It is with sadness that I am saying my goodbyes. I have to say that of any mmorpg I've ever played, the roleplayers here in this game on this server have truly been the best. I love Twisting Nether. I love the Gazette community. I am not loving WoW.

I was really, REALLY looking forward to the belfs, and I DO love them. I, in fact, bought the Collector's Edition of this game because I was so jazzed about the expansion. For me, however, at getting out of Ghostlands, I found myself grinding the same Hillsbrad/Thousand Needles, etc that I have quested with Danlily, as well as half a dozen other characters I'd had on Silver Hand. I am very dissapointed that the new races don't have quests that go further into the game rather than dumping me back into the same-old-same-old. I don't want to spend the next two months grinding myself through Desolace and Ganklethorn. I don't even enjoy PVP, I was here to play with my husband and because of the friendships and roleplay here. There is NO better RP than what I found here on Twisting Nether, but it's not enough for me. I have to enjoy the game I'm playing along with all that great RP.

Sure, I could grind myself silly and get my belf to Outlands, but I just don't want to go through all that again. The game, itself, has lost its glow for me. On the other hand, three of my four daughters and a son-in-law are playing another game, one where the expansion takes me from Level 1 to 70 and I can do it while talking all night to my girls and their husband/boyfriends.

I will miss you, I will miss the story writing and reading all the talent this community puts out, and I hope to see you sometime in the future whenever another game comes out that we happen to meet upon.

... I am speechless. Except for that. And that... and that.

Kidding aside, I am saddened a bit more now. One: you will be missed greatly, two: I never had the chance to honestly roleplay with you.

((if I sound crazy, go rent basketball and watch it right now!)

I am also saddened that I never got a shot to RP with you. You helped bring a very unique style to this place, and I am certain it would never have become what it has without you.

I must say I am really, really going to miss reading the stories that you and Clys/Morgauth have brought here. But I understand where you are coming from and I hope that we do get the chance to meet again. Whatever happens, I hope that you have only fun times and happy endings! It's just nice knowing that somewhere, a deFafnyr lives on. ;)

Any chance to find out what game it is you're off to?

Yeah I know how you feel Danlily, I have felt that for a long time now. But it doesn't mean that you can't drop by to visit every now and then. I am still here not because I like WoW but because the forum community here has some good and fun people and I enjoy reading the posts and some stories.

Well if you are also leaving TNG as well as WoW then I wish the best for you. It was great to know you and it was a pleasure to meet you.

I'd be tempted to come back with reasons why I disagree with you leaving, but it is a game. If you're not having fun, there's no reason to be playing.

But what about the Immortalis???!

Danyxandra
03-12-2007, 09:02 AM
But what about the Immortalis???!

Clys is still here and having fun. He's able to play both games where it's harder for me to divide my time between two games. The Immortalis stories will continue, but without me. Just as Danlily retired to her suite to knit human sinew into baby blankets, we can assume that Danyxandra is just busy with running the vineyards and the silk plantation, and keeping the Nex'Cruor domestic staff in line.

It's sad that we waited all this time for an expansion, and there is no "middle" added to the game's world. We have new starting zones up to level 20-25ish, we have new lands to explore after 60 with Outlands, but they really dropped the ball for me from level 20-60, and I level slowly. That 40 levels would be hell for me to grind out....yet again.

Thanks for the best wishes, gonna miss you all and will stop by from time to time. *group hugs*

But... But... Meh...

It was RP with The Immortalis that was my breakout of strictly in-guild RP on TN. I won't forget you guys anytime soon while I still play on TN. Best of luck, have fun with your new MMO.

Stop by once in a while to say hi at least.

I feel ya, dan. It's the reason why I quit putting time into alts and just focused on the outlands and making a good 70. If I hadn't had a 60 to jump right into things, and I hadn't hooked up with the new Rho and her crew, I have a feeling I would be doing the same thing right now. If it ain't fun, it just ain't worth playing. Well, anyway... adios, lil missy.

I wish you farewell,
To new and better things,
No matter how hard it is,
Never give it up.
Reach for what you want,
And you'll soar into the sky.
So long, I bid you a farewell,
No matter how hard it may be to let you go.
I'll see you again,
whether you come to visit or it's in our memories.
Never forget those who love you,
for they are always there for you.
We are here for you.
I wish you a farewell,
To a new and more exciting adventure.
Although there will be hard times,
Forget them and remember the good ones
You had here with your family and friends.
We'll love you always.
Farewell.

What can I say? This past few months have been some of the most amazing role play and fun that I have had in this game. I am saddened to see you go, but I also understand completely your reasons. I have your email address, we must continue to stay in touch, if just to drop a note to say "Hello!" once in a while.

Take Care Dany.. you are a special lady.

clys
03-12-2007, 10:49 AM
As I was mentioning to Dany earlier in the week, I think the two of us have a fairly short attention span for games. I was really hoping the expansion would keep us busy for longer than it has, but it really does disappear after the mid-20s, and then there's nothing but the same old quests until you pass 60 again.

Blizz kinda dropped the ball on this, if you ask me. 2 years in the making, and there is *nothing* for the 25-60 crowd? Bah.

Anyway, I'm not leaving the game, I'd still like to get the new Clys to 70. And of course the RP is fabulous.

Knowing our usual pattern, I'm sure we'll either be back when something new hits here, or else we'll see you all in the next great game that comes out. One thing for sure, we won't stop gaming, or RPing!

I'm extraordinarily sad to see you go, and really do feel like a fundamental part of the game, for me, is going with you. The best of the best for you, really. And if you should ever feel like swinging in and saying hi to folks around here, I can't imagine anything but a multitude of celebrations.

Sorry to hear. Just as a note, I don't think anyone would mind if you kept the stories going in Nether Legends. Modelviewer+ photoshop = all the screenshot you need, right? :) You wouldn't be eligible for contest money, but since you aren't playing, that shouldn't be a big deal, right? =D

Also, I will be hitting 70 this week, then another week or two to get the reputation/keys/quests whatever for Karazan, then I'll be back to my pre-TBC availability for random stuff and anti-ganking patrols.

This is much the reason that my priest alt I was so excited about is still in her low 30s. RPing doesn't get you levels, unfortunately. And doing the same crap I've done dozens of times already is weak.

Who knows...maybe after a few months it'll seem newish again. And who knows what level that troll dungeon will be in the Ghostlands, once they add it in...

Take care.

Nah, it's Antonia Bayle. I didn't actually mention EQ2, because I don't want anyone jumping in and starting a bashing war between one game or the other. Can't say anything that hasn't been said before, but I'll give you my fond wishes, and my thanks anyways.

You and Clys are really what saved WoW for me. Up until you I'd been hopping from server to server, trying to find something that fit. I'd roll a character, hook up a little RP here and there, and then just move on. I'd done that with Mencahe, my first real RP being done at a TNG party being thrown at the Brill tavern (I won ten gold for RPing there!). Couldn't stand hunter though, so I hooked myself up a mage, and got ready to give the server one last shot.

By lvl 6 you two had sniped me out of the RP channel, and I got hooked into your storyline and guild, then my own character and his story. Made some good friends, a few enemies (Icly of course... you know who you are, for the most part) and had a few laughs. And for that, I thank you.

You opened up this wide world of fabulous RP to me, and I can not repay that. Thank you, Clys and DanLily.

If you don't like grinding, mark my words... you will tire of EQ2.

You will return... oh yes. They all come back... they all come back eventually... *walks off wringing hands and giggling maniacally*

Anyway... yeah. It just boils down to you doing what is fun for you. After starting a shaman and getting him up to 23 or so, I started to feel the pinch of doing the same zones I did on Northface... so I switched locales. I decided to head over to the wetlands area, do some other content I never really got a chance to do. Still, after 2-3 characters on each side I can see how things would get a bit old.

You seem to have a lot of people who know you, enjoy your company, and might be around your same level range, though... while I can't stand the grind, it's a lot more bearable when you have 2-3 good people to go through it with.

It's a good game, one I played for awhile before realizing it's pace was a bit too slow for my tastes. I was just trying to throw a little humor in there. Regardless, I hope you have fun, and keep in touch on the boards. Now see, I LIKE the changes they made. I didn't like EQ2 right after it came out. And when they nerfed the f*&k out of my fav crafting profession and I couldn't make quick loot anymore, I was crying even more. But anyway. For the record, I still consider WoW to be the best MMO, ever. Period. It is the standard against which I judge all others. But nothing is perfect, of course. I'm very happy with the general trend in MMOs, and WoW has raised the bar a lot higher. EQ2 is, to me, the second best MMO currently available, now. It wasn't when it came out, but most of the frustrating parts have been removed, thankfully. Vanguard has huge potential, but currently the frustration level in the game is way to high (for me). I'd like to see it polished and grow to be what I think it could be, but who knows. Meanwhile, I'm keeping my eye on a few others that are in the stream. I'd really like to see Tabula Rasa turn out to be good. A really great sci-fi MMO would be cool!

Really, as MMO gamers, we've got it pretty good. The genre is still in it's infancy, really. It can only get better! And I will be there with my monthly fee to enjoy the ride.

Danyxandra

I agree, WoW, was the best MMO for me as well. Best damn MMO I've played of the 13 of them. It's just the content has gotten stale for me after two years. Remember, I'm an ADHD Gamer. Playing off and on for two years is damn good for keeping MY attention.

What would I like to see in the future? A sci-fi MMO on the same page as WoW but with the crafting of Horizons. I wanna see elfs and orcs in space, and aliens, and cool spaceships to fly instead of land-rides. I want the cyborg implants of Anarchy Online. Instead of player housing we could have player Millenium Falcons. Clys could be the evil Duchess Palpatina and I could be Barba Fetta, the evil elvish rogue with a crafting addiction..and...and...cyborg implants in my long ears to detect the electronic signals of traps and bombs but they look like really pretty earrings that match with my (cuz they gotta match, dammit) skin tight leather spacesuit that's reinforced with mithral boning that I got during my smuggler run through the Ganklethorn Asteroid Belt. I like most every game to a point, some more than others, and I'm a FIRM BELIEVER that no ONE game is better than another, but that some games are better for Gamer Bob while a different game is better for Gamer Joe. It's all a matter of taste and gaming style.

Danyx, my dad was mainly upset because he played a cleric and was a food crafter. He went from being able to do both fairly well without having to hassle other people all the time, to being able to kill a mob once every forty five minutes (in some extreme cases). Mind you, this was the test server, and he is prone to hyperbole, but my ADHD gaming experience.. and the incessant groaning I'd get from the boyfriend.. I'd never get to play the Ogre. *cry*

I actually loved that game, in spite of how broken it was, just because I had great people that I played with. I left for FFXI (which had lots more glaring problems, but at least the game was finished), so I didn't get the chance to see any of the Jump to Lightspeed content, or player cities. But I've always regarded SWG as the best MMO in regards to role playing. The game mechanics allowed for just about anything you preferred to be.

In regards to gameplay and story, WoW beats all though. But with this strong of story in place, I see so many people getting things totally wrong when they try to role play here. So it's a trade off, I guess.

I loved a lot of things about SWG. I haven't seen a game that even comes close to the awesomeness of their crafting system, where people who have been long time crafters CAN make better things than someone who speed leveled up in a day.

I also loved how huge the worlds were. I used to explore around for days, surveying for minerals or whatever. They just needed a bit more range of environments per world.

Yup beta tested and played SWG. Last time I logged onto SWG it was full of big empty ghost towns, the player cities were empty as everyone was in their spaceships off flying about, leaving the worlds barren, I'm afraid. My favorite part of SWG....well, my characters are clothing horses so I loved the clothing, I loved the houses and I loved being able to "hang" my clothes and display them in "closet space" area.

The one that gets me bouncing is StarGate Worlds: http://www.stargateworlds.com/ I loves me some Stargate, from the Movie to the SG:1 and now Stargate:Atlantis. I love the idea of exploring strange new worlds. Even as a little girl, I was walking around with one of my dad's metal tape-measures pretending it was a communicator. Best birthday present I got from my parents was my space helmet with a built-in walkie talkie.

Farewell M'lady,
I didn't get to do any RP with you, but I did however have the pleasure of being killed by Lady Clys... If you or anyone else need me I am on Florendyl as the Dread Knight Covak Darkravage.

Laron, If I ever play Vanguard, it will be on the Florendyl server and I will look you up and say "hello". At present, however, I beta tested Vanguard from beta 3 or 4, before the pre-order people got in, up until it went live. I'm not jazzed about the corpse runs. Love the diplomacy, but hate the corpse runs. It's a beautiful game, my computer runs it pretty smoothly on half-way decent settings, and I LOVE the Kojan area and the dragon boats...but those corpse runs and the trains. I have nostalgia when I think of EQLive from the old days, but I'd never go back to it, to the days of corpse runs and having griefers wipe people with their trains just to be asshats and then have to suffer the death penalties and corpse runs because of it. Great game for people that those things don't bother, but they bother me.

I completely forgot there was going to be a Stargate MMO. Looks very intriguing. *strokes chin*

I'm more excited about the Warhammer 40K MMO that's recently came to my attention. <<;

i felt the same way after leaving ghostlands. IT seemed as if i was repeating what was done before. I had an edge though, i had never done the horde side of grinding Azeroth prior to lvl 50. But i made myself a promose that i wouldnt let it get to me and force me to back out so i set a goal to hit 40. I met that goal and then i went to 60. After that i went to where i am now, outland.

With all things considered, i can understand why you feel the way you feel. Starting a BE or a draenei isnt as cracked up as you would think. BC was mainly built for the 60s to hit 70, not really to help new race players enjoy the grind all over again. Then you add personal disappointments and it just makes WoW blain.

Im so sorry, but i do hope you find happiness somewhere. Id say go make a superhero or super villain on CoH/CoV (which is pretty hard not to avoid RP) but the missions there are all the same which gets boring (then again, being an all powerful hero/villain makes up for it).

COH is (or at least was... haven't really played it since i started in WoW) TONS of fun. There's absolutely nothing like activating your first "Travel" power and using it to fly/teleport/superspeed/superjump around, or knocking a bunch of mobs on their behinds with one move.

As Cedes mentioned it unfortunately does (or did) get a tad bit repetitive as you approach lvl 40 & such. The XP requirement to level really ramps up like crazy, which lead to a bunch of people endlessly farming certain missions, but still, loads of fun. Also one of the most Alt-Friendly games I've ever played. I'm still not sure why.

I felt like the quests and missions didn't really do anything for the story at all, making me feel like I was just in yet another grinding game. All the missions were so repetitive, and I didn't have a good time. I couldn't bring myself to get up to any level worth mentioning..

However, I absolutely loved the character creator. That was so much fun!

I got to Level 14 in City of Heroes.

I made the character that I always wanted to make in a Super Heroes type game. She obtained Flight. And, I was done.

It was a game that I would have played more if only one person - who isn't in the habit of playing MMOS - would have played. We would however been RPing up a storm, and that would have been why it would have been so great.

Character creation hands down was the best part of that game. Totally agree, Icia.

Honestly that might have been the reason alts were so popular and common.

I stopped playing before CoV hit retail (did beta test it a bit.. but not really enough to get into it). I had a 50 Fire/Rad controller and a Kheldian Warshade in his 40's before I moved to WoW. As for storyline that is basically the truth.. you don't really advance the story at all. If you read the mission texts you could get a sense behind the reasons why you're busting into someone's warehouse and it's full of goons, but there haven't really been too many games where the world itself is shaped by the players. UO & possibly EVE Online are the only ones I can think of.

Once you got into your mid teens and started doing task forces the game got fun, imo. Though they were a bit frustrating in case you lost 1 or 2 members of the party during the task force, since you couldn't invite anyone else once it started. For those unfamiliar, basically a task force was a string of missions (quests) you had to do in sequence with a single group that typically ended in the confrontation of an "Arch-Villan" boss type creature.

One thing about CoH though... it was SO easy to mess up a character in terms of effectiveness. I learned early after my first few characters that a "hero planner" was my best friend.

While I don't know you because I am new to the server, I know what you're feeling. Sometimes, it just gets really hard to stick with an alt. But, I wish you the best of luck in future endeavors.

*looks at his bhaldie infobar* guild: the immortalis 1/14

Between Infection and The Immortalis I went from an RP nub to an RP noob. Gonna miss the rp you two had going in game (even if most of the time I was lurking, I tend to do that, a lot), either say guild or rp channels. It is great and hopefully the wowrp bug will bite again and you'll be back and enjoying wow again, even if only for a few weeks. I have some trials sitting around should you want them, heh.

Have fun, enjoy the gaming with the family, and pwn some nubs for us, ok?

oh CoV has improved. I played during one of there promotional deals (they send news letters every month issuing a new patch with a storyline and this one time they allowed all accounts to be activated for one weekend). I played and traveled to the new map area where the super villain's headquaters is located. There i saw a lab with scientist working on some type of portal. It was all elctric and looked unsafe, but the graphics were crazy. IT was a pvp map of....uh..what sthat Hero's starting area where everyone meets up at? atlas park?. Well that map is a pvp area where u figth and take territory. Also the super villains have missions for you and etc.

CoV had a good patch recently where the super hero's made attacks on CoV maps, was thinking of getting a gamecard to see it...but its over now :(
