So I've sorta fallen in love with this game.

Reccetear: An Item Shop's Tale (http://www.carpefulgur.com/recettear/)

http://www.carpefulgur.com/recettear/gameplay_1.jpg

You play the most adorable girl who's adventurer father has gone missing.

http://www.carpefulgur.com/recettear/recette.gif

Unfortunately, he's also left her a GINORMOUS amount of debt, and the finance agency who loaned him money is threatening to take their house. But since finance companies in this particular world aren't completely heartless, they send a fairy named Tear to help her figure out a way to pay back the money.

http://www.carpefulgur.com/recettear/tear.gif

She proposes that Reccete turns her home into an item shop, and the rest is history.

http://www.carpefulgur.com/recettear/gameplay_12.jpg

Now you can buy things from the Guildmaster or Market and sell in your store, or you can get an adventurer to go through a dungeon and collect items for you, because obviously the little girl and the fairy are not very good fighters. Then you can sell these items for 100% profit! This is important because you have to have a certain amount of money at the end of each week and if you don't... Game Over buddy. All the adventurers aren't available at first, some you have to do certain things in order to get them to join you.

http://www.carpefulgur.com/recettear/gameplay_4.jpg

Store atmosphere depends on what items you have on display and what your store looks like (Later you can redecorate your store). This effects clientele and how much money you can make. Eventually you can also expand the store and your display space.

http://www.carpefulgur.com/recettear/gameplay_6.jpg

Haggling is also very important. At first you can only haggle a little before the customer gets impatient, so you have to be careful not to make them angry. Ask for too much and they'll storm out! Each customer also has different buying habits as well. The little girls are cheapskates, while old men are more likely to buy at a higher price. If you sell a better weapon or armor to adventurers you know, they'll keep the equipment as their default items, so even if they get defeated in a dungeon they'll still have that Steel Sword +1 you sold to them when they wake up, so it may be a good idea to lower your prices for them.

Remember, Tear will come to collect the money at the end of each week. If you don't have it, Well...

So good luck!

Playable Demo! (http://www.carpefulgur.com/recettear/Recettear_Demo.exe)

The full game should be released the tenth of September. Definitely gonna have to be a purchase for me. :D

No Goblins?

BLASPHEMOUS!

Gnome-Like cuteness?

OUTRAGEOUS!

Subtle references to homelessness?

Amusing.

In any case, Outstanding concept.

I'm giving it a shot since I'm bored.

The dungeons are ROUGH to start with. And it's not really clear on what items restore health. I'm assuming food in general, but then I saw a sold-out item in the market for pills that increase HP so I'm kinda... unsure. XD

Yeah, you gotta be careful in dungeons. Those goblin guys that punch REALLY hurt.

Yayifications!

I've been playing this for the last few hours and it's pretty fun. The rodent boss at the end of the 10th forest floor was pretty cool.

Having everything sold out was pretty annoying, but that was probably because I did quite a bit of dungeon grinding. Speaking of the dungeon, can anyone explain how the combo system works? I got up to 7 streak on the first floor and some pretty awesome stuff was spilling out. Still not sure what exactly causes it though.

I just finished the demo. Whole lot of fun. According to the website, the game will hopefully be released on September 10 via Stardock's Impulse (http://www.impulsedriven.com/)(Essentially a Steam clone).

From what I can tell, you get a combos for hitting enemies without any missing swings in between hits. Combos start after you string two kills together, but on the higher levels they become increasingly difficult to get because of how many creatures dodge. Missing a single hit doesn't seem to lose you the combo, it seems to be two or three misses.

The reward is exponentially increasing XP. I'm not sure by what amount, but I was leveling WAY faster with around 6-8 combos.

And I played through all the dungeon levels in Harvest Moon DS.

Yeah, I barely managed to do it myself. The payments also get bigger each week apparently.

Was just a joke. :P Did they ever release that one in english? At one point people got wind of a nude scene or something and went nuts? Been a while since I've read anything on it. The concept seemed interesting enough anyways, though in practice seemed absurd.

The cool new term that fuses manliness and manhood bromigo. Don't you ever hang out with hipsters at the Hot Topic? You should know this.

It's like... morphinominal, or something.

I've only been surprised by sudden porn in a Japanese game once. I had watched Utawarerumono as an anime, and then found out it was based on a game. So it just happens to be a strategy game where you can seduce the female characters. Those things didn't happen in the show!

My manliehood is adept enough to survive just about anything and this looks like a potentially neat way to kill a few hours. I will give it a spin tomorrow and post thoughts and such.

Tch, if you really wanna test your manlihood, try the MMO LaTale, which is sort of like Maple Story but a lot better. You will have diabetes by the time you finish. If you already have diabetes then you get super diabetes.

Already mucked around on it a little. I play almost every mmorpg that gets any kind of advertising just to see how they work, what they try different (if anything), etc. I played this one korean one with these retarded cutesy cartoon graphics once that actually had some pretty cool ideas in regards to how to handle crafting and material farming.

I've been hunting for a new free MMO to play while my funds are low. I realized that I hate micropayments more than I thought I did. And that there are too many korean MMO's with bad engrish and grindy gameplay.

Honestly if you REALLY want to avoid long term payments (no mmo is really free, not one worth playing anyway) look at the upcoming games Vindictus or Guild Wars 2. Guild Wars 2 is going to same route as 1, you buy the box and that's it no monthly fee and it is looking fairly good to be honest. This is coming from a guy who doesn't like GW 1 by the way.

Meanwhile I played some of your Reccetear. I thought the dialog was sort of hit or miss. Some parts were pretty funny if you get the layers of japanese humor especially when it comes to cute underage girls running around dungeons with men. However it is much harder than I actually expected.

For one thing it is totally unrealistic on it's selling. 130% is the normal mark up? What have they been smoking? 150% in the real world is almost a giveaway from most people. The only exception is giants like wal mart who sell such an avalanche of crap it is okay if they only make 20-30% a sale.

That and holy crap the dungeons are not nice. They go on some time and your little first adventurer dude Louie can get like 2-3 shot by anything on floor 3 or more. When you get stuck in a trap like every 2 seconds it gives me demon's souls flashbacks "make no mistake or die". That and it didn't properly explain your dude only needs healing items not gear. I thought he would need to be loaded up with loot but all the stuff I bought for him was mostly a waste.

That said successful dungeon runs are basically required to meet your goal. Buying low and selling high on what is available in the stores won't cut it.

Didn't care for it? That's actually a first. :P Everyone I know that's played it loves it. Yeah, those dungeon can be brutal though... I learned very quickly to pick my fights. Avoid those goblin bastards. Those Falcon PUUUUNNNNCCCHHHH attacks they do hurt. I can't stress it enough.

The insects in the Jade Forest are annoying too if you don't get rid of them quick like.

No it was fine and fun enough. Just not exactly what I expected. I was figuring it would play mostly like ragnarok online and be much less actiony and more rpg'ish. I have a hard time passing enemies I have a "must kill em all" mindset.
