Boredom spreads like the plague

[Maegannon]

Maegannon was bored. She sat firmly upon the steps of the bank, looking at the little fountain that didn't work, watching the hustle and bustle of stormwind rush past her.

She was bored.


She didn't even know why she was bored, she had a thousand things she could..SHOULD be doing. Organising the guild vault, painting the last room in the barracs, listening to hermiss whine about how he had to make yet another desision that would not be fully accepted by everyone, cleaning out her closet, tending to her garden.. investigating the famin more... a thousand things!

But she was bored.

In fact, she noticed that there were an alarming number of people just, sitting around, doing nothing. She spied several people from her guild. There was Langtang, the loud mouthed, red haired warelock who though himself to be quite the ladies man, sitting on the steps of the inn, playing a game of fetch the stick with his hyperactive felhound.

She also spied Thunderbelly, her other favorite dwarf, as he sauntered up and sat down next to her. "I'm bored" He said, making a soft plop as he sat.

She had always liked Thunder, he was a kind person, and while he liked to pretend his sword and shield made him tough, he was mostly all talk. He had been a member of the Ironforge Regiment when she'd met him, and she and Gralin had taken to calling him Jellybelly, a fun poke at his kind-hearted nature.

"Me too.. think of something fun for us to do, Jelly."

"Oy! Ona'these days Ima show you who's jelly!" he said with a laugh. "Why dun you think've somtin, eh?"

"I have, but they're all boring too.. maybe we can sit here and entertain ourselves with the passerby's."

"Eh"

[Upae]

" Go Longgg!!! " Upae cried over the background babble of the Trade District square. She waved to Verloran to back waaay up. She had a good throwing arm. Verloran nodded and ran towards the Gilded Rose. Upae brought her arm back and tossed a perfect spiral right into the space in front of his run. He caught the leather ball with a "whump" in his chest.

Upae giggled and dashed to her left, past the fountain just as Verloran tossed the ball. Too far. Upae accelerated and leapt into the air to snatch the ball with her fingertips just as she reached the steps to the Bank.

But she had stretched herself too far. "Oh mah! THis is gonna smart! " she thought as the ground rushed up to meet her. Then she landed with a "SMUNCH.." Smunch? No "thump?!" or " WHAM!?"

It took a few seconds for Upae to realize that the reason the landing was softer than expected was that she didn't in fact land in the hard marble steps of the Bank. No, she had landed in the lap of a pair of long, shapely legs. Upae slowly turned her head to look up at the owner of those gams..

" Oh.. hello Maemae.." Upae said with some embarassment...

[Maegannon]

OOFF! Something thick and solid had hit her, and it knocked the wind out of her. It took her a few moments to catch her breath, but once she had, she looked down to see what, exactly, had landed on her.

There was a night elf in her lap, a pretty female with short hair almost as white as her own.

"Oh.. hello Maemae" The elf said. She knew that voice, knew the face. Upae.

She coughed. Beside her, the little warrior with the big brown beard was lieing on his side, laughing so hard that no noise was comming from the shaking dwarf.

"Hello Upae,"Cough, cough, "So nice of you to.." cough, "drop by"

She reached over and swatted Thunderbelly, who was still laughing. She smiled down at Upae, trying to hold back her giggles.

"Need a hand?"

[Upae]

" Need a hand?" Maegannon asked after swatting the dwarf next to her, who was doubled over with laughter.

" Ah.. thet would be raht some welcome. " With Maemae's help Upae picked herself up and did a quick once over to make sure she didnt hurt anything. She still had the ball, which was saying something.

" You ok Mae? Ah'm sorreh foe the surprise drop in. Verloran and ah are playing leatherball. Probably not the best place for it. " Looking past the fountain she tried to find Verloran. There he was, turned away to face the other direction talking nonchalantly with some bewildered gnome he had stopped. He looked over his shoulder innocently at Upae, who balled up a fist and shook it at him. He shrugged and mouthed the words "sorry", and flashed a big grin.

Turning to Maegannon and her companion Upae asked. " So what is new with you? Nothing important goin on? No monstahs to slay today? "

[Maegannon]

She laughed, and waves over at Veloran. "I'm alright, just, not used to having pretty girls fall out of the sky and into my lap. Men maybe, I've got cart-loads of them, but never girls." She giggled, and stood, brushing her thigh-length skirt off. She wasn't used to wearing such.. small, things, but she was that bored, and figured she'd give it a shot. It was unseasonably warm, and she dispite her boredom, was enjoying the sunshine.

"Monsters? Nope! Nothing to do, atleast nothing that I can't procrastinate doing a while. Just seems like the kind of day to sit around and enjoy." She smiled. then reached out and brushed a small bit of dirt off of Upae's cheek.

"The lump of Dwarf there is jellybelly" She snickered. He grunted and sat up, "Thunderbelly!"

"Leatherball huh? Want another? I'm so bored right now, I can't stand it!"

[Upae]

Upae smiled. " Yes! Of course. We can play teams. You an Jellehbelleh against me and Verloran. Probably should go to the park tho. The ground is softer an less folk ta collide with."

Upae looked at herself decked out in her woolen trousers and green wool vest, then looked at Maegannon in her pretty skirt. " You gonna be ok playin in thet nice outfit? I would hate foe you to ruin it. We play.. a little rough sometahms. Full contact. Of course, we can make a change from tackle to touch iffen you want.."

Upae raised an eyebrow and a playful smirk appeared on her face.

[Maegannon]

She looked down at her outfit and blushed, "Nono, I'll stop by the house and change. In fact, the guys can head over to the park, but why don't you come with, I can show you around the new place. Its a bit big for just Gralin and I.. been thinking of having a big party to fill it up a bit actualy. It's on the way, c'mon".

She giggled and motioned for Upae to follow, heading in the direction of the Park.

[Upae]

Upae tossed Verloran the ball and followed Maegannon.

" Go on ahead Ver.. you can warm up Jellehbelleh here." Upae called out to her friend.

" So a party eh? Any chance of Tee and I gettin an invite? Sounds like a good idea. "

Fact is Upae hadn't been to a party since that last Ironforge Regiment Ball, and that was far too formal for her tastes. Not the she didnt have fun, but all that finery just wasn't her cup of tea, let alone a mug of grog.

[Maegannon]

((sorry, fell asleep trying to get my daughter to take a nap!))

She lead Upae around the back half of the park, across from cathedral square, unlocking the door to a large townhouse. "I havent' decided yet, but don't be silly, of course you twod be welcomed!" She tossed the keyes on the table and headed up the stairwell.

She ducked into her bedroom, and then into the closet to dig out some clothing that would be more suited for play time in the park. After a few moments she found a set of leather shorts and a linen tank shirt. Pulling her silk shirt over her head, she mumbles down to Upae, "That's an intresting accent you have, I never bothered to ask before, but where do you get it from? I've not heard many elves who speak with accents at all!"

[Upae]

"Quick response Lupes." thought Upae. She had grown accustomed to the funny stares some folk, especially Kaldorei , gave her when she spoke. She had been rehearsing her answer to the few questions that inevitably arose.

" Mah famileh was a druid famileh, remote. Long tahm away from the Tree." Upae called up to Maegannon as she walked about the lower floor, peering into corners and exploring a set of earthenware jars. "We wus in Northern Felwood much, and Moonglade. Sometahms Feralas. Very nomadic. At least until ah was lost. Sumpin happen and ah was found in Moonglade by Master Dentrite, mostly wild. He taught me to be civilized again."

It was a plausible excuse. In fact, Upae hit upon it after hearing Barke talk for the first time after she had regained her full memories of her previous life. He had an accent that wasn't too far from hers, and he was from a frontier druidic family. Indeed, Xelthan had an even nastier accent at times.

She felt bad lying that way, but the less folk knew her secret, the less chance someone would slip up and blurt it out somewhere dangerous.

" Ah lahk what you did in here with the colors. Vereh nahs. "

[Maegannon]

She pulled her linin shirt over her head and yelled down, "I like it, its very.. exotic." and giggled. She grabbed her shorts and slid them on under her skirt, then shimmied out of the skirt, leaving it set on the floor. Grabbing her boots, she hopped down the stairs two at a time.

"Thank you, but the credit goes to Gralin. I haven't had much time lately to do anything." She said, ploping into an overstuffed chair. "He's pretty good at making everything look like you could step out and into a big gree forest." She slid on her boots and reached around, grabbing her hair and pulling it back into a thick pony tail.

She hopped up and grinned, "I'll race you to the guys!" and shifted, golden and black spotted fur errupting over her fles, dropping down on four padded paws. She wagged her tail at Upae and purred.

[Upae]

Upae smiled and shifted as well. Two cheetah's coiled their muscles ready to bolt. Upae growled out a "Go!" and darted out the door and swirved towards the park. The wind whislted past her ears as she raced through the alleys of Stormwind, dodging the folk that meandered along and careful to avoid the hooves of the odd mounted figure she passed.

Turning a sharp corner she took a glance over her shoulder to see where Maegannon was. She didn't have time to find out as a high pitched squeal in front of her caused her to jerk her head forward again. Right in front of her was a group of kids being led my their nanny. At the last second Upae lept into the air to sail up and over the started little girl she had nearly plowed into. Landing on the other side she paused for the briefest second to make sure she was ok, then accelerated again.

The last turn and the archway leading to the park appeared before her. She dashed under into the tunnel and emerged onto the green swath of grass that made up the park. There a little ways down the slope she was Verloran and Thunderbelly tossing the ball back and forth.

Upae slowed to a trot and looked to see where Maegannon was.

[Verloran]

Verloran had been talking to a gnome who was trying to convince him to buy some sort of mind control cap, and he didn't notice the ball that had been thrown by Upae heading right for his head. Well, he did notice it after it hit him.

"Ow!" He rubbed the spot where the ball hit. "Gnome, get out of here. I'm through with you." Looking over at Upae, he chuckled. "Sorry about that. Gnome business and all that."

Upae smiled at him. "Go on ahead Ver... you can warm up Jellehbelleh here."

Jellybelly? What kind of a name was that? Verloran picked the ball up from the ground, watched Upae and her friend walk away, then searched the nearby area for someone who could have had the name Jellybelly. Most likely a Dwarf. The only problem was that Stormwind was full of Dwarves.

This wasn't going to be easy.

[Maegannon]

She sniggled, which is a growl and a giggle mixed together, as she watches upae dash out the froot door. She probably should have told her there was a back door straight into the park, but what fun was that? With another sniggle, she spun around and dashed down the celler stairs and into the winery. With a sharp left, she bounced her way out of the house and into the park, making a fast dive into the moonwell.

As Upae came to a trot next to the boys, she popped up, in all her ponytailed glory, and giggled. She was absolutely soaked, and her linen shirt showed a little more then, had she been in less of a playful mood, she've liked. She took a hop, skip and a jump, climbing her way out of the moonwell and shaking the excess water onto Velorana.

"I win!" She said, and grinned at Upae. "Gimmie that ball and go long, Jellyman!"

Thunderbelly humphed, but tossed the ball to her. Mae motioned with her head for Upae to get behind Thunderbelly. She planned on throwing it over the dwarf to the pretty elf with the exotic accent.

Thunderbelly eyed the Elf. He supposed if Mae was friendly with him, he could be as well. He trotted over to the man and extended a hand.

"Tha names Thunderbelly. Donna be confused by the nickname, tha girl and that priesty o' hers gave itta me ages ago." He said with a right brilliant grin. "If them womens are expectin us to be at tha park, we aughta head that way."

[Upae]

" How did she do thet?! " thought Upae. She hadn't seen her pass her at all! " Tricksy this wun is, and wet too! "

She called for the ball from the dwarf, who 'humphed' at her, but complied. " Go long, Jellyman!" she called to him. The dwarf pumped his little stout legs and dashed a ways up the slope. Upae then noticed Mae motion to her to follow. " Ahh.. this gonna be interestin.." Upae said to herself , and dashed in pursuit of the dwarf.

Maegannon threw back her arm and tossed a high lob towards the dwarf. Towards, and beyond to be exact. Upae raced towards the dwarf, who was straining his neck up to follow the arc off the ball.

He was deceptively quick for his short size. Upae knew she wouldn't make the ball, so she went for the next best thing. Thunderbelly lept into the air in a way that could only be called hilarious and managed to get his stumpy fingers on the ball just barely. A grin of triumph burst from that thick brown beard.

Only to turn into an "O" of surprise when the weight of a full grown female elf with good momentum slammed into his sturdy midrift. The two came crashing to the ground in a tangle of limbs, a blur of white and brown hair and a combined " Ummph!!!" .

The ball bounced away in a few feet and came to rest..

Upae started to giggle...

[Verloran]

Verloran watched the scene unfold before him, laughing quietly to himself through all of it. As the ball bounced, he walked over to where he could see it was headed. He stopped when it did, picked it up, and flashed a smile at the others.

"Right. Now that I have it..." He tossed it into the air and caught it again. "I suppose I should throw it to someone. But what fun would that be? What's the point of throwing something just to have someone else catch it, and repeat the cycle? There isn't a point. Therefore, I have concluded that to truly make this game interesting, we have to add some spice to it. Any ideas?"

[Upae]

Upae extracted herself from the pile. " We'' we can mahk teams.. You an me against Mae and Jellehbelleh. "

"Maybe we can play so that one side gets da ball and needs to pass it to the partner. The partner needs tah run to a finish lahn foe a point. Iffen the other team catched the ball instead, they can run to the other side to trah to make a point foe themselves. Each team can trah to tackles the runner. Iffen they do, they get ta start with the ball from there. Sound fun?"

Upae went to the far end of the park and stuck her staff into the ground. " Dere, dats your lahn. Now we needs sumpin at yo end foe us to use."

[Verloran]

Verloran didn't really follow what Upae was saying, so he just nodded along, thinking he'd pick it up as the game progressed.

"Yeah, sure. Sounds like fun I guess."

[Upae]

" Don worreh.. it wi'' come clear as we play. Now tah start. Mae, you and Jellehbelleh go over to your sahd dere, Verloran an ah will go up there to ours. We will throw you the ball and then its on. You will need tah get past us and across our line. Oh, an tah make it interestin, you can toss your partner the ball iffen you feel you is about to get tackled. Course, thet means your partner will then get smucked."

Upae giggled. It sounded like a good game. However, when she and Verloran got to their end, she saw that it was way too far to Maegannon and Thunderbelly for a decent throw to reach.

" Hmm.. mebe if we kick it. Verloran. Ahm gonna hold the ball here on the ground lahk so. You run up and kick it. Think you can get it that far?"

(( Yay!! We just invented Flag Football!! :D ))

[Verloran]

Verloran chuckled. "Yes, I can kick it. It's not like it's too strenuous a thing to do."

He backed up a couple steps as Upae set the ball on the ground, ran up to it, kicked as hard as he could, and missed. The momentum in his leg caused him to fall backwards.

"Hehe... maybe you should kick it instead." He stood back up rubbing his backside. "I'm already getting more injuries from this than when I go out to fight."

[Upae]

Upae saw Verloran backing up a few steps to get ready to kick the ball. As he dashed forward and swung with his leg, Upae mischievously shifted the ball over by a few inches at the last second before his foot connected.

Verloran's foot swished past in the exact spot the ball used to be and its momentum carried it and its owner forward and up. There was a moment where it seemed time stopped when Verloran was suspended in the air, facing the sky. Then time resumed and he came crashing down flat on his backside. Upae had to suppress a giggle as she got up slowly, rubbing his backside. "Hehe... maybe you should kick it instead." he said.

Upae smiled innocently. " If you insist. " said Upae. With that she got up and motioned Verloran to steady the ball on the grass as she backed up a few paces to make her run in.

[Maegannon]

Mae snickers, watching Verloran crash rear first into the grass. "hehe, maybe you should kick it instead"

"If you insist" Upae said and set up to kick the ball. Mae felt her ear's tingle, and she snickered, shifting quickly into panther form and making a mad dash for the ball, scooping it up with her teeth and nearly taking poor Verloran's fingers off.

She looked at Upae with playful eyes, wagged her tail, and purred, as if to say "Catch me if you can!" before dashing off to the opposite end of the park.

[Verloran]

Verloran blinked.

"Wait... what just happened?"
