune. The latter is recognizable and I can easily attribute it to some plea of faith, but the former is not familiar.
The subject was able to break free from his bonds and overwhelm both his guards and a voidwalker, using a combination of martial and mental techniques. I was forced to subdue the subject myself, battering him into submission and then placing him under stronger guard, both mundane and magical.
It is of interest to note that during the brief conflict, the subject's blindfold came undone. The subject's eyecolor, upon entry, had been blue. Now, his pupils are a milky white, not unsimilar to the eyes of many Forsaken. I do not believe this denotes blindness, but I do not believe it would matter in any case. The subject's mental abilities would suitably enable him to act without a handicap. I admit, meeting those eyes was decidedly unsettling and nearly weakened my concentration in the midst of the fray.
The subject was reblindfolded and is to be exposed to a stronger strain of the virus. As well, I am to going to let Carendin conduct an experiment concerning demonic augmentation, in the interest of further suplimenting the abilities of subject 687. The guards on his cell have been doubled and I am sending agents to do research on the priesthood of Elune and this "Rhowen" figure.

Several pages are missing from the log at this point, torn roughly from the tome itself. Only a minor scrawling of 'classified' precedes the next entry.
Subject: 687
Log #: 6
Subject 687, the former mercenary captain Aelendil Silversong (confirmed by intelligence as of this date), underwent a combat test today. The subject was put in a ring under heavy surveilance and faced off against several combatants, among them a succubus, a doomguard, and a human male.
Against the first two oponents, the subject perfomed with exceptional skill. The dispatch of the demons seemed effortless, something that can be attributed both to the enhancing nature of the runes upon the subject's body and the subject's mental abilities alone. The subject seemed to take particular pleasure in draining the lifeforce from the succubus, which should come of no surprise considering the pain threshold tests performed previously (detailed in log #5).
The subject's responses concerning the human male, a mage, were curious. The elf spent some time evading the human's initial attacks, though he spoke not a word. When wounded, the subject responded with an efficient draining of the human's spirit, though he otherwise left the human unharmed. We were forced to remind the subject of the nature of the test, his life or that of his opponent, before he inevitably severed the spinal cord of the subject with a mind blast.
One of the onlooking guards goaded the subject in jest, asking if the subject would like to "Say a prayer for the fallen." The subject responded by effectively rendering said guard unconcious, something that should have been effectively prevented by the wards placed upon the combat ring. The subject was punished as is due.
He still refuses to so much as wince under pain stimuli. As well, virus #14 has failed to produce any visible effects, beyond the disappearance of the mark upon the subject's forehead.
Carendin continues to exhibit great interest in the continuation of this project, encouraging the subject's violent tendencies and his appetite for the minor magics Carendin has taken to teaching him, under heavy surveilance and shielding. The subject's upper body is now completely covered in ritual tattoos, augmenting and supplementing both his natural abilities and our own neural inhibitors.
I fear it will not be enough. I shall request the termination of this project if subject 687 proves too much of a liability. I do not think Sylvanas will be pleased.

Subject: 687
Log #: 7
Carendin and his apprentices have requested permission to be removed from the project. This was granted on the basis of repeated complaints of nausea and the refusal of their demonic servants to even go within twenty feet of the subject. Permission was granted.
The subject is showing pronounced signs of aggression and cruelty, something that I would normally encourage if it were something we were able to control. On the rare occasions that we let him out of containment, we have to hold him under heavy guard and shielding, lest another accident occur. After he nearly killed the Troll ambassador, Sylvanas gave me strict orders to keep him under control.
The virus still has not set in, at least not in the traditional sense. The subject is still among the living, but there have been several side effects. For one, the subject does not respond to any pain stimuli in the traditional sense. His wounds heal at a miraculous rate, but he seems to struggle with the simplest of healing spells that most priests are able to grasp. He no longer prays or hardly moves from the center of his cell, levitating about a foot off the ground. He has taken the liberty of adding more sigils to his body, using a scalpel he must have obtained through some means of telekinesis. He generally remains blindfolded, but when he does remove the cloth, Forsaken within thirty meters experience pronounced hallucinogetic effects and panic. He rarely speaks, though he has requested more of Carendin's tomes, a request that I have refused. I fear he is dangerous enough.
I shall give him three more days. If we cannot find a means to control the elf, I will have him killed.
If we can, that is.

Several pages are missing from the tome at this point, though it's almost unnoticeable, removed as they are with such precision. There remains only one page, written in a frantic scribble.
Experiment : 687
Log #: 11
The subject has escaped.
He simply melted through the walls of his cell like they were nothing, leaking through the cracks like a shadow. Once free, he slaughtered half of my staff. We'll be cleaning the blood up for weeks.
He left me for last. I threw everything I had against him, attempted to activate any of the sigils of compulsion on his body, but nothing elicited a response nor even seemed to make a dent in his defenses. He simply smiled, a chilling smile that I'll not soon forget. Floating toward me, he simply lifted me from the ground and made me look him in the eyes. That is when he spoke to me, his voice like daggers in my brain.
"You have broken me, dead one. And in breaking me, I have found the freedom I sought. It is a bitter comfort for you have created a monster of me."
He paused then, chuckled darkly.
"You call yourself Forsaken? You know nothing of such things. I am without a god and without a soul. I am neither light, nor shadow. I am forsaken. I am what you will never understand."
Everything went dark at that moment, except for those luminous eyes, pale as the moon, pale as a corpse.
"I was once the carrier of a great burden, a weapon. Now I am the weapon. Know that you are not safe, that no one is, so long as I walk this plane."
I could see nothing by then, but I knew he was smiling.
"Fear he who walks the Grey, a truly forsaken soul, for he knows nothing of limits and knows nothing of mercy."
And with that, he was gone.
I argued against it, but Sylvanas wishes to have scouts posted on Subject 687's whereabouts at all times. I have no doubt they'll end up destroyed. As of today, I consider this project ended, but we would do well to keep an eye out for this Aelendil Silversong.
He is not one we should treat lightly.
I fear we have created something far worse than our own nature, something incapable of compassion, frighteningly efficient at killing. He is neither light nor shadow, priest nor warlock, elf nor demon, living nor dead. He is something far worse.
The dark gods help us all.
