So last night I took the time to perform some long put off maintenance on Elmo, my windserpent.
First, I flew to Winterspring and stabled Elmo, then proceeded to tame one of the Winterspring Screechers for Dive rank 3. A few mob kills was all it took to get that talent learned, plus Screech rank 4 and Claw rank 8.

Next, to Hellfire Peninsula where I tamed a Quillfang Ravager for Bite rank 8 and Gore rank 8 ( all I was after was the Bite, but its always good to learn whatever is available just in case I decide to change out my pets later )

I actually debated keeping this one as a novelty pet, even gave it a name... Crablice. But that would mean I would have to abandon my beloved sentimental Dragonhawk, Sparky. So, after playing around with Crablice a while I dusted off and deloused myself.
Finally, the Main Event! I went in solo to Zul Gurub and tried to tame a Son of Hakkar, the only source of Lightning Breath Rank 6 before the level 66 Windserpents in Netherstorm or Blade's Edge Mountains.

Now I tried this a few days ago with poor results. On Petopia, there are a couple of vids posted that demonstrate how to do this solo taming run. I tried both techniques and failed. Over the next few days I examined both again and decided that the second vid, the one of the orc hunter, was the more "doable" route.
( here are the two vids:)

I added my own twist to it by adopting a tactic demonstrated in the first vid; an invisibility pot.
Armed with my pots I called up Solenev to group with me and converted to raid so I could enter the instance. ( thanks for the help Solenev..)
A couple of dry runs ( resulting in 2 deaths..) and I felt I got the timing down. So, 3rd run was for all the marbles. I mounted and rode from the platform just to the left of the instance entrance off towards the watefall. Dodging the trolls in the little hut nearby I lept off the cliff and into the stream. Immediatly I took the pot and started swimming. I actually avoided detection by most of the Frenzys until just before the other bank at the foot of the Temple of Hakkar, when the pot ran out.
No matter, I made the bank with most of my health intact. Then a dash up the slope, aggroing all the crocolisks, brought me to the path leading to the Temple . I Feigned Death and all the crocs returned to the water's edge. I lay there a while in Feign regenerating my health, and watching the two troll sentinels at the foot of the stairs leading up to the temple.
After a while I was able to guage their movement pattern and when they were the farthest apart from each other and the stairs I took on Aspect of the Cheetah and dashed up the stairs.
To the left was my target, along with several others and a patrol of trolls. A bit of waiting and eventually a single Son of Hakkar separated from the cluster and flies by solo. Thats the sweet one. I put down a freeze trap and pulled him in with a Concussion shot. Started taming immediately.
And... Voila! One tamed Son of Hakkar and Lightning Breath rank 6!

I highly recommend to any hunter trying this, follow the example on Vid #2, but bring along an invisibility pot. It will make life a lot easier as you will only need a single Feign Death and not have to wait for a cooldown as that fellow in the Vid had to..
