She wants to be down in the dumps? Let it be for a good fucking reason. Having low grades in math? Big fucking whoopie doo da day.

Make an elaborate metaphor between life and math, explaining that both contain problems, and both have solutions that can be achieved systematically, and emotion can set aside for things that merit joy and not angst.

Remind her of all the things she has to be grateful for. Begin making a list of blessings. I'm bipolar, and whenever I hit a "low" I look at my list of blessings. It really does help, considering I'm not a starving child in Somalia.
