Hey all,

I'm thinking about adding a couple of rules to the contest and wanted to get your thoughts on them.

The main one I'm concerned about is a rule stating that only people who post their stories here are eligible for the prize money. This is mostly aimed at collaboration stories where

1. the story gets posted in a few different forums
2. someone responds on one of the other forums
3. someone here copies that post into the TNG thread for completeness sake

I don't want to be all dictatorial about this. It's not like I put WOW GOLD advertisements up and have a financial reason to try to get more people to come to this site.

I also don't want people to hesitate to copy/paste stories here because the number one purpose of this site is to preserve the fiction of Twisting Nether.

However, if someone has not made the effort to become a member of this community I don't think they should reap the reward. *shrug* What do y'all think?

The other rule would formalize my not including "advertisements" that are posted in the Legends forum in the contest. This has ranged from guild recruitments to event advertisements to just "notes posted on a wall" type of things. This line is kinda fuzzy and I guess what makes or breaks whether or not I include it in the contest is whether it is open ended enough that people can respond to it. If it's just a statement of facts then it won't be added. If it's obviously an invitation to others to join in, then it will be added. ((Does that make any sense?))

I've been working on fixing a couple things on the site and added the contest info bar into the header. One of the things I added was a "current entries" option that I want to try. This way people can ask me why their story wasn't included prior to vote-day (assuming they post it before Monday). If it becomes too much of a burden on me to keep it updated I may discontinue it though.

Anyway, do you have any opinion on either of those potential rules?

Makes sense to me. Why would you include anyone not posting here in the voting anyway?

I vote we have a weekly Lurker Search Party too!

We'll sneak around with flashlights and nets and find those lurking RPers and catch them with our nets to bring them into the community!

I'm also fine with the new rules. I guess all the fluff posts will be moved to here or maybe a fluff board made but... I don't care much for either way. :) It isn't like TNG is bombarded with new threads so often that fluff stories/general WoW posts will drown out each other.

OK..changes are as follows:

The story can be written by one person, or a collaboration between two or more writers (money will be split evenly between participants).

has been changed to:

The story can be written by one person, or a collaboration between two or more writers. If a collaboration wins, the money will be split evenly between the "Primary Participants". "Primary Participants" is defined as someone who was involved in the creation of the core portion of the story and who posted on this site. This excludes reactionary paragraphs (so-and-so was woken up by all the ruckus in the inn..) and people who may have been a major contributor on a different forum, but someone else copy/pasted their writing into the forums here.

----------------------------------------------

* Older tales written before this week are very very welcome at this time. There may be a point in the future where I may ask that people submit only newly written stories, but for now anything goes as long as it follow all of the other rules.

has been removed. Although an older tale here and there is fine, someone pasting the last 3 months of fiction written on their guild forum would not be eligible for the contest.

----------------------------------------------

* "Advertisements" posted in the Nether Legends forum will not be eligible for the contest. An "Advertisement" is defined as something that is posted as a statement of facts, such as a guild or event recruitment notice, or a "note tacked to the wall" type of post that is meant to inform the reader. This evaluation is admittedly fuzzy, and I will always try to err on the side of the writer. Something like the "WTB" storyline written by Fynne and others IS considered for the contest because it's open ended (allows others to get involved).

has been added.

Again, let me know if you have heart-burn about any of these changes.
