View Full Version : Trap!

Azghar coughed a bit, his eyes still a bit fuzzy. The fall had knocked the wind out of him, as he was now at the bottom of a pit dug by (who he assumed to be) natives of Stranglethorn Vale. He cursed himself, a bit ashamed at the fact that he did not notice the hidden trap. Things began to come into focus. He saw a raised spear, perhaps there were more, but he only needed one to make the decision to protect himself. In an instant, a huge, high-tech rifle was in his hands. He fired a shot at one of his ambushers, and a troll fell forward with a death cry into the pit, flailing his limbs until he hit the ground. Two arrows and a spear came towards him, one arrow narrowly dodged and the other bouncing harmlessly off of his shoulder guard. The spear hit his leg, but the inferior weapon technology could not penetrate the thick area covering his knee. Azghar dropped his gun, swinging a shield off of his back. He crouched in the corner and held it over his head to block the predicted bombardement.

Drinn had been out prospecting for the day and was just to make her way back to camp; Now, The Elf remained crouched as she peered through the fanned brush of the Vale. Three Trolls stood, exchanging excitedly among each other. One with a partially broken tusk leaned over a hole in the ground, his spear pulled over his shoulder.

*BANG*

The resounding noise tore through the trees, the birds in the surrounding area leaving their perches. There was one less hunter to the group.

Drinn couldn't help her curiosity as she watched the two natives that were left as they snarled and cursed in their native tongue, gripping their weapons. Their focus nothing less then aggressive, revengeful. She had no clue what they were so intently focused on but it certainly seemed worth a look - if nothing else, it would be more entertaining then prospecting gems. It looked like this afternoon was starting to pick up!

The Elfs hand slipped deftly into her pocket and wrapped absently around one of the large pieces of mithril she had found on her excavation as one of the aggressors pulled back on the string of his bow with a three fingered hand and took aim.

*THHNNK*

The piece of ore connected bluntly with the back of the Trolls skull. Dazed and addled, he teetered and fell forward.

Azghar blinked, looking up to see another troll falling down to him. Had he tripped? The attacker slammed into his shield, and they both sprawled out onto the ground. Without a moments hesitation, Azghar slammed the sharp bottom of his shield into the trolls neck. It gurgled and gulped, and blood sprayed out. He leaned his weight into the troll then rolled over to the other side of the hole, again blocking any incoming attacks from above. With his free hand, he picked up the primitive spear and adjusted his grip, waiting for the next, possibly not last, attacker to move into sight.

The remaining Troll spun around wildly, his spear held in front of him. His eyes shifting from each bush to each tree looking for the rest of the Orcs party, his back turned towards to fanned brush where Drinn wait.

Without hesitation the Sin'dorei lept forward and sprung herself onto the Trolls back.

The hunter snarled and jerked at the sudden onslaught and jerked from side to side, trying to throw off his attacker. The smaller Elf merely hooked a leg around his waist to steady herself and pulled a forearm roughly against his throat. She ignored his clawing, panicked hands as they reached back, his windpipe flattening.

The Troll's eyes bulged as he fought for breath, thrashing now with nothing more than a primal response and sent them both over the edge of the dugout.

The orc heard the brawl, but knew not who the native was fighting. As he saw the pair fall, he held up his spear up and stood, flattening against the wall of the pit. As they hit the ground he adjusted his grip as to stab at anyone that might try to come at him, his helmet was half turned around by now, so he attempted to shake it back into place. He could barely see, so he waited for some movement.

Drinn held on tightly as they fell into the pit, never letting up on her grip.

The Troll flattened on the ground and gurgled, his tongue forced between his lips swollen and purple. Drinn squeezed harder.

One final, violent shudder tore through the hunter's body and he fell still underneath her. Jerking her choking forearm one way, and her opposite hand the other she finished with a quick snap and sat up.

Her eyes adjusted to the darkness and she made out the form the hunting party had been so excited about. The Orc took half a clumsy step forward, jerking his head to the side to reposition his helmet; his armor, it looked so familiar...

She was wrong, this day wasn't looking up at all. In fact, it just got worse.

Azghar made a snorting sound, it almost sounded like a gurgle. He burst into laughter, his chest heaving, lowing his spear down a bit. "Nice of you to..Help out!" Still laughing, he stood up straight, lowering his arms now, standing up to his full height. He was quite intimidating. The orc took a step towards Drinn, his one eye lighting up. He was confident, as always, but somewhat relieved. He regarded the elf as no threat.

Drinn jumped back, away from the lumbering Orc as he moved forward; picking up the Trolls discarded spear in both hands defensively. The worn leather of her fingerless gloves creaked. Wether he took her as a threat or not, she knew better then to take any chances with Azghar. His mood seemed to play so much into his interaction; Odd creature, especially for an Orc..

"So happy to oblige...", her tone was careful.

Azghar

"You can't hope to best me with that spear. Hmph." Azghar exhaled loudly, finished with his akward laughing. He dropped his shield. "So are you going to attack me or get out of here?" He held his spear casually, clearing his face of any emotion. He looked at her as if he was a statue, completely still, and his weight probably matched that of a statue with all of his armor.

Drinn allowed her glance to stray from the Orc to the dirt walls that supplied as their cage. The top was more then one of her own body lengths away. The poorly constructed walls of the ditch where dirt that looked like it would crumble under any real strain, void of any roots to climb or possible foot holes. She grimaced in a half defeated sort of way and re-gripped the spear absently.

With an almost thoughtful inflection, Drinn replied, "Given the circumstances, I'd prefer the latter.."

Azghar
10-03-2007, 07:46 AM
"Well. You sure as hell aren't getting out of here 'till I do." Azghar let himself slide against the back of the wall into a sitting position. He pulled a flask from his belt and took a large gulp from it.

Blinking, he picked up the piece of mithril that fell in with the first troll. "Unh?" He inspected it for a moment, then looked up at Drinn.

Drinn
10-03-2007, 04:56 PM
Unh", she mimicked his brutish inquiry. "Very articulate of you.."

Drinn padded over the hulking form of the Orc and plucked the piece of ore from his hand. She held it a moment, giving it another look over and decided that yes, it really was a good piece to hold onto before returning it to her pocket. Returning to the situation at hand she crossed her arms loosely with an annoyed look and glowered at him. Azghar was about as tall as she was even though he was sitting down. He remained complacent in his posture, his large armored shoulders slouching and took another swig from his flask.

"Boozing isn't going to get us out of this situation any faster, Mongrel", the elf sneered.

Azghar

He cleared his throat. "Don't speak to me in that tone." He began to rummage through his various bags. "You have any rope? Chain? Twine?" Azghar closed his bags, finding nothing useful, and looked up at her. "Anything will work. If we have to, we can make a rope out of your leather." He smirked.

Drinn

The elfs green eyes narrowed into slits as she physically recoiled, "Don't hold you breath."

She paced the small pace of the ditch in frustration as she pondered any possible means, her bound leather boots kicking at the loose dirt. Coming to the wall she stopped and kicked at the ground again, the dirt shifting and raising under the effect. She paused. Using the tip of her boot she kicked at the wall and some of it came loose much like the ground. She kicked again, harder this time, sinking some of her foot into the wall. Using her other foot now she kicked the wall a little higher.

Escape.

Drinn glances over her shoulder at the Orc as he remained seated before digging at the wall with her hands, the grim packing under her nails. She lifted her focus to the edge towering above her and dug her hands in deeper, her feet finding the previous dugouts and started her ascent.

Azghar

The orc jumped up to his feet, taking one huge step towards Drinn, and grabbed her arm. Azghar gripped her tightly and ripped her off of the wall, throwing her down to the ground. Squinting through the slit in his helmet, he spoke. "Not before me." He didn't hesitate to begin stripping off his thick plate armor, sliding off his heavy gauntlets first.

Drinn
10-05-2007, 10:21 PM
"Ooof", the elf gritted her teeth as the air was knocked out of her.

Drinn glared and her hands clenched in the soil. "Didn't they ever tell you ladies first?"
The elf grabbed at the dirt and threw it at Azghar, aiming for his eyes. It wasn't the smartest move given their confinement but she didn't care. Hell, he already beat her with a burning log, tied her to a giant lizard and tried to eat her. How worse could it possibly get?
She stood up and dusted herself off.

"You'll never hold."

Azghar
10-05-2007, 10:31 PM
However the dirt that made it through his visor may have affected him, he didn't show it. He dropped his gloves, and began to unstrap his weapons and shield. "If you're getting out of here, so am I."

Azghar set his weapons on the ground in a pile, and began working himself out of his chestpiece.

"Maybe I'll just leave you down here and get out myself. Alert the locals of your presence?"

Drinn
10-05-2007, 10:41 PM
"Before or after they stick you in a ditch and start throwing spears at you?", Drinn raised both eyebrows.

"Oh wait, that already happened...", her voice carried her typical soft undertones of complacency and sarcasm. "You're welcome .. by.. the..way". She folded her arms and watched him pull his armor off clumsily with an amused look, one side of her mouth raised slightly higher then the other.

"You're not going to get up more then half way. You're too heavy. Face it Orc, you need me to get out of here."

Azghar
10-05-2007, 11:00 PM
"Heh. Don't go throwing around the word 'Orc' as if it were an insult, now."

Azghar ignored her last statement, and continued shedding his armor. After his chestpiece came his bracers, and then he pulled off his helmet and shook out his beard and ponytail, greasy and unwashed as usual. He stripped off the rest of his armor, his leggings and his boots, until he was wearing nothing but some worn cloth and leather under armor. He took off his footwraps. His toenails were long and unclean. Azghar jumped up onto the wall, sticking his feet in, but instantly fell back down. "Mmh." He grunted a bit, taking a slower approach this time. He stuck one foot in, then the next higher, as Drinn had down, following with his arms as if he was climbing a ladder. The side of the wall collapsed under him and he slid to the ground. Wiping his hands together to get the dirt off, he closed his eyes tightly and opened them again a few times, scratched his beard, and continued to stare at the wall.

Drinn
10-05-2007, 11:08 PM
"I don't know which is better...", she sucked in air through her amusement,"your knickers or your graceful performance!"
Drinn let her back hit the wall as she threw back her head laughing, her arms folded over her stomach like she might double over.

"Phewww...", she cooed as she caught her breath a few minutes later. "Okay," The elf cleared her throat. "Now do you see? We're going to have to work together on this one... Or you could keep trying to climb the wall."
Drinn snorted with a grin spreading over her face, trying to not burst out laughing again.

Azghar
10-05-2007, 11:11 PM
Azghar himself snorted at her comment. "Agreed. What do you suppose we do? I'm definitly not getting you up there before me so you can leave me stranded here."

He crossed his dirt stained arms, turning to face Drinn. He tapped his foot a few times and rolled his eye, waiting for her to control her laughter.

Drinn
10-05-2007, 11:22 PM
She sighed dramatically and gave him a scornful look. "Well, I won't able to hoist you up there. Sorry. So It looks like you're going to have to take your chances with me getting out first. Besides, if I really wanted to just leave you down here, I wouldn't have bothered with those natives in the first place." Drinn kicked one of the crumpled corpses on the floor of the ditch for effect.

She eyed him a moment, particularly his shoulders. He was larger then the orcs native to Orgrimmar and looked like he could bare a decent amount of weight. His armor alone had to weigh more then she did. She chewed her lip thoughtfully in quiet repose.

Drinn nodded as if making up her mind and took a step towards him, "Right then. Pick me up, Mongrel."

Azghar
10-05-2007, 11:29 PM
Azghar grinned at the word 'Mongrel', possibly at the attempt of an insult or perhaps because he took it as a compliment. "You didn't know it was me down here, though, did you." He didn't say it as a question.

Azghar closed the remaining space between them. "Are you tall enough, or should I..throw you?" He glanced at her then looked up the wall.

Drinn
10-05-2007, 11:35 PM
Shot him another annoyed look before placing one hand on shoulder to steady herself, the other on top of his head as she started to climb up him. Her movements were a little less then graceful as her boots dug in to him but then again, climbing up on a partially defiant orc wasn't something she did very often. She grunted as she struggled to get on to his shoulders.

"Little help?"

Azghar
10-05-2007, 11:39 PM
He looked annoyed as well as he put his hands under her foot and hoisted her up. He stepped back with one foot to better support himself, accidently placing his foot on his shield. He rocked back and forth a bit, trying to keep a steady balance for Drinn to climb up. "Cmon..."

Drinn
10-05-2007, 11:55 PM
She teetered on his shoulders, going to her tip toes. Her calves straining as she stretched herself to better reach the edge.

"Damnit orc, come on..",now gritting her teeth.

Drinns palms come to smack onto the ground above and her fingertips claw into the ground for some sort of hold. The elf kicked her legs, giving some momentum to her ascend as she struggled to pull herself up. Her boot thumped Azghar unintentionally in the forehead. Drinns arms shaking as the tendons in her shoulders burned. She grunted and lifted the top half of her body up to lay flatly on the ground.
She only rested a moment before pulling the rest of her out of sight from the bottom of the ditch.

Azghar
10-05-2007, 11:58 PM
"Urgh!" Azghar took a step back after she was off of him, putting his hand to his head as he was kicked. "Stupid ...!" He mumbled something and looked up, waiting for her to show herself. He backed up, stepping off of the shield, to the other side of the hole to try and get the right angle to see out.

Drinn
10-06-2007, 12:06 AM
As Azghar sat looking up the sky changed into the soft violet hues of the evening. Drinn had been gone for sometime now. The orc sighed heavily through his nose, cursing himself for letting that damn elf take off again. Azghar kicked his shield that laid on the ground in frustration.

"Hey, you might want to keep it down." A pair of familar green eyes peeked over the edge as a woven cord snaked it's way downward.

"Natives."

Azghar
10-06-2007, 12:10 AM
He immediatly grabbed the rope, tugging it, then stopped and looked down. He picked up his helmet and tossed it out of the hole. "..Heads up!"
Azghar began picking up his other smaller pieces of armor and tossing them up. After throwing his sword and shield up, he began to tie his shoulder guards and chest piece onto the rope. "Pull 'er up!"

Drinn
10-06-2007, 12:19 AM
She yelped at the first piece of armor that flew passed her, recoiling to not be hit by anything. Drinn tightened the rope around her hands and started to pull backwards slowly inching the large pieces of plate upward. The armor weighed much more then it looked and it was difficult for her to yank quickly with her already tired arms. She grunted and breathed roughly through her nose as she locked her legs as she pulled.
Just then in the distance came a cry. It was high pitched, tribal and sounded far too familiar. The elf groaned and tugged harder.

"Better hurry up. Looks like they noticed their missing friends!" She called out to Azghar.

Azghar
10-06-2007, 12:26 AM
"Tie the rope to something! You're too weak!" Azghar put one hand on the rope, waiting. After Drinn complied, tying it to a tree, Azghar yanked on it to test its strength then began hoisting himself up, walking up with his feet against the wall as he climbed. He could feel the rope stretching and it nearly broke with the combined weight of the orc and the armor, but he made it up. Pushing Drinn out of the way, he lugged the rest of the rope up and untied the armor. Grabbing different pieces, putting some on and dropping some in bags, he hurried to leave. He rolled his beaten helmet towards the Elf with one foot. "Carry it, quickly." He tucked his chestpiece under his arm and slung his shoulders over his back along with his shield. "Take the sword too! Now let's go." Azghar began walking, he didn't particularly remember where exactly he was, but he was sure almost positive he was going the opposite way that the shouts were coming from.

Drinn
10-06-2007, 12:39 AM
She blinked at him, half stunned but shoved the beaten helmet under her arm. She gripped the handle of the large sword. She was no stranger to swords. In fact, she fancied them more then daggers, unlike the typical rogue. This one however was made for two hands and the weight of it seemed strange and oddly balanced. It was difficult for her to pick up correctly so she drug it behind her, her arm extended with it slightly, it's edged tip scrapped against the ground.

"I don't recall saying I was going to come back for your armor...", she started walking very quickly in the same direction, further into the jungle of the Vale.

Soon there was another cry and then the soft high pitched sound of an arrow cutting through the air. Her walk became a run as the brush of the jungle seemed to take over.

Azghar
10-06-2007, 12:51 AM
Azghar began to run. His armor rattled together, and he cracked sticks and branches as he stomped forward, but is was of no matter, as they had already alerted the trolls. "Cmon! Keep up!" Whether he was worried about her or her armor, Drinn did not know, but either way, Azghar would certainly not be pleased if she and his belongings were left behind. He wasn't quite sure what to do at the moment, he was tired, his thoughts were jumbled, and all he could think to do was run, so run he did.

Drinn
10-06-2007, 01:00 AM
Drinn huffed, carrying the burden of this brutes armor. She grimaced. Azghar didn't seem to have any direction. The orc was just plodding through the dense undergrowth stomping on whatever came his way. They had passed a dozen good spots to duck out of cover but obviously this orc wasn't accustomed to such practice. Drinn veared off their path, his path, further into the brush. In a mere few strides she was camouflage and seemed to disappear or perhaps eaten by the jungle its self; armor, sword and all...

((Heh, he just lost another set.))

Azghar
10-06-2007, 01:02 PM
Azghar glanced behind him, and Drinn was gone. He growled, and stopped for a few seconds, quickly glanced around. To his left he saw through a small opening in the trees and brush a large pool of water. He immediatly began jumped over the bushes and squeezing in between trees until he was at the waters edge. He threw his armor into the water and turned. He was standing infront of tall tree that looked easily climbable. He looked like some sort of large primate as he scaled the tree; he was much more agile without all of his heavy armor on. He perched himself on a branch, well hidden by the fan-like leaves, and waited for the hunters to pass by.
