An ancient creature of awesome beauty scooped up its unsuspecting prey. It was an ancient proto drake, it's size unrivaled in the skies of Northrend. Its wingspan was even greater than that of Thorim's great steed. The immense protodrake opened its great maw and devoured the creature whole. The creature lifted off once more, leaving behind nothing more but large footprints and blood stained snow. But it was not alone...

Brokkir Thunderbeard and his ragtag band of dragon hunters took the the skies the moment they spotted their quarry. The great beast had been sighted many times over the past months, but it had constantly eluded their traps, now it was flying directly into one.

The wildhammer dwarf grasped the bare back of his great gryphon, Razortalon, and steered it directly towards the prey. His stormhammer and battleaxe were both strapped to his sides and ready to be unleashed upon his foe.

"Logan, capture the beasts attention and draw it towards the harpoons!" Brokkir yelled to his nearest comrade. The Ironforge Dwarf nodded before hitting the turbo on his gyrocopter.

The flying machine launched past the great beast, firing a volley of shots as it passed by. The ancient dragon roared before turning to take chase. It roared, fire building up in its maw before launching it at the flying machine. Logan expertly dodged the first shot, just barely.

Brokkir raised his stormhammer and launched a bolt of lightning into the air. The signal was given, and the harpoons launched. Four harpoons flew through the air directly at the ancient dragon.

The dragon twisted through the air, dodging around two of the spears, but two hit him directly. One tore through a wing, the other directly through his neck. The dragon roared in pain and twisted some more, struggling to stay in the air.

The cannons that had landed their shots were already attempting to draw their prey in, but the colossal beast would not surrender. It twisted violently once more, wrenching one of the cannons free from the earth it had been rooted in. The gunner was sent plummeting down the mountain slopes.

The dragon twisted its head and broke the harpoon from its wing like a twig before turning to the other cannon that had landed a blow. It charged fire within its maw before launching it directly at the cannon. The gunner moved to distance himself from the cannon, but was too slow. The dragon bit down on the chain and broke it as well. Now free the dragon moved to flee from the trap, just as Logan moved to make a second run at the beast.

Logan's turbo charged flying machine flew directly at the dragon as it began to elevate, he pressed down on the triggers of his cannons. A volley of bullets pelted the dragon, doing little other than irritating the beast. The dragon turned at Logan once more before launching another blast. This time Logan wasn't so lucky, his flying machine fell from the air a charred and twisted mess.

Brokkir cursed as he circled the field, banking to intercept the dragon. His quarry would not escape him again. The other hunters that still yet lived were already giving up and fleeing, but Brokkir had a score to settle. Razortalon roared, fearful of the beast the dwarf was forcing it after. Brokkir comforted his companion, running his fingers through its feathers.

Though the dragon was large, the gryphon was much faster, and easily caught up to the prey. The dragon was not simply going to let Brokkir catch it, however, and swiped at him with his wings. Razortalon dodged the blow, just barely.

Brokkir raised his stormhammer and swung it at the great beast, a bolt of lightning formed and closed the distance between the two, catching the dragons attention. The dragon twisted in the air, already charging a blast within its maw. It fired it directly at Brokkir, Razortalon banked once more narrowly dodging the blast.

The dragon roared in frustration before swooping down after the dwarf. Brokkir patted Razortalon once more before standing on the gryphon's back. As the dragon swooped towards them the gryphon rose to the sky. Brokkir launched himself off his steed just as the dragon passed below them.

The wind rushed past the dragon hunter as he fell, his outstretched hand barely grasping a plate on the back of the dragon's tail. The dragon roared, twisting and turning, trying to remove Brokkir from its hide. The dwarf held on tightly, refusing to be launched into the rocky mountains below them.

As the dragon calmed slightly Brokkir moved his free hand to the next scale, moving himself up the back of the dragon slowly. Each time the dragon would tire he would move another scale, only to grab on tightly as the dragon twisted to remove him.

Eventually Brokkir was directly in the center of the beast's back, and where there had only been scales there was now a great mane. Brokkir moved through the mane towards the beast's damaged wing. He unlatched his battleaxe from his belt and raised it, bringing it down hard onto the boney part of the wing, cutting through muscle and cracking bone.

The dragon roared once more, aiming towards the sky and attempting to remove Brokkir from the sudden change in direction. The dwarf held on tightly as the dragon tired once more and leveled out. He brought the axe down on the wound once more. The dragon twisted in the air and then dove directly towards the ground. Brokkir nearly lost his grip, but twisted his arm in a clump of fur at the last second.

The dragon leveled out once more before banking left. Brokkir brought the axe down on the wound a final time. He heard the final crack as the bone fully broke under the weight, and the muscle snapped. The wing twisted but would not flap, the dragon could no longer keep itself in the air. Its other wing tried to compensate but the dragon quickly dove out of control.

It slammed into the mountainside, launching Brokkir from its back and into the sharp rocks, the dwarf barely managed to grab hold of a large rock before he fell out of control himself. He looked down and saw no sign of the ancient proto drake.

The dragon hunter cursed as he pulled himself up onto the nearest cliff and caught his breathe. He looked down once more but couldn't find any sign of the proto drake. He spit off the side of the mountain, had it eluded him again?

Brokkir looked down as some pebbles rolled past his feet, he turned around to see the immense dragon latched onto the side of the mountain above him, it roared as their eyes met. The dragon launched itself down at the dwarf, letting out a battle roar.

Brokkir roared back at the dragon as he took a step back off the cliff. The dragon launched past him down the slope but quicky turned to meet the dragonhunter. Brokkir was already back upon the cliff with his stormhammer raised in the air, his battle axe ready in the other hand.

"Thorim, heed my call!" Brokkir yelled at the sky.

The dragon began to charge a firebolt in his mouth as the clouds began to turn gray above. The clouds twisted into a mealstrom above Brokkir and a large bolt of lightning struck his stormhammer.

The dragon moved first, launching the fireblast up at the dwarf. The dragonhunter dodged the blast, rolling to the edge of the cliff as it flew past him. Brokkir then launched the full power of the storm at the dragon. An immense lightning bolt traveled down the mountain and struck the dragon directly in the skull.

It roared in pain as it lost its grip on the mountainside and began to slide down the steep slope It tumbled down the endless mountain below the cover of clouds, and out of the sight of Brokkir.

The dwarf whistled for his gryphon companion, Razortalon answered his call immediately. The gryphon dove towards the dwarf and hovered in front of him. Brokkir jumped from the cliff and landed on the back of his gryphon, immediately instructing it to dive after the dragon.
