Its an english news report about WoW and its addiction on this kid. His mother claims that he plays up to 16hrs a day. He says that the most he's played is 12hrs and that i can stop when ever he wants.
The news reporter does mention of a kid who committed suicide afte rplaying 36hrs straight. This isnt uncommon amoung addicted MMO players to tell you the truth. I saw a report long ago about Everquest, liek 3-4yrs ago about addiction to EQ. This one guy committed suicide and when his mother came to teh house a few days later, he was still logged onto his character with his head on the keyboard and a shotgun near by ((and of course, blood everywhere...)). SO the reason the wow addict killed himself is because , liek every adict, the game becomes life and when things go wrong, they get pissed and stressed, that kid didnt get into an elite guild and im guessing he felt life was over for him and he killed himself.
Its all explained in the news report.
Watch it, its interesting, something all should see cause it could very well happen to you too.

It is intersting, but I think the mother in that clip can take more control over the situation. He isn't studying or working? Show him the door, or the college prospectus. Letting him live there like a child with not accountability for his actions doesn't do him any favours.
What is the usual age for Aussies to move out of home? In the UK you can leave school and home at 16, but I know in America you need to be in school and at home until 18. If Oz is like the US, why isn't he at school, and if it is like the UK, why isn't he working?
Also interesting, they mentioned "internet additction" as opposed to "MMO addiction" or "gaming addiction". I know professional people who get home and spend the evening browsing, posting on forums. I think it is easy to blur "addiction" with "passtime". I don't think anyone would accuse anyone of being a television addict these days, at least not with any cause for concern-- but we used to. I think we are seeing a shift from TV to the internet for a lot of people.
But of course, 16 hours is far too much. If he had support getting a job or getting back into education I think he could get things under control.

I agree, and plus, who was paying for the game if he didn't have a job??

If he committed suicide, he had other mental problems besides addiction.

It isn't the game that causes these players to commit suicide. It is thier lifestyles. No one in thier right mind can die playing a video game and that being thier only problem. Its physically impossible. This is the whole issue of that douchebag and his efforts to ban videogames (god what the hell is his name?). While its sad that people die while engrossed within these addictions....it is not BECAUSE of the addictions that they die. And besides, that damn mother is stupid for not trying to control the situation. Its this kind of shit that pisses me off X.x

If it wasn't video games; it'd be something else.

mabey when the little bastard dropped out of school the mother should have done something... just mabey.
Note how she introduced World of Warcraft as a "violent" video game. Warcraft is child's play in terms of video game violence.
I love the sensationalism of mainstream news.

Remember WC2, and how you could make the blood appear green so it wouldn't upset children as much? lol... priceless!

Actually the kid blew his head off with a shotgun because his EQ account was hacked.
The Legend goes that it was on Thanksgiving, but take that with a grain of salt. It's far too late (happened in late 98-99), so it's gonna be hard to look such a thing up nowadays.
SOE was real quiet about it for the longest time. The press was really going to throw a shit storm about it. It worked though, their silence on the issue really just blew on by, because it was really an issue of parental control and an unsafe living condition (firearms not locked up, firearms being near live ammunition), with someone that was clearly mentally unstable.
As much as *everyone* has come to hate SOE, they rightfully walked away from this. I'd also like to note that this was right after SOE bought the EQ Franchise from Verant, it's original publisher and server operator.

did u all see how he acted american on teamspeak haha :P
anyways, that repoorter showed some bias, as they all do.
So yeah, it is kinda an attack on MMO's as being the cause of "no life" in our youth and that MMO's cause suicides
