These are NOT RP specific... these are the general naming rules for all server types.

"In particular, you may not use any name:

1. Belonging to another person with the intent of imitating that person, including without limitation a "game master" or any other employee or agent of Blizzard; ((Naturally.))

2. That incorporates vulgar language or which are otherwise offensive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, or racially, ethically, or otherwise objectionable; ((Duh.))

3. Subject to the rights of any other person or entity without written authorization from that person or entity; ((No copyright violations... This one gets broken pretty often.))

4. That belongs to a popular culture figure, celebrity, or media personality;

5. That is, contains, or is substantially similar to a trademark or service mark, whether registered or not; ((WTF... I've seen "cocacola" and so many other retarded names, particularly gold farmers...))

6. Belonging to any religious figure or deity; ((Not seen this one so much...))

7. Taken from Blizzard's Warcraft products, including character names from the Warcraft series of novels;

8. Related to drugs, sex, alcohol, or criminal activity; ((This one depends entirely on interpretation, but could mean no "Drunk" dwarf names, or organized crime syndicates, etc.))

9. Compromised of a partial or complete sentence (e.g., "Inyourface" or "Welovebeef", etc.); ((This one is SO violated... I mean insanely violated.))

10. Compromised of gibberish. (e.g., "Asdfghj", "Accxxfg", etc.); ((Also frequently violated...))

11. Referring to pop culture icons or personas (e.g. "Britneyspears", "Austinpowers", "Batman");

12. That utilizes "leet" or "dudespeak" (e.g. "Roflcopter", "Xxnewbxx", "Roxxoryou"); ((Ever been on a PVP server? Dear god...))

13. That incorporates titles. For the purposes of this subsection, titles shall include without limitation 'rank' titles (e.g. "CorporalTed", or "GeneralVlad"), monarchistic or fantasy titles (e.g. "KingMike", "LordSanchez"), and religious titles (e.g. "ThePope", "ReverendAl").

You cannot use misspelling or an alternative spelling to circumvent the name restrictions listed above, nor can you have a "first" and "last" name that, when combined, violate the above name restrictions.

Thanks Terok Nor... I always forget to look for this when people say, "My name isn't against the rules!"

I've seen so many 13 violations.

OP, why make a thread highlighting what constitutes a name violation when you've named your character after a space station from the Star Trek series?

I mean, literally at that. You haven't even changed any of the letters up, or anything. :eek:

#9 is the basis of the majority of name reports I send in.

The only names I've reported have gone under #6 actually. The rest I find fairly easy to just dismiss the player as silly and otherwise pretend they're not there.

-shrug- I think it's pretty innocuous and relatively obscure compared to 99.9% of the crap out there. If it bothers you, you're welcome to report it :P

O.O ...I didn't know about #6.

Well, in truth, while I'm not very fond of your choice in names, I'd hardly go so far as reporting it. I just found the thread topic and its author's name to be slightly ironic, is all.

Also, I'd agree; Your name is nowhere near as bad as many of the others I see in-game daily.

<---- Totally a violation of naming policy.

Neithan is a tragic figure from the Simillarion. It was taken-- and fairly common, according to Armory-- but the misspelling Niethan is MINE.

6. Belonging to any religious figure or deity; ((Not seen this one so much...))

That's almost all of my character names. How "religious" does this mean? Is it just that characters can not be named in a way that would offend people following one of the major world religions? Are obscure Mesopotamian gods or random theological concepts okay? What about archangels and demons?

Bah. Blizzard violates their own naming rules in their "gimmicky" NPC names all the time.

Yeah, honestly if you cant stand a guild name just turn it off. Some guilds honestly make me laugh, though not as much as arena names.

Bah. Blizzard violates their own naming rules in their "gimmicky" NPC names all the time.

The religious names I reported were pretty blatantly mainstream religion offensive and they got changed very quickly compared to some of the less blatant or more silly than offensive naming violations. Anyone who pays attention to my rants already knows I'm generally an advocate of ignore and move on, but those were actually more than I could take.

I doubt obscure Mesopotamian gods or random theological concepts would offend people, but on the off chance that they do, you never know! It could happen. But unless it's mainstream, I doubt such a report would get acted on half as quickly.

Blizzard doesn't use the banstick on themselves, so I think they reserve the right to fill their game with cheese.
