I honestly cannot think of a way that it could have happened, but I recently had my account stolen from me. This post is meant to be a warning to anyone who would happen to get a tell from any of my characters (Kaliera, Raina, Akora, Rhylisa). Should you get a tell from any of them in the next few days, it is NOT me. I'm working to get this all straightened out, and hope to be back behind my characters shortly.

Ack! So sorry!

That sucks!! When they find out how it happened, be sure to share it with us here, so that we can hopefully avoid the same issue.

And also, if you need help restoring any gear that isn't restored, I volunteer to instance with ya.

I was wondering why you weren't in the Eye last night. And my god is that person gonna get rich off your characters.

I was in the Eye, this all happened after I had logged off for the night. I raid on Akora, not Kaliera. :P

I managed to give blizzard a call though, and they've changed the password. A lot of my stuff got sharded, but I should be able to get most of it back sans enchants/gems/etc. No worries about seeing a fake Kali in game now though, carry on, nothing to see here. :D

Eesh. I still remember when Niethan got hijacked.

It was on like a Friday evening, too, so I had to wait all weekend for Blizzard's call lines to reopen.

Download any addons recently? Visit any wow-based websites?

Just curious if there's something out there we should be avoiding (aside from the normal stuff people should avoid, like the IE web browser).

That has to be fucking heartbreaking to see your hard work down the tubes like that, hopefully it will all be restored even if you'll be missing enchants and gems. :(

No matter how careful you are, it can happen. I'm pretty sure there are people who are just brute-forcing their way through passwords out there.

One thing that I do is have my pword set to a very complicated string of letters and numbers.

One of my old passwords was "HJKWLRISPQ"

I have that saved to notepad with a shortcut to it on my desktop. Then I highlight the text and use a CTRL + V in the password field.

Kaldore, you *almost* have the right idea. It's not a good idea to place the actual string on your computer, as a dedicated Hacker could find that and take it with ease. Make a physical copy on a Post-it note, that's what I do.

First steps to prevent against keylogging:
1) Download Firefox.
2) Download Firefox.
3) Did you download Firefox yet?
4) Change your password early and often. I'm guilty of this one, I hardly ever change, but it gives me little to no protection against people using Keygens to get passwords.

Speaking of Keygens, they are probably a Password Hacker's best friend. I've used them before, and they may take a goddamn while (48 hours+), but you'll get in. If only women were like passwords...

Well I'm not really sure what I could seriously do about Dedicated hackers, but this is what I figured I could do... Maybe I should have it set up somewhere like online and I could copy paste it from there, like a PM inbox or something.

Still not 100% safe, but you could try.

I've always been a firefox supporter, and I've ALWAYS been careful about what sites I view, and what links I click. The ironic bit is I always used to chuckle at keylogger attemps on the forums. The links and posts are so absuredly easy to tell apart from honest posters that I had to question how anyone could possibly be dumb enough to fall for one. Apparantly, the answer to that question is "me".

As an update, the hacker not only deleted my gear, but he deleted my characters...every single one of them, across every server I've ever been a part of. A GM team is currently investigating my situation, and it's fairly likely that I'll have my stuff restored, but until then, Kali is in a sort of limbo. :<

Holy hell.

Well, uhm... anything I can do to help (whether instance-runs, gold donations, whatever) is at your disposal. For any of your characters, or anything.

Wish there was something more I could say or do.

In addition to Firefox, which is not invulnerable especially as it becomes more popular, the NoScript addon makes me feel so much more comfy, and my virus/spyware scans since I got it have all been spotless. Still not 100%, but hey, I feel better.

I was worried that was you when I logged on to find four characters missing from my friends list tonight. Jeez. That is plain old mean. They've restored much lighter things for others before, I can't imagine they won't do it for you. It still SUCKS though.

P.S. In addition to what I said - Kali, check out your Private Messages when you get a chance.
