I found a nice write-up that summarizes things people who are planning to RP a worgen character might like to know.

Suni's Guide to RPing a Worgen (http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/1074087610)

Just a point of contention I was having with some people in OOC chat:

All playable Worgen do not necessarily have to be from Gilneas. Yes, this reignites that old debate, but I've always been the opinion of leeway where leeway is possible (IE: Not something like playing an Orc who is an original uncorrupted Maghar), and I point to a few facts:

1.) The "cure" for the Gilneans is simply to help their feral nature. They're no longer mindless beasts after taking it. Nowhere in the quests does it state that their ability to spread the Curse has been diminished in any way. And we can see from the starting quests (As well as the events with the Trappers in Grizzly Hills) that being bitten will turn you into a Worgen.

2.) Aside from the bites, one can become a Worgen by drinking Worgen Blood. Ivar Bloodfang and Darius Crowley are offering the ability to turn into Worgen by drinking the blood to Southshore refugees at Fenris Isle. This is because the Curse prevents being resurrected by Sylvanas' Val'kyr. Proof of this can be seen here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpDqb2iFvJg). As it states in the quest, the good majority of those Worgen you fight in the later-half of the Silverpine experience are Southshore refuges, not Gilneans.

3.) Death Knight Worgen aren't Gilnean.

I dont see any lore-backed reason why a Human of Stormwind could not get bitten or opt to drink the blood of a Gilnean Worgen and turn into one themselves. It's akin to the Death Knight debate that went on a while ago of whether or not your character took place in the battle for light's hope chapel. Because clearly all of the DKs in the world were not present for the battle, and the LK was raising DKs after that happened.

I've heard the idea of non-Gilnean (Who aren't DKs) Worgen thrown around by some people before and I'm contemplating doing something similar myself, so I wanted to mention this. Im sure there will be a few people on here just waiting to jump at the gun and fight me on this, but I've extensively researched the Worgen Starting Zone and unless they say something to the effect of: "Non-DK playable Worgen MUST be Gilnean," then the leeway will exist. And where there exists leeway, there exists opportunity for unique stories without stepping on the toes of the official lore.

I fear that regardless, you will have a fight ahead of you. Remember all of the people who said that DKs from Acherus absolutely had to have been in Naxxramas or they were a bad RPer who hadn't the slightest clue about the lore?

They're sharpening their knives for this one too.

I think they'll be going after my character for not being Shen'drelar as well, this is going to be a fun couple of weeks.

People can pretty much choose to do whatever they want, as long as they do it well. Necroxis, I'd probably add another one onto that list as well: Night Elf Druid who never leaves pack form.

Speaking of Night Elves and Worgen, if you haven't read the first issue of the Curse of the Worgen series, I would recommend it. It looks like they're using that format to delve deeply into a full explanation of the Worgen backstory, all the way back to the post-War of the Ancients Night Elves. Good stuff!

Uhhh, if your character didn't exist before TBC, I don't see why a mag'har can't come through the portal...

Though I hate to agree with the kid.
I'm with lurile on that one.

Well whatever about Maghar, maybe the example wasn't a proper one. I'll concede it.
