View Full Version : Go For an RP Walk

Given the weak state of RP in WoW, I wanted to suggest that RPers start walking, rather than running, while going through towns. This is almost like wearing a sign that says "RP," since there's no good reason to walk when it comes to game mechanics. It's entirely a style thing. Also, it helps the atmosphere. After all, you usually don't see the entire population of a city running around; people walk, stroll, amble, etc.

Here's a link to a thread I made on the official RP forums about this very issue. If any of you have alts on other servers, or on other guilds in Feathermoon, please consider relaying this message. While it won't get rid of the griefers, it would do a lot to encourage RPers, especially those who are shy.

I am aware of programs like FlagRSP, but even then walking is useful. It serves to make Azeroth look more real. Also, not everyone has FlagRSP.

Unfortunately, what if there's a lore reason behind running all the time? Like my undead rogue runs most of the time because he never feels tired, and he always like to save time, unless he is walking with a someone else who may feel tired, or he is just bored and is out for a walk. He always follow the roads unless he is out of the fields.

But all in all, this is a good idea anyway, because normally, only roleplayers are willing to take the time to walk. Heck, I will walk, on foot or on mount, when I'm not in a hurry to complete a quest or just wanna chill out in a city.

Unless I'm in a hurry, I walk. Makes me feel superior to all the whelps running about.

Some time back on a thread dealing with ideas on promoting RP I made mention of this very thing.

99.9% of the time in a city unless I am there for a specific purpose like catching a flight or stocking up and repairing before a group/raid, I will be walking. For exactly the reasons you state. Walking gives the clear message, " I am a role player. I am walking to give you time to say something to me, wave hello, wink at me, or stop me to ask directions" . Whatever .

It works almost every time.

I've noticed Lupen walking before as I run by, in a hurry to go somewhere. /nod

I've seen a rogue who is always stealthed and speedy speedy as part of their RP. I like it.

But yes... when looking for RP in cities, I walk walk walk.

I do that all the time. Unfortunately last time I was walking, and about to do some open RP with Lehksi, it was around the Darkmoon Faire outside Shattrath and these silly Grim people came and killed me. Thus, we were forced to RP warfare. ;)

Random people talk to me all the time, even when I run... This <Fulltime Roleplayer> tag is pretty fun.

I went for an RP walk and came across Shadowspeak and Diomades. Sitting in a garden. Chatting.

It was a little slice of surreal.

I try to walk often, depending on which character I'm on. I know Vilmah likes to trot around on her spacegoat.

Hmm. More often than not, that 'someone' is you. In glorious fashion.

As a Death Shaman, I can ressurect with little to no effort. I may not be immortal like some people *Looks at Skafloc*, but my deaths are entertaining and the stuff of legends! Mwahahaha.

OMG he was telling me about that when it was happening XD! I wondered what the hell he meant by 'cuddling totems'.

I realize in retrospec I should have dropped a Frost resist totem.

And really, when a naked Blood elf runs past you at the zep pad outside the undercity, who wouldn't feel compelled to act?

You're just lucky Bir isn't brave enough to cuddle big orcs upon first meeting.

"Frostshock," ancient orc word for "Not tonight honey."

So? Kick on walking. Don't let the non-RPers bother you.

I walked all around Thunder Bluff today. Then realized I was all alone, so there really wasn't any point. Then I felt stupid.

The best is walking while mounted. Especially when your an officer in a fairly large guild that usually salutes its fellow members on sight.

Sometimes I'd feel like Maximus leaving his cell getting saluted by his fellow gladiators on his way to battle.

Since I've finally passed 58, I'm no longer in a rush all the time. I should try walking more often.

Back before BC, when I had a couple thousand Gold, I would put on my best gear and walk between the bank and AH in Ironforge just waiting for someone to ask me for Gold.

I called it "Beggar Fishing."

Then I'd open a trade window with the person, put all of my gold in the window, and go troll forums.

I had someone wait until my character d/c'd once >_>

I just had an evil vision of someone trying that, then their cat jumping at the most amazingly awful time on the keyboard, enabling the trade. :D

I do that with Vil on her spacegoat. Makes me feel speshul when people /wave or /spit..

Alright, alright, loony. ;) I was kinda sad I didn't see any names I recognized though. There was once a time when I could name most of you. ;)

I will say there is a lot of animosity toward RPers Alliance side. I almost -always- get spam from non-RPers when I openly RP, etc. You do have to be pretty thick-skinned these days.

But I live for the moments when I spark RP with people who I'd never expect to chime in. :)
