So the other day I was leveling up an alt that I need for guild run quests and ended up in Durotar.

Someone asked on general if anyone still roleplayed on this server and if there were any roleplaying guilds in existence. I helped out and told them the various guilds out there and what my perception of their niche in the realm is.

Also pimped TNG like I was being paid for it. Explained that most of the RPers do not go near the main forums anymore and stick here. That they do organise events from time to time and so forth. I also explained the Nether Council.

The person was very happy with the info and I'm hoping it means they stay on the realm as they seemed like one of the rarer mature, decent roleplayers with a great attitude.

This has actually happend numerous times that I've met a great RPer who has no idea of the community here on TN.

My point is that I think a lot of new folks are coming past the realm, rolling up a new character to try RP and end up getting disgusted because no-one RPs here and all they run into are 12 year olds looking for 'teh PvPz and phat lewts'. I know I would have left by now if I hadn't found TNG.

I think maybe we should all try to maintain a stronger vigil both in the lowbie zones and on the main forums (remember your barf bag please) to help newcomers to find this place. It's in our own best interests in bringing as many people as possible.

Hey, thanks Grisch. It's nice to know, as a newbie, that there are folks like yourself out there. Pity you're not Alliance!

I've been playing WoW for a while now (since last October, but my computer blew up in January and I went three months as a Ludite), and I've only just discovered the TNG. After reading the official Blizzard forums, I was ready to quit. Actually, I was ready to become Amish and never go near a computer again. But thankfully (for the Amish, who are all breathing a sigh of relief because all I know about them is what I learned watching a Peter Weir film) I discovered TNG last week, and I'm much happier.

Only problem is I'm still undecided whether to roll Alliance or Horde. I've only ever played Alliance. Time for a change? Well, I'm squeamish when it comes to dead things, and I listen to Enya -- but perhaps I should roll against type?

According to the Warcraft Realms census, TN is pretty chockers with Nelfs -- Humans and Undead are up there too. I'm surprised Paladins are rare, it's the most common class I've seen on other realms. Gnomes, Dwarves and Trolls are the least rolled races.

Ugh, I just don't know. Indecisiveness is my weakness. I've made it to level 13 on my Nelf Druid, so perhaps I'll stick with it. Ugh, or maybe I need a change, something different ... ugh, I don't know ... erm, yeah, you really don't want me on your side during a raid or WSG! :?

Go Tauren or Orc. Orcs have a certain feral grace to them that I love. I love the Tauren attitude and one-ness with nature. Undead can be cool if you have the right back story.

You can do the typical evil half-insane forsaken who's biggest challenge in life is deciding what perversion to perform upon their enemies and makes sure to take time out for giggling hysterically. Or you could come up with a Forsaken that remembers being human. That remembers family and friends. Someone torn between what they've become and what they remember being. You don't have to go too overboard on emo. Just make a cool, deep and interesting story.

One of my guild members, Aloivia, used to be a healer during the plague. Died to the plague and has risen to undeath, becoming even more powerfull. Still believes in healing and saving lives.

I adore the Tauren starting zone (same adoration for Night Elf starting zone) ... but I'm more of a mooncalf than a bull. But like you, I'm a fanboy of their lore and shamanic natures. Tauren lands appeal to me.

Orcs are a bit too Klingon, but yourself and Chingaso are priceless PR for the Orcish cause, it makes me want to put my green-with-envy colouring to good use.

Hrmm, perhaps an Undead who's squeamish? Squeals and faints at the sight of blood and guts (which walks and talks). Tim Burton's Corpse Bride is such a brilliant piece of art.

I have endless ideas. I'll think on it some more, there's no rush.

Thanks much for the reply, Grisch. Gods do I wish I had have known about TNG when I first bought WoW, I'd be Lvl 60 by now -- or I would have had a lot more fun, at least, and been spared the horrors of the official Blizzard forums. 8O

By the way, I'm an Aussie (the type who doesn't whine for new servers on the Blizzard WoW forums), so if there are any Guilds who play evenings Australian Eastern Standard Time and are looking for new coffee-makers ... er, players, PM me.

Thanks again Grisch, much appreciated.

If you roll on the Alliance I shall haze you into our culture (warmly) by stepping on your head several times.

If you roll on the Horde, I will try my best to ensure you get into a good RP guild *cough*Mine*cough*

Either way, glad to have more people showing up. Welcome aboard!

On topic:
Grisch, I actually do the same thing whenever I can. Sadly I've only found one chance to help out fledgling roleplayers so far because I /left general LONG ago. However, the spam leaked into LookingForGroup, and I noticed several people saying stupid stuff like "RP is dead" and "lol this server has no RP. And that's just how I like it."

So I sent the one person who seemed to have brought it up a tell, and had a long talk with them about the various roleplaying guilds around, and the fact that there's a lot more RP than it looks. I ended up recruiting that person into my guild a few days later. :)

Good going Fhenrir.

By the way, Gloomberry, if you want to go Alliance, check out Ironforge Regiment or The Rooks.

Ironforge Regiment just get kudos for being the coolest goddamn guild on the server. Seriously, some days I could almost delete Grisch and roll a drawf.

The Rooks, don't know much about them, but they look like a great bunch. Hoping to find out more about them.

Wow, this thread seems to be a bit lacking in alliance-supporters.

*stares down Fhenrir* *ahem* Anyway.

I think I recall seeing you around before, Gloom - usually when I was rushing of to a meeting or a patrol or some such. ^^() I'm usually on in the evenings, but as you're Aussie time, not sure when you're on. Regaurdless, feel free to look me up if you ever need anything, or even if you just want to RP. :3 RP FTW.

Or there's the Forsaken who hasn't quite admited to himself that he's dead yet... or hasn't realized. Mentally damaged, the poor fellow.

Why play with the stunties and the future burgers of the world (night elves) join the majestic HORDE!!!!

Think of all the benefits! You can eat night elves! Punt stunties! Hang out with talking cows! Also dont forget none of our cities are run by a crazed black dragon in disguise!

Yes Horde is where you should be. *nods sagely and hands gloom an official Zusteakai brand "I'm with Thrall" T-Shirt*

Ah.. after reading through Gloom's post thouroughly.. I realize why he didn't mention dwarf..

He's an Aussie.. Earth's version of the Dwarf already!

Accent, booze, fighting.

Yup, so to be a dwarf wouldn't be RPing.

XD

When I was younger, I would have gone nutzo at all of the Australians playing this game. I had a total fetish for them in high school... I think it was the accents. That, and when I met my first Australians, they were the NICEST people in the world.

Still, for some reason, the accents. I dig them. They're smexy.

Gee, I couldn't think of anything less smexier than an aussie accent. Bloody oath mate, fair dinkum, you must be a shrimp short of a barbie! Streuth. Although I do wrestle wombats in my spare-time ...

Hrmm, the Undead who can't admit he's Dead. Reminds me of a Monty Python sketch ...

Horde or Alliance? I'll flip a coin.

The Rooks, don't know much about them, but they look like a great bunch. Hoping to find out more about them.

Although there are good individuals in Rooks, for the most part all of the members I've encountered have been... Less than stellar.

In fact, they've been awesome enough to land a spot on my KoS list.
Seriously, a lot of people in Rooks are assholes.
Ganking, /laughing, /spitting, and corpse camping aren't qualities that make up a 'great bunch.'

Wow, ok, this seems the exact opposite to what I've seen of them. I was a bit concerned with their 'gank day' event I saw advertised on their forums. But just put it down to messing around.

Guess I have to find out more first.

I apologize if people have had less than savory encounters with the Rooks. I've had the same thing with Citadel and Our Friends the Grim. *Shrugs.* It leaks everywhere. PS. Grisch, I got your PM, have yet to be on simultaneously as the GM. WIll let you know when I've talked to you. Officers sound interested.

First of all, /agree with the OP. I've been thinking of having events in the starting areas to welcome people to the server. Maybe help them with started quests and show them some RP right after they hit the "enter world" button.

Gloom, welcome to the server! If you're inclined to create a dwarf character, I highly recommend the Ironforge Regiment (IFR). They are a blast. They do marching and drills, have lots of RP events and PVP (I'm not sure of their PVE accomplishments). One thing I regret from time to time is making Xeran a dwarf paladin instead of human so I could join them. Xeran is 56 now, however, so I don't think I'll be rerolling with him.

Personally, I like it Alliance side, though the Horde side can be fun as well. The Alliance has cities that are, IMHO, better fleshed out than those on the Horde side. There's more "culture." I also like the paladin class and a lot of the themes available Alliance side. I have played a Horde Warrior to 60 on Bloodscalp (PVP) and have several alts there. I've been there for 9 months or so and, for me, it was a time for a change. I liked having to go from Darkshore to Astranaar and having no idea how to get there except "it's South of here." It was also interesting to enter Darkshire the first time and the guards didn't want to kick my teeth in.

The Horde side has its own advantages. One thing I liked to do on my Tauren hunter (Emerald Dream) is go camping in the Barrens or Mulgore. There's a closeness to the land that you dont' really get Alliance side. Alliance could go camping, but there's all those pubs around so why bother? I love the Tauren race, attitudes, culture, look and everything. They have a certain quiet nobility that I like. And Mulgore is still the best starting area IMHO (I now have characters of each race and have tried them all.)

Anyway, that's my two copper. Roll what makes you happy. *cough* Alliance *cough* Nightelf female dancing *cough*

:)

*cough* Nightelf female dancing *cough*

:)

Over-rated. The troll female dance is the sexiest, imo. :)

Play which ever side you find more fun. Personally I'm biased towards the alliance side, since that's what I play, but having more horde to kill can be a good thing, too.

Nope, you're wrong.

Troll dancing > all; therefore troll dancing is > than night elf dancing.
