Adimar Emroth walked quietly through the hallowed halls of the Temple of Elune. The strange looks he received from the elves that passed him, let him know his presence wasn't all together accepted.
The fact that he was a mage probably didn't help matters much, he thought to himself. Nevertheless, he had a meeting with the elders of the Temple, and he would not let the disdain of the elves keep him from it.
As he entered a large antechamber, just off of the main worship area, the elves gathered there turned abruptly toward him.
The eldest of them spoke, "Greetings Adimar Emroth, it is good that you are on time. Please, step forward so that the elders can see you clearly."
Adimar, stepped forward as the elves formed a semi-circle a small distance in front of him. He spoke calmly as the word "mage" echoed in whispers through the chamber. "Hail, elder of Elune, thank you for agreeing to speak with me. I am eternally grateful."
Once again the oldest of the elves addressed him. " I see you have followed in your fathers footsteps, and taken the path of the arcane. You look surprised...yes, I knew your father. He had a noble heart, as I hope you have also. Because of his generosity to the elves we have agreed to hear what you have to say. But his actions before his death will not keep you in good standing with the elves. Your own actions will determine our course with you."
Adimar nodded solemnly, "Thank you for this chance then. I am honored. I will not waste your time any further. I have come here to ask permission to explore the old elven ruins that are located north and south of Auberdine."
Harsh whispers echoed through the chamber. Never before had a human been given permission to explore elven ruins. In elven eyes, the mistakes and tragedies of the past are best left buried. Especially, when it came to anything arcane.
The elder raised his hand slowly for silence. "I assumed as much..knowing your father. What is it that you wish to uncover in the ruins of the High Elves? Powerful magics to bring down the Horde? Perhaps essences to prolong your human life? Tell me what it is you desire in the ruins of the past."
Adimar spoke firmly and with honesty. "I seek only knowledge. I know of the elves disdain for arcane magics. I assure you I am not addicted nor corrupted by it's use. The knowledge I seek is merely a way to preserve that which may be lost. Magic has created many beneficial things, even you must admit that. Yes, it has caused much death and woe. I promise you, upon my fathers grave, I do seek those things. May I have your permission?"
The elder smiled as Adimar finished. "I see the heart of your father has passed to his son...and also his flamboyant speech. Adimar Emroth, I believe your words...and grant your request."
This time the eruption in the chamber was not whispers, but outbursts of anger. "No human has the right to plunder!" "Send him on his way!"
"Mages brought down the World Tree before, you can not do this!"
The elders simply waited, then lifted his hand. "I am still the Eldest among us. The High Priestess, and elder Druid, and I have already spoken of the matter. Adimar, is free to explore where he wishes...on one condition. Darnassus will send an envoy to accompany him. A druid who will ensure his honesty, and see to the rights of the elves in Adimars travels." Motioning toward the far side of the chamber, the elder continued, "Edrayle, come forward, and accompany Adimar on his search for knowledge."
From the shadows came the most beautiful sight Adimar had ever beheld. Even for an elf, who are known for their beauty, she was wondrous. She walked slowly to him and looked down into his eyes and spoke, " Come human. Lets find the knowledge you seek...and get you back to your own lands."
The smell of pine trees and cool water followed after her as she walked past him and out the door...
