View Full Version : 3 accounts in same house. Need intervention
Lovely

So my hubby and I recently got a roomate. We needed some extra money, and had an extra room, so one of our good friends moved in with us AND got a WoW account.
Now, we are playing more than ever, and are leveling alts together. Much fun having three computers side by side and playing together. Mmmm.
The problem is, we're all suffering from "too much WoW" syndrome.
Last night, while leaving to pick up our roomie from work, I looked at my husband and almost said "Light be with you." I actually had to catch myself to not say it.
Then my roomie was talking about giving change to someone at her work, and asked her customer if they had copper!!
I'm thinking we need an intervention....hehe.
<3 this damn addictive game.

Hahaha ... yes. My boss and I were talking technology and about putting things in databases. We decided it would be a good idea so I said "database for the win!" I was shocked that I actually said it.
I'm thinking at some point I'm going to take a reality check week off from WoW. Once I hit 60 with Xeran. probably.
No WoW.
No forums.
No TN Gazette (though I <3 you all)
Just real life for a week. Maybe I'll take a RL vacation too and go somewhere.

I seriously need to find a significant other who games as much as I do.
...
On second thought, no, I don't. I would never get anything productive done. I still have illusions of the day that I will be able to kick the habit & focus back on my carreer and attaining certifications. Maybe once I've got full tier 2 and a respectable feral set... but then the expansion will be coming out! ONOES!

My friend got pissed off at me because I talked too much about WoW...he said I couldnt talk about it for 10 minutes, I only lasted 6 minutes 34 seconds before I bombed out :(
(( So I'm sitting at my computer playing Oblivion. Been sitting there pretty much all day, playing one game or another. Spouse comes in, sees me there, and says "Did I tell you today how much I love you?" Then we proceed to talk about games for the next 30 minutes. So to all you poor folks who have spouses that don't like gaming, I have only one thing to say to you:
PWND!

I don't carry my in character habits to real life (since it's RP! It's not me!). However, I -do- find myself taking out of character speech patterns to real life with me.
"pwnt", "For the Lose", and "Roffles" are all things I've found myself actually say to friends and family. Thankfully my friends usually know what the hell I'm talking about. Family on the other hand...

:p Goofy bums. If anything I dont talk about games, at all. Only a few of my friends play WoW and I might talk about it with them sometimes but thats it. I am not exactly mr social hour though I truthfully dont like talking about myself (or my hobbies) hardly at all. I have played one mmo for over 7 years now and truthfully only like 2 of my friends even know the name of it.

Most of my friends complain now that all I talk about is this game. I think I'm getting a bit obsessive. Real life just doesn't... have that ... frostshock.. to it anymore.. Not sure how else to put it.

Oh yes, and our household ALWAYS using net-slang in conversations, and 50% of our conversations around the apartment are about WoW.
Usually because at least ONE of us is online when we're home. >_> Ok, usually at least two... three... Geh. We're addicts.
We have more WoW accounts than people in our home. :)

Between Clys and I we have four wow accounts (three active) and 3 EQ2 accounts (two active). Two of my daughters, a son-in-law, a daughter's live-in boyfriend, and two foster kids all game with us too.
On the other hand...this family doesn't sit for hours and stare numbly at the tv everynight like most hometown Americans. We just choose to find our nightly entertainment somewhere that is commercial free and requires interaction rather than self-hynposis.
And yes, I do love Clys insanely and we're still talking about the games and our RP storylines late at night like a couple of giggly teenagers in bed when we should be getting some sleep for work the next day.

My hubby and I are both huge, huge gamers. A typical conversation (from this afternoon when we were on a two-hour drive) :
Real life stuff: 3minutes
How everyone else on the road sucks at driving except for us: 15 minutes
Games (Oblivion and WoW): 1hour and 42 minutes
>.>
We don't watch tv... I only watch it for one hour every week, less if my show is in reruns. I havent gone to the movies in ages... I think this is much more fun (and cheaper... I saw the price of movie tickets the other day and nearly dropped my drink 8O ).
Oh, and I agree that having partners to level up with is the most fun. My hubby and I are playing our mains exclusively together (till we ding 60 that is) and I find playing a character by myself just isn't as fun.
I do say WoW terms in real life, all the damn time.

We used to do that with Quake 2, but it was just the two of us. Still, it was fun jumping into a deathmatch and being able to coordinate. I was a pro with a super shotgun and could take out anyone....I just bounced like a Night Elf and then blasted em point blank....hehe.

Heheh, its funny, when Ker and I go on dates, we *always* end up talking about what/how our characters are doing RP-wise. We like, discuss how they feel and talk about thier relations to others and what we're probably doing next. And we talk about this stuff *in depth* for a good amount of time.
Geeky, no?

My daughters had LAN parties at the house before they grew up and moved to their own apartments. Half the teens that would show up at those LANS were girls, not 20%, HALF the gamers that had wires laying all across my extra living room were girls.

That wasn't a LAN party
That was a Slumber Party.
I was in a PUGG (http://www.pugg.net/).

They did that too, but they went to the Portland Convention center. Admission was $25 for the weekend pass. The arena was full of male AND female gamers.
And I don't call 18 teenagers in my house a slumber party. Smokies had to nix the little delivery car and bring our pizzas in a van.

You people are actually starting to make me feel... I dunno. Sad, I guess? Trust me when I say that if you are a gamer, and are simultaneously also a heterosexual female, you are a minority. A treasure, if you will, heard about only in legend, and encountered only by the luckiest few.
For example, the LAN parties I host at my house? www.coloradogamers.com
ENTIRELY.... MALE.
The SPLAT LAN I go to down in Colorado Springs? splat.uccs.edu
You guessed it. All guys.
Not that I don't mind fragging guys any less than I like fragging girls.
Wait a sec, that last sentence came out sounding wrong.
ANYWAY... yeah. You make it seem like girl gamers are everywhere. Either they're not, or I have no idea where to look. Maybe I'm just too old to go to the places you have to go in order to meet these types of people... but at 26, I at least don't consider myself old. = /
The funny thing is, I'm like... the perfect guy... from what I've been told/have read, anyway. I'm not trying to be narccistic or anything.. but let's look at the list of credentials here.
A) Own my own house.
B) Above average income level
C) Stable employment
D) Good set of moral values
E) Tall
F) I CAN COOK. zomg.
G) Free technical support.
H) Intelligent enough to hold meaningful conversations (at least i like to think so)
I) Family-oriented.
J) The Anti-Drug (Hate taste of alcohol, can't stand smoke of any kind, needle-phobic, not to mention i'm a complete control freak when it comes to my own state of mind)
K) Non-violent
So yeah. Double-you-tee-eff.
**NOTE** I apologize in advance if any of this really does come off as a bit conceited. I usually try to be pretty humble... but hey, you have to focus on the good stuff. That's where confidence comes in.

Uh yeah well, there are what women/girls SAY they look for in a guy, and then what they actually WANT.
I have yet to meet a girl who says they dont like someone who is funny for example. But I know plenty of funny guys who have no girlfriends. I have heard plenty of girls say they like mature adult guys with real jobs, but this to my knowledge really means "rich guys" the end. And lastly they say good personality, but I find this also is a double meaning which in truth stands for "hot and good in the sack".
Females are just as likely to only be interested in someone because they are "sexy" as any guy is. I have worked with enough women in my time to know that line about them wanting more maturity and being conversationalists etc on average is pure bulll..... poopy :).

They're probably crazier in the bedroom too if you get my drift. >.>
You need to come to Portland Oregon. Maybe it's because it rains all the freakin time that girls had to find more indoor activities here, but I'm telling you, even in my patient load, I find nearly as many female gamers as male gamers.
Side note, you won't find that many of them on pvp servers. That much is very true. Studies even support this. You'll find them on RP servers without the pvp. There are girls that are into the competitiveness of pvp, but many if not most according to the studies I've read are in the games where they can lean more towards the socializing bend where the game is more a chat room with really good graphics and game-goals rather than the other way around. In WoW there's a huge female population on Silver Hand and Scarlet Crusade. Here on TN, it's a much slimmer ratio finding a female player. In EQ, female populations on FV, the RP server, as well as the non-designated "unofficial" RP servers had lots of women. The Zek servers, however, where it's PVP, you won't find many women. Women like to talk, they like to socialize. But then, isn't that a man's four most dreaded words in a relationship? "We need to talk?"

My girlfriend doesn't play games at all, nor does she have any desire to do so, which surprisingly, works out far better for me that one might think. She drags me away from the computer or console and I end up actually having a life outside my house, much to my enjoyment. Variety is the spice of life, and I think if my girl was a gamer, I'd probably be a lot less happy in the long run.

Its true, we don't have it easy. I remember DDRing in Orlando this one time with Keraph...there were a bunch of elite guys making fun of me, saying I was only doing heavy songs because he could pull me through...which wasn't true, I was playing them just as well as him... Yeah, life as a gamer girl is peaches and cream. *high-five Naddy.* What we need to do is put together a national movement and call all these guys out, these guys that think women are inferior at gaming, and kick all their asses.

I got a good laugh from that. XD Anywho, you are now required to swing by the Artist Alley and pay Conidivh, Alucian and I a visit!! ^_^
And, of course, us Gamer Girls rule over all. ^_~ I've also found lovely ways to turn sexist remarks back on the creeps that make them... but they aren't the sort of thing for public display unless I hop over to the Inferno Section and put an NC17 warning on the topic. XD

I'll believe in it, when you can show me conclusive evidence. I don't mean circumstantial evidence backed up by 'faith' and some circular logic. SHOW it to me buddy, don't require me to believe first, I've been lied to enough.
Same with girl gamers. :P I'll believe they exist when I see one in front of my eyes that plays any PC game for more than 30minutes at a time, and the same game for more than a month. That knows how an IRC channel works and the basics of keeping your PC fast and free of bugs and spyware.

I do find it amusing that guys pick on girls who game. They are really testing the waters of "looking cool." Why? A simple statement.
"Don't be jealous because you can't get a piece of tail like mine."
Whatever variation you want to take - say that to a guy. He'll probably say something stupid to save face. Or try to hurt your feelings.
But it doesn't matter! You all are crazy in the head, and to dwell on it more would mean less game time!

If you see the kid dressed as Sydney Lostarot, with a bigass f*cking tattoo of a sword on his back, tell him Myth says hi. And hug him for me. And call him Baru. As in, Barubary. And he'll freak out. And it'll be awesome.
In fact, LOOK for him at Anime Boston and do that for me. Since you can't make it to -my- con. ;_;

I am in as much disbelieve as Grisch is.
I have never met a Girl gamer in my life.
Most Girls that i know barely know how to turn on the PC (most turn on the monitor only and then complain that the computer does not work).
They giggle in a dumb bimbo manner when they finaly succeed to do something like copy a file (after numerous explanation attempts and trial and error) and then conclude with a stupid "hehe I am now a nerd...hehehe".
The girls that I know are only concerned with fashion, celebrities and reality shows, nothing else. They think that games, computers, Roleplay or related are only for geeks and have basicaly the same personality as Daria's sister.
I cannot even envision a girl that plays games although I am aware that many frequent this very forums. You must all be in an parallel Universe to mine where everything is opposite and a link between dimensions exist through the internet.

Brak, I am sad for you, and my life is a little less sunny because you know no worthwhile girls. ;_;

Omg!! You're going to be at Otakon too? :D *happy-bouncy* My DDR skills are WAY gone (I haven't played much at all in nearly a year and a half now), but I'll still hop on and suck while you do awesome! Were you there last year? There were a couple of guys going around cosplaying quest givers - you had to deliver a "shipment" of leather from one to the other, and they gave you a gold as the quest reward (a little plastic gold coin). I got a good laugh from that. XD Anywho, you are now required to swing by the Artist Alley and pay Conidivh, Alucian and I a visit!! ^_^ XD
Yeah, Ker and I were there last year-- no DDR tourney for us, we were waaaaaay outta practice for that ^^;; If I start now...*maybe* I can be practiced up for this year? *giggles* I doubt it. I'm good, I just don't have the stamina to support the skills xP
But yeah, we'll DEFINITLEY see you guys, just give us a location (I mean, once you know WHERE in Artists Alley you are!!). ^^;;

Where I come from, it's not that hard. My high school held LAN parties, and a bunch of my female friends would come and participate, in addition to the two hundred other people that were there. Maybe I'm just lucky... >.>

Wow... I can't believe so many of you don't believe in gamer girls. You must not have been anywhere around the Unreal Tournament scene, then. There's a woman who builds her own custom computers, hooks up her own network, creates skins for her characters, makes maps for the game, and more.
A few of you might have actually heard of her. Her first name is Asia.

The best part is, she is more socially awkward than most of us girls. At least, when she did the interview, she came across as the real deal. She is 100% geek. It was delightful, and I cheered for her in real life.

Finding girls on the net that play games is apparently easy. TNG seems to have a good amount of them.
We are not talking about internet girls, we are talking about ones you meet in every day life.
For me and others its impossible to find or meet a girl in Real Life that plays games and does not act like a bimbo and who's level of knowledge goes beyond Australian Idol (Its called that in Australia) or related shows.

Well the thing is we gamer peoples are in fact a lesser part of the population anyway, and yes for whatever reason.... Gaming seems to appeal to men more than women. Sucks for us guys looking for hawt rich gamer girls who are willing to give us all thier money. But you cant win them all.
Seriously though, things in common is good. But gaming and or lack of gaming shouldnt be the big picture. No one is one dimensional. If you cant find an interesting person who likes one aspect of your personal hobbies try going for something else. Things in common help build a friendship but you know they say opposites attract.

I think the reason guys dont meet gamer girls is because the gamer girls arent walking around going shopping or whatever 24/7 (I think) they're...*gasp* GAMING. Who would have guessed!?!? So I'd guess D&D conventions and stuff like that is where youd have your best chance of finding one, catching her and adding her to your pokedex....

<-- The rare and unusual Kachimon spends most of her day inside her homemade cave. When she -does- venture out, it is most often at night. She can be found in movie rental stores and restaurants. She is more prone to outdoor activity in the summer, and may be found in Ravinia, where the music of a talented orchestra will soothe the often nasty temper of this savage but cunning beast.

Oi! Also, try college! College is where I met my boyfriend (who plays WoW) and all of our gaming friends. Plenty of girls gamers, there. Especially since it's an animation/gaming school.

I'm an old 1st Ed. D&D player from the early days, and one day last Fall my oldest teenage son says "hey Dad, look at this here game I'm playing, it's just like that old D&D stuff you use to play with your now middle-aged/old gezeer friends. He let me play for a few minutes, and about 3 seconds later I had my own account on my other PC.
I have a close friend that had to move to the mid-west, and I got her involed in WoW, it's a great way for us to keep in touch, and when we talk on the phone or manage to visit, it's 50% WoW talk.
My wife doesn't play and thinks I'm a lunatic. But then, I'm not the one watching re-runs of Falcon Crest either...
Ah, Rhowen, you have a friendly face! It made me break down and post mine. Ahh, the illusions I just shattered... makes me sad...

A friendly face? Is that like having a nice personality? *Blinks* Ah, well, glad to be the proverbial straw, eh?
You wanted me to say "ZOMG RHOBBER IS TEH H4WTS!" ?

It was rhetorical, and a joke aligning with a common male sentiment that heavy girls have nice personalities. ~_~ I thought I was being clever!
