(( I think some of you might come directly to the forums instead of going through the front news page, so I wanted to cross post this here so everyone knows about it))
Hey all.
This coming week we'll be offering 20G payout instead of the standard payout due to the generousness of last week's winner Lyona.
She probably explains better than I could:
From Lyona-
"I would like to thank everyone who submitted a story this week and especially everyone who voted for me. There were a lot of very good submissions this week especially and can't believe I won over such stiff competition. No accounting for taste I guess .
As much as I would enjoy spending 10g, I think I would enjoy seeing even more RP going on in Twisting Nether. So I am donating the prize money to next weeks competition, bringing the total prize up to 20g for next weeks winner. Seeing as how this was my first submission ever, I am hoping this will bring even more creativity out of hiding and promote more RP across the server.
So get out there! Create some mischief, take the fight to the enemy, discover new lands, and have some epic adventures. Then get back here and write 'em down for the rest of us to enjoy. Can't wait to see next weeks submissions!
xxxooo,
Lyona "
So.. consider this a trial run. I'm kinda hesitant about upping the pot. The reason I picked 10 gold initially was it seemed to strike the right balance between a "useful" amount of money but not so extravagent that people would start "cheating" to win.
I also don't want people to start feeling obligated to pass on the prize money. I'm paying a prize for the contest because I think if you went to the effort to write a great story and weren't afraid to share it with the community, you should be rewarded for it. Plus I hope it provides some of you procrastinators a reason to write the story in your head "today" as opposed to "tomorrow".
The tales we are telling now will hopefully be read by new people just joining the server in the next year or even two years down the road. I suspect the next "big thing" will come out either this summer or fall and we'll lose a lot of folk. The tales you are telling now will become legend. They will make newcomers long for the good old days when paladins were tortured and certain taurens had evil demon legs.
So keep writing. If you've been putting off that special story for a better time to write it, this week's upped prize money will hopefully give you the impetus to get it done before Monday.
Good luck all!
