View Full Version : The Long Walk (Sanctuary Guild)

It is only through performing difficult and dangerous tasks that we become better creatures. Our guild members have set the task before themselves of completing 'The Long Walk'. A difficult journey from the northern most parts of the Eastern Kingdoms, down, through the Burning Steppes, and finally into Stranglethorn vale and Booty Bay.

They will make no violent actions during this time, and will endeavor to assist all those they come across who may need assistance, be they Horde or Alliance. They are allowed to defend themselves however, and any attempt to harm them will bring the enmity of the entire guild.

No means of travel are allowed besides their feet. They have to walk whenever possible, only running when under threat, or to speed to the aid of someone.

They will be traveling in pairs, two by two.

Look out for us, be you Horde or Alliance and offer a friendly wave, we bring only peace and good intention.

- Grisch of Sanctuary
Honor, Justice, Peace.

((OOC, this is a task that our members must complete before they are fully accepted into the guild. It is meant to strengthen the bond between members under difficult circumstances, and also send a clear message of who we are and what we intend.

We ask that you give our members a friendly wave and allow them to go about their business. Should you wish to hinder them, it's all part of the game, but we'd prefer to make friends rather than enemies.

We appreciate anyone who wishes to interact and roleplay with our members during this event. We will have pairs making the journey over the following weeks. I believe one group is setting out tonite Sunday evening.

Good luck to you.))

((What about the low lvl characters, Tergar is only in his 11th season, and would definitly seem a tasty snack to the mobs in the areas he'll need to walk in))

((I suggest leveling to around 20 first, and then making the walk with someone high level like Borgir. He should be able to protect you, although in your case it will be more of a 'Long Run' than a 'Long Walk' :D.

(( Do you know how many hours it's going to take to WALK from Brill to Stranglethorn with a lvl 50-60 area in the middle? I think making it just half the contienet would be better and less time consuming without naked death walks through Burning Steppes ))

((Yeah, thats gonna end up a death sentence sooner or later, but then the long walk has a much better ring to it than a brisk trot.))

((Yes, Longcat. I have an idea. It takes 32 minutes to walk from the gates of Menethil Harbour to the gates of Ironforge.

Long Walk indeed...))

(( that's better than going from Brill to BB. Even while mounted, it takes a long time to go from end to end through a lot of dangerous zones ))

The objectives of the quest are the following:

1) In character RP while traveling to get to know your quest partner's history.

2) To encourage teamwork among guild members when facing difficult situations.

3) A test of will and dedication.

4) Exposure of guild members to the big bad world out there.

Number one, two and four benefit from taking the longest time possible. Number three will hopefully not ruin the fun of the whole thing, which is why you have a partner. It should take max an hour or two. Bearing in mind that their might be many reasons along the way to hasten your speed, it will most likely be faster.

Of course, if members are finding it highly un-pleasant and would instead like to put forth a different quest for themselves to complete, they are welcome to do so. This does still remain about fun. If you're not enjoying yourself in any way, it's a serious problem and needs to be fixed fast.

Also, I'm hoping for this guild to attract folks that don't get bored by having to spend more than 25 seconds without constant action. I want the folks that DON'T circle run and rabbit hop around the party when everyone is discussing strat. People with an attention span longer than the average 'l33t d00d PvPer kiddie'.

Just so you know, I've posted on our forums asking that all of my members respect this event and don't try to attack you all. If anyone under the Swordwaltzers' banner does so, please let me know.

Kurohane, I got quite a number of cheers on the guild channel when I announced your guilds recognition and support. We all thank you for respecting us in this way. Your guild was already esteemed by us, and I think our respect has increased even more now.

Sounds like a good plan, Grisch. Those people drive me nuts too. I feel like asking "did you just discover that your keyboard has a spacebar?" Grr

I salute your efforts and those of your guildmates. Know that I will not attack members engaged in "the Long Walk" and will make an effort to aid your less experienced members along the more difficult stretches of their journey should I be able. (STV sucks at level 40, for a level 11, it must REALLY suck).

Actually, your whole guild is pretty much HOS (hug on sight). :) Outside of BGs, anyway.

Aye, Grisch. I've done the same as Kurohane with my people. Though my people are rarely so quick to bring the slaughter to whomever... too much risk, too little profit...

But either way, the Greyward will respect your members during their task.

((Sounds like a really cool event, do you guys have to go through a set path or just walk all the entire way (no swimming!) and just get from north to south? If its just north to south what might be fun for some members is climbing up above the burning steps from the Badlands and drinking a slow fall potion or whatever that is, there is a potion for it I know that much...the ride down might be an awesome experience for a lowbie.

((Good idea! That's a great initiation. Back on Scarlet Crusade, my buddy Rostagar and I used to ride our kodos on "walk" through all the Horde territories while we talked about recent happenings and made plans for the future. One such trip ended with the two of us standing in the Cathedral of Light at Stormwind! ))

(( That sounds like a slick idea! Most RP events people engage in seem to be centered around a tavern or a physical place. It sounds neat to chat while "on patrol" or something like that. ))

B-but...I DO pay attention...but sometimes I don't notice I'm doing it... :oops: In fact, I didn't know how much I did it until I was standing in the circle to kill Geddon and someone whispered me with "you like jumping, don't you". ^^;

I don't do that with Alucian, though, cause I count every action he does as part of RP, and Alucian wouldn't stand in place and jump around.

That was actually an accident...I'd just come back from an MC raid, and you know the first thing hunters do in our MC raids is follow Flik's example... /sleep :P

But, hey, he's a druid, they sleep. It's what they do. :)

Borgir, the undead warrior, and myself Grisch will be setting out from Undercity around 3pm today. We are the first to attempt the walk.

Best of luck to you Grisch and anyone attempting the walk. It is a fine way to initialise someone and it will surely Thrill newbies to the game.

I used to give "RP tours" to lowbies who I came accross every now and then. While we travelled near important lore related landmarks (such as Durnhold Keep and the Dragon maw wreckage in the wet lands) I used to tell them the stories of the significance of that place within the lore and how it impacted the course of history.

The newbies got a particular thrill from that, particularly those who were interested in the lore so I am sure that the Walk will be a huge success for everyone who properly participates in it.

And so it came to pass that the Forsaken warrior Borgir, and the Orc shaman Grisch stood shoulder to shoulder at The Barricade, which held back the horrors of the Plaguelands from the lesser terrors of those around The Undercity.

Grisch shouldered his axe and looked over at the warrior.

"We ready for this then?"

"Aye, very ready," affirmed the warrior and together, the two strode into the Plaguelands.

Side by side they fought against the evils that confronted them there. After skirting the Ruins of Andorhal, they proceeded south eventually entering Hillsbrad foothills. It was here that they saved a forsaken mage from the attentions of a bear bent on an undead meal.

The mage appeared to be from some strange land, and spoke an odd dialect:

"Thanx dude! Hey, there's an ally over there, go get him!"

"That is not our way, he has done nothing to threaten us," added Borgir.

"This is PvP n00b! lol"

Grisch simply sighed at Borgir, and the two continued on their journey. Along the way they encountered many Horde and Alliance members. Most of the Alliance returned their friendly waves and left the two to continue their journey.

It was in the Badlands however, near Blackrock Mountain, that they encountered a human mage who attempted to slay them both. He succeeded in dropping the less experienced shaman, but the warrior Borgir leapt into action, and after a close battle, cut the mage down where he stood.

Thankfully Grisch could re-incarnate his flesh, and the two proceeded onwards.

Many hours later the two fighters stumbled wearilly into Booty Bay where they were met by Cirocco and congratulated on their successfull journey.

It was something Grisch would never forget. For one his respect for his undead companion had increased by an order of magnitude. Along the way he had gained insight into the dead warriors mind.

As Grisch let himself fall asleep in a warm bed in the Booty Bay inn, he realised how honored he now felt to have journeyed alongside such a man as Borgir. Sanctuary was drawing all types now, but in each of it's new members, the tenets of Honor, Justice and Peace reigned.

((OOC: It was a lot of fun. We had very few idiotic gank attempts. (mainly due to the Level 59 warrior and his Arcanite Reaper that walked with us). The journey was very sedate for the most part, and at it's end I truly felt like we had finished a hard trek across Azeroth. It really did feel like an accomplishment and I hope the rest of our members have as much fun.

Focusing on roleplaying with all you come across helps a lot. Two people WALKING along a road in WoW does tend to draw a number of onlookers, so you shouldn't be wanting for interaction.))

This is a truth... It seems like eons ago a younger Lupa was leaving the hunter trainers in the Valley of Honour to catch a zeppelin to Lordaeron. It suddenly occurred to her that she was perpetually running everywhere in Azeroth and it would be nice to just take some time and walk leisurely for a bit. The zeppelin tower wasn't going anywhere..

So she did just that. It wasn't long before a mounted orc ((not sure if warrior or shaman, and I forget the name as it was soo long ago)) brought his wolf up alongside Lupa and asked her

"Why do you walk troll?"

Lupa answered, "It is such a nice day, I wanted to enjoy the sights of Orgrimmar and the road to the zeppelin tower without haste.."

At that, the orc dismounted and accompanied Lupa on her casual walk. They talked about the weather, the quality of the food at the Inn, the price of ore at the Auction House. This conversation continued all the way to the tower and on to Lordaeron.

((It was one of the most interesting game experiences I have had to date..))

It is truly amazing what a simple act like walking as opposed to running everywhere can accomplish.

((The RP opportunities just seem to fall at yout feet by doing that, I suspect because its so rare to see it attracts attention ))

Grisch, is this walk open to non-Sanctuary members who wish to simply accompnay in fellowship, if even part of the way?

Well done, noble orc! I am glad you made your journey successfully.

On the subject of the strange dialect, I have noticed it as well. I am working with Dwarven historians in Ironforge on the matter and we believe that there is a primative culture which has gone unnoticed for all these years in Azeroth! Here are some of my notes on the language to date:

LOL: (See also "LAWLZ"). I have determined this is a blessing of some sort. It probably means "Light of Lights" or something to that effect. Example: "Good luck on your trip, LOL." It's like saying "Peace be upon you."

ROFL: (See LOL)

n00b: 'Sir' or 'madam.' There is no gender distinction though: a member of either sex may be a 'n00b.'

1337: This number appears frequently in conversation. I believe it holds some cosmological significance to this culture. Perhaps, in their world view, humanity was created on the 1,337th day or something to that effect. I am sure the number is in some way religious since asking a member of this culture what "1337" means to them will result in many blessings (see LOL).

History and Anthropology aside, I am glad your trip went well. As I stated before: should I see travelers of Sanctuary on the road, I will do what I can to aid their journey.

I haven't been keeping up with the Gazette. Please announce when your members decide to undertake these walks... would certainly be interesting to pay a visit, maybe stroll alongside for a bit. Unfortunate that I would not be able to converse... but regardless, it would certainly be interesting.

((BTW Yes... believe it or not but walking is like, the universal sign for RP. When we get hit with supression aura in BWL (it makes you walk along with slowing down attack/cast speed) some of the guild will say over vent "Heh ARR PEE walk!" = ) ))
