At the behest of some friends, I've gone and made a new thread. Yippee. Uh... yeah, to start it off, here's my Paladin, looking way more evil and sexy than she ever should. Split personality? -Shrugs- Dunno.

You did a fantastic job in the homage of the eyes from the source picture of the cat. I would've expected some more whiskers though.

Nice coloring, should look good when you add shading and highlights, but it could do without the passive-aggressive undertones.

Yay. Done... Until I hate it again. Border flowers were made using a brush from... something, I don't remember. I could dredge it up if needed.

Oh, and I have the lineart too, if anyone would like it.

Hmm... the strap on her right leg is incorrect. It's the same as the one on her left leg (currently) whereas it should be the opposite; the under should be the over.
Yes, I know my terminology is weird and wrong. I like the depiction of characters in less-than-epic gear though; it gets boring when all everyone ever has is the super nice stuff, but that's my own personal pet peeve (or, in this case, compliment :P ).
Zephyr
01-26-2010, 08:19 PM
The strap thing? Yeah, that was just me being lazy. Anyway, I decided to jump off the deep end, demanded my friend hold still for a screenshot so that I might attempt to draw him. Yes, that's right. I said "him". After much flailing and QQing about male anatomy, as well as using the program Poser for a reference in some areas, I finally did it. I drawed a boy. O_o
There are some quirks in his armor, like a lack of symmetry in some spots, and certain detail that I neglected, but other than that, I think I matched his armor pretty well... but his belt looks funny. >_> Doubt I'm going to color this. I foam at the mouth just thinking about it.
Also, I didn't really think it was worth the effort to clean up the screen shot bit. Yeah, lazy. I know.

Great art, But Is it just me, or is the paladin in that screenie incredibly stubby-short?
Cant wait to see these colored, if theyre going to be. They're spiffeh
Zephyr
01-30-2010, 05:51 PM
I really didn't have any intention to color the pally... It was more a practice exercise... As for the Orc lady? We'll see if I post the colored version. I'll have to ask the person I'm doing it for, though I doubt he'll have a problem with it. ^^

Good to see you back!
On that orc, looks good, a notable problem being that her feet seem to be 'floating' rather than standing, I'd level them out a bit.
Taminda
01-30-2010, 10:50 PM
She does seem to be in her tippy-toes, which is kind of cute. Like Yat said, maybe flatten them a bit or have one pointed towards the viewer to make her weight seem more naturally distributed.
I can't wait to see it colored!
Zephyr
01-30-2010, 11:01 PM
Yeah, her feet are odd. I meant to have it so that background foot was on her toes a bit, as if she was halted mid-stride by a sound or something. I've got the background in there, and now it doesn't look so odd, I don't think. I tried redrawing her feet, but every attempt ended up.... odd, so I'm gonna leave them as-is XD
Zephyr

Zomg! Opinion time! So, I did a really pretty background thing, which surprised me, because I fail ever-so-epically at backgrounds... but the problem was, after I did the nifty background, I don't feel like the lineart style that I picked up really fits. So... here's my typical style, and here's the easy way... Which looks better?
Keep in mind of course that I have to add in shadows, both on the background, and on the characters.

Hmm...something just seems off. Maybe I'm just being weird, and I by no means profess to have an artistic eye: That said, it just feels to me like the background and the characters don't match up quite right, like they are two subtly different styles.
Though I -love- the shading you did on the orc.
Zephyr
02-01-2010, 01:10 PM
They don't match up... That was my original issue. It's the lines that throw it off, but eh... The person wanted it that way, so who am I to question?
Oh and Animazement? Yeah, I just checked and their Artist's Alley is closed already -_-

02-05-2010, 06:04 PM
So, I've decided to start working on a -huge- series of prints since my printer will be functioning again soon. There will be 20 total images, 10 for Alliance, and 10 for Horde. Each image will be a different class, and within each class image will be both a male and female of a random applicable race. I balanced it out to both challenge myself, and to appeal to as many people as possible. All races are used equally, so no Elf domination, lawl.
I've already got the combinations planned out, and it goes like this:
Alliance
Death Knight -- Male Gnome / Female Night Elf
Druid -- Male Night Elf / Female Night Elf
Hunter -- Male Dwarf / Female Night Elf
Mage -- Male Human / Female Gnome
Paladin -- Male Draenei / Female Dwarf
Warrior -- Male Gnome / Female Draenei
Warlock -- Male Gnome / Female Human
Rogue -- Male Human / Female Dwarf
Shaman -- Male Draenei / Female Draenei
Priest -- Male Dwarf / Female Human
Horde
Death Knight -- Male Troll / Female Orc
Druid -- Male Tauren / Female Tauren
Hunter -- Male Orc / Female Tauren
Mage -- Male Troll / Female Forsaken
Paladin -- Male Blood Elf / Female Blood Elf
Warrior -- Male Tauren / Female Troll
Warlock -- Male Forsaken / Female Blood Elf
Rogue -- Male Forsaken / Female Orc
Shaman -- Male Orc / Female Troll
Priest -- Male Blood Elf / Female Forsaken
They're all gonna be in nifty poses and stuff. It's gonna take forever, but it's a personal challenge, and I have to do it! I've started working on the Alliance Death Knight pair. I'm putting the Gnome on a Deathcharger... I've since learned I'm completely fail at drawing horses, so I just stared at the in-game Deathcharger as I drew... and I came up with this:
http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/AllianceDKs.jpg
I'm probably gonna change up his armor a little bit. We'll see how it goes.
Zephyr

Wheeee! Been working on that Alliance DK picture in between uber procrastination. I've since fallen in love with drawing t10. And I love the model of boots that matches the t10 set. They're all like "nomnomnom"... So awesome. I think I got the proportions right... well, sorta. The Night Elf's legs aren't long enough, I don't think. Mmm. Don't know if I wanna fix it. Anyway, lots of texture and nifty things to come. Woot.

My contrast must be fucked because I see a white background with faint lines... that make shapes I can't see.
Zephyr
02-27-2010, 02:38 AM
Fixed both the darkness of the lines and shortened everything from the hips down. It looks better now that her legs are shorter.... but... Her legs look oddly positioned... or maybe it's just me... I think she's off-balance because of the way her legs are and stuff >_> I also think I should shorten the upper part of her leg and lengthen the lower part. It just seems like it would fit better, especially since I'm not necessarily working with 'human' proportions at this point. Perhaps I'll go and try drawing Tauren legs in various poses XD

Well Zeph, I really like your torso and shoulders. She's got a beautiful stout torso. The two places I would suggest taking a look at would be her arms (her arms look too long) and her hips (the skirt doesn't suggest a volume to her hips.) Perhaps arching the skirt out will show the volume of her hips or backside and tucking her elbows in would suggest a proper length.
Zephyr
03-09-2010, 04:57 AM
I'll definitely work on her arms, though I'm not so sure about the skirt. I kinda like it the way it is. Either way I'm very pleased with how the sketchy came out because frankly the proportions scared the hell outta me to begin with. This picture might be something that I visit in the future and finish. Who knows? :3

I decided to skip into your art thread today, and I wanted to put up some .. critique? I suppose. Your dwarf, posted before the talbuk, the image itself is very nice. I enjoy the clothing and pose. But something feels off. Almost staring at a picture drawn of a cardboard cutout. Somehow her upper half all seems.. flat? I dont really know how you'd go about fixing it, to be completely honest. But i'd see about working on depth and dimension. Sometimes all a picture really needs to stand out is some perspective. :D

I tend to not really focus too much on depth until I ink out my lineart or begin color work on the images. I am completely inept at pencil style shading and depth and understand completely that it's something I -really- need to work on. I intend on working at some point on realistic pencil sketch type works because to be honest it's something I've never done. I sort of started straight from anime, and often when doing that you lose out on a LOT of those foundation things.
All that being said, I do completely appreciate the critique, as that's one thing that hasn't been pointed out to me before. It helps a lot ^^

I'm working on serious shading. I feel like lately my shading style hasn't really been fitting the style of drawing I've been doing. So, I'm layering my shadows... Lots and lots and lots of layers. It's all so very tedious.
I'm working on the wings now. I've got at least one more layer of shadowing planned, and I'll also be giving them texture to make the feathers seem more like feathers. I really like the way they're turning out so far.
I'm not so sure about the highlighting style for the hair. I may go back and redo it the way I normally do my hair if I find out that I don't like it after I shade it. After all the shading I'll be making her dirty, scratched up, and bloody, which will be interesting because I've never tried that before. If ya haven't figured it out yet, the girl who commissioned me for this is looking for that "fallen angel" look. The giant blob of yellow on the right is my light source thingy. Yay.
Anyway, any critique would be SUPER appreciated!

Fingerpainting. Nuff said.
No, really? Background's s'posed to be like somewhere random in the Netherstorm, like a floating rock, and quite frankly the thought of trying to draw it scares the crap outta me... so I'm putting it off -_-
Anyway, she's reaching for this random beam of light... yeah. Also... Upon staring at the work in progress... the reaching hand needs more definition through shading. It sorta looks like a pale mass.... can't really make out the fingers. Hmm....

The thing to remember about hair is that it's not pasted on, unless it's a very poorly made wig. Hair originates from somewhere.
It springs from roots, and different hair has different properties, even at the roots, it could really 'spring' (as in go up) quite far, or it could be nearly flat. But it ALWAYS conforms to the shape of the head when it moves towards the scalp - you can puff it out, but unless you take a sledgehammer and get creative, hair won't shrink or deform the head.
If you mean for details... I'm not sure really. Just look at some photos, try drawing exactly what you see, and then test different ways of abbreviating it - stippling, short lines over one another, a bunch of long wavy lines, test directions, etc...

That looks absolutely fantastic! I love the bruised wings and body. Just how dirty and bloody it is... you can really see it. There's so much detail in the feathers of the wings, it really shows. Wish I could zoom in for more

So. I've been working on a major project commission thing. It's a naked chick, so all pictures will be NSFW links. I've been saving everything in steps, so that I can show people just how I do my commissions and such. Fun stuff. After much bargaining with the person, they've allowed me to post all of my progress steps, so yay! I'ma share them with everyone! :D
Step 1: To start, the person wasn't exactly sure what they wanted for poses and such. All they knew was that they wanted something sexy, probably lying down, so I sketched out a whole crapton of poses (24, to be precise) for them to choose from. I gave them the option of picking a maximum of 5 for me to build on, and we would eliminate as we went along.
Link: Step 1 (http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Step1.jpg)
Step 2: They narrowed it down to 3 poses, numbers 2, 7, and 11. I added further detail to those three sketches and made them spiffier.
Link: Step 2 (http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Step2.jpg)
Step 3: The person decided that they didn't really want her head facing up, they preferred her facing the viewer, so I adjusted the angle of her head.
Link: Step 3 (http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Step3.jpg)
Step 4: Not really too much changed here. We decided clothing-wise, all she would wear was panties.
Link: Step 4 (http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Step4.jpg)
Step 5: Sketched in ribbons and pearls to add some decoration to the image. I also narrowed out her back in pose 2 and 3. Her back stuck out too far and seemed too broad for my liking.
Link: Step 5 (http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Step5.jpg)
Step 6: Worked out the lineart and such. Right about this point the person decided that they wanted to keep all three images and make them each a separate wallpaper, so I made a deal with them about that. (That's actually how I got them to let me post this stuff ^^)
Link: Step 6 (http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Step6.jpg)
Step 7: Finalized the lineart. The person decided that she really only needed panties in the first pose. I also added more hair to the head of number 3, and I fixed the eyes on both 1 and 3.
Link: Step 7 (http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Step7.jpg)
Currently I'm working on the coloring and shading and such. Fun stuff.

Soooo... technically this doesn't belong here, but... Eh. It's my thread, and I just had to share the adorableness, yet I don't really wanna create a new thread in a different section because I kinda like to keep my existence limited to the art area XD.
Also, I'll be kinda super busy for the next week because of my job at Wal-mart scheduling me for absolutely ridiculous hours, so I won't be posting art for a short bit. Anyway. Meet Pandora, my little baby. I just got her tonight and I had to share the adorableness with the world.

Okay! Update on the naked ribbon lady!
Links are NSFW, just like before!
Alright so, we were last at step 7...
Step 8: Yay for color! Started coloring and shading her skin and the ribbons. Fun stuff.
Link: Step 8 (http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Step8.jpg)
Step 9: More shading, more highlighting. I also bronzed out her skin tone a bit and added in a bit of texture to make it look more realistic. Laid out the color for her eyes as well.
Link: Step 9 (http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Step9.jpg)
Step 10: Same drill. Laid out the colors for her choker/panties and her hair as well. Made the ribbon all shiny, and at the request of the person who commissioned me, I made her skintone slightly less bronze. It's a subtle change, but I think it made a big difference.
Link: Step 10 (http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Step10.jpg)
Step 11 (Where I'm currently at): Gave her hair a... hairlike(?) texture as well as shaded and highlighted. Gave her glowy eyes, made the choker shiny like the ribbons, and laid out the placement of the pearls. Next I'ma shade/highlight those and work on a background of some such.
Link: Step 11 (http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Step11.jpg)
Hopefully I'll finish this soon. I have an anime convention coming up, and I'm supposed to be drawing up some crap for the art auction there, but... I don't know. I still don't even know what I wanna draw, and the convention is June 11-13. Bleah.
Until next time!

Yay! I finally got a new tablet, and I finally finished my work! So, I'm gonna continue on from step 11! As before, all links are NSFW.
Step 12: Added earrings and a belly ring. That was fun. Not much changed here aside from that.
Link: Step 12 (http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Step12.jpg)
Step 13: Made the pearls all shiny and round-looking by adding highlights and some shading. I also changed the color just slightly.
Link: Step 13 (http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Step13.jpg)
Step 14: Changed some tiny details, nothing big, and made the earrings more antique, as well.
Link: Step 14 (http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Step14.jpg)
Step 15: Positioned each character image for a wallpaper, nothing serious.
Link: Step 15-1 (http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Step15-1.jpg), Step 15-2 (http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Step15-2.jpg), Step 15-3 (http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Step15-3.jpg)

I'm impressed that I finished so quickly. I did the entire thing on Livestream today. It was great. So. The reason for two versions? Well. While I was working on it, I contemplated dirt and blood, but I wasn't sure... My Livestream viewers were pretty sure though. They screamed "MOAR BLOOD! MOAR BLOOD!" I kinda think I overdid the blood and dirt, but, oh well. Can never me enough blood, right? But anyway, for the sake of my sanity, I just had to save the unbloodied version. I'm not sure which I like more. Perhaps I'll leave that to you guys...

Nicely done! Your best work yet. As you proceed with future pieces, I would start to think about how light affects your settings and environments - the shiney OMUHGAWD light effect around her feet would illuminate the scene too, if only just the ground beneath it a little bit.
And the reason your viewers probably wanted more blood is because that version looks better - not because it's blood, but because it has more contrast. when you have an incredibly stark light source such as the one that's flooding your paladin here, many areas are in brilliant light, and others in deep, DEEP shadow. The blood adds that to the hair and the legs, and it also adds texture, creating a richer visual experience. That doesn't mean every pic you make needs MOAR BLOOD, just contrast and texture to draw your viewer in.

Yeah, I'm still working on the concept of backgrounds and the like. I'm still even befuddled with things like vanishing points and perspectives. I'z trying -_-

I was thinking about that as I was adding in the shinies. I'm glad you mentioned it and pointed it out. It was tricky working on this last night because of this lovely glare on my screen. I probably will go back and darken the shadows a bit, at least on the clean one. It needs it.
This is actually a second take on this pose. The original (http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Aura7.jpg) was... lacking in many aspects, so I went back and reworked her entire outfit. I'm much happier now with the final product. And to be quite honest, I'm surprised the background turned out as well as it did.

So am I. Perspective is a bitch. As far as backgrounds go, the best rule when trying to create a believable setting and environment (I don't use the word background as much because it implies that everything is behind the character, and the character is the foreground - this is not and should not always be the case, though sometimes it can be) is that develop both the environment and the character alongside one another - I'm not sure what your process is, but if it's ink > flat > shade, then try flatting everything, then shading the character a bit, the setting a bit, back and forth, ad nauseum, it will feel as though the character is truly in the environment and you will have developed it with just as much care and love. It'll take longer, but hey, the product will be better. If you already do this, well hey, I got nothin except my original comment. XD

Yeah, the armor in the blood version just looks alot more like... well, armor. It's got some rust, some wear to it. The other one is shiney, but not shiney enough or stark enough to convince me that it's untarnished metal, other than it's shape and placement. I'm not a digital painter so I can't be like "HERE'S HOW YOU PAINT METAL WITH TEH PHOTOSHAWPZ" but you might try looking around for tips and tutorials on making metal look real. Shit, ask Taminda. She does good metal.
Again, nice work. It's definitely eclipsed everything you've done up to this point by a fair margin.

I've done the screen sharing before when I was working on a commission for someone, just to show what I was doing and to allow them to add their opinions as I was working. It's also great if I'm unsure about colors and that sort of thing. The only thing I don't like about Livestream is that if I'm in vent and talking to someone, there's a lag between my talking and the video stream... So if I'm showing something, It's like:
"What do you think about this emblem thingy here?...."
"Err.... what emblem thing? Zoom in on it?"
-waits 5 more seconds-
"Oh that thing? It's okay but..."
One could imagine it's a little annoying. But overall I like doing it. I mean, I get all nervous and crap, but I think it does drive me to be a better artist, having people scrutinize EVERY SINGLE TEENIE BRUSH STROKE.
I'll probably start mentioning on DeviantArt journals when I'm Livestreaming whenever I get back to drawing. My DA's VampiraEcho.DeviantArt.com if any of you don't have it, that way you can be posted if you're interested in that sort of thing. I'm gonna work on the vent server bit, I think. I like a more interactive audience :3
But yeah. Thanks for all the support and stuff! :D

So haven't been in the most artsy of moods... started a couple projects only to end up scrapping them. I can't seem to get anything to a satisfactory start, so I give up and (eventually) start something else. I've also been preoccupied with getting my priest to 80 and now getting her geared. In any event, I have been dabbling in some things here and there, so I guess I'll share, since I haven't posted anything in about a month's time.
To start, I was inspired by this one starter robe (http://www.wowhead.com/item=23322). It's the Draenei priest one. So yeah. I drew a blood elf chick in a similar sorta robe. Sorta. I didn't expect her hair to be that yellow... it just happened. I don't even know that the front/back view matches that well, but I'm not really putting a ton of effort into this. I suspect I'll be scrapping it in the near future.
http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Aura1-5.jpg
I think her eyes are too far apart. Anyway. Another blood elf thing... Inspired by some character description I read somewhere. I don't even remember the name, it just stuck. Her hair needs a total overhaul, but I'll get around to that... one of these days XD. I was also intending to throw in more detail in the form of jewelry, armor... something... I'm just not entirely sure where I wanna go with this.
http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Laecloseup.jpg
This last one was a birthday present for my ex... one that I STILL haven't finished and probably never will because... well... we're not on the best of terms now... Buut, it was starting to look kinda nifty, so I hope that I will one day finish it. The background here is from some DeviantArt stock. I can provide links if anyone wants. Also. I hate drawing this hairstyle. And he looks girly... even with the goatee XD

well your art is amazing, and your lack of effort on the first of these three most recent pictures would be better then my best XD

You know how much I love your work. The middle one is especially good. I hope you finish it. The only really thing that I see is that the top Elf has floaty eyes. Her hair is falling behind them.
So . . . when are you doing the arts for PG? <3

I left her eyes "floaty" because there's a solid chance I'll be moving them... They look too far apart XD
Anyway, yeah, I know I still gotta do the picture for PG, I've just been procrastinating because I'm a loser and... yeah... I'll get on that, I promise...

I haven't posted in awhile, so I thought I'd toss something up here. It's not TECHNICALLY done, I still have some cleaning up to do, but I can't quite bring myself to do that bit.
So here it is.

So, I've been playing around with some different avenues of creativity, and I've decided to learn how to make dread falls. They're basically multi-colored dreads that tie into your hair and look really nifty. It's a raver/goth sorta thing. I guess it's considered art, so I wanted to share.
http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Mobile%20Uploads/Photo-0227-1.jpg
Here's a couple individual dreads from a set I'm working on. They're actually red, my phone's camera is just too bad.
http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Mobile%20Uploads/downsize-2.jpg
This is a better picture of my friend modeling one of the red/black falls. It wasn't intended to be a solo fall, usually this would be a pigtail, so it's rather thin.

Yay cotton candy colors! These look nifty in a blacklight.

This is what the tops look like before they get mounted on elastic.
Anyway, there have been lots of burnt fingers, but I think they're rather nifty. I think I'm going to open a shop on Etsy or something, because I'm getting really good.

o_O Could you perhaps...make a set of teal and black ones with LED/Fluo fibers in them? I'd gladly pay through the nose for them.

Totally! Link me to the fibers through PM so I can see what they look like, and I can totally get those done for you. We can discuss pricing and stuff there ^^

I'm almost finished with another set. This set actually is waiting on more hair to come in for me to finish it. They're a little bit trickier because they're thinner, and they're heavier. Forgive the horrid pictures.

http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/SANY1169-1.jpg
You can see the hair underneath, which is exactly why it needs more dreads. I'll be putting lavender into it. I might even have to pin them into place.
http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/SANY1170-1.jpg
REALLY freaking long... They get caught in EVERYTHING.
http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/SANY1174-1.jpg
This is a bad picture of what they look like in a black light. Apparently blacklight photography is harder than I thought. Though they're not obnoxiously glowy, they look brighter than this.
A full set at this length might cost about $200 (assuming they were as full as they need to be... might take a bit more hair), depending upon the types of patterns and the number of colors and the like. I'm not sure I like that price though. It seems like WAY too much, even despite my burnt and raw fingers >_>

Yeah, my roommate and I made matching sorta tutu-things... I'm part of the volunteering staff at this gaming place in our little town (hence the painting on the wall on the right side of the pictures), and they were doing a Halloween party thing... So I grabbed what I had because I'm a TERRIBLE planner.

I made another set of dreads, so last minute it wasn't even funny. I was literally finishing them in the hotel room at Nekocon. >_>
Plus it's also a legitimate excuse to post an adorable picture!

No, I didn't make the costume. I'm not that crafty with fabrics. ;_;

Are those sewn in?
Nuh-uh. They have elastic threaded through them so I can basically tie them onto buns. Perma-dreads are just... well, I couldn't do them. But I do like the ability to change the colors of my hair with such ease. Temporary hair things work for me.

So, I've had this picture for a little while, I just neglected to post it because... well... I kinda forgot. I actually curled the long cotton-candy looking dreads for Nekocon, and it made them look really nifty. :D
So here's a pic!
http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo132/vampiraecho/Nekocon%202010/NekoconDisk02_9SC7637.jpg
Those ears and that headband REFUSED to stay in place.
I'm also a little mad at myself. I ended up shoving them in a bag afterwards, and I still haven't taken them out. They're not so curly now. I'll either make some attempt to re-curl them, or I might just leave them in that bag forever. I've learned for next time that these need to be stored hanging from something.

So, I've been working on something in my down time. It's a huge picture, involving 11 characters. I wasn't going to post any WIP pictures, but since it's going to take me so freaking long, I figure I can post a little something for now :3

I get bored and uninspired when it comes to artsing some times, and when that happens, everything I draw is uninspired and repetitive. When that happens, I try to find ways to get me to draw something I wouldn't normally. My roommate is always on Gaia Online, and she told me that I should open up a shop or something. That wasn't exactly on my list of things to do, but I did decide to do an art auction for a silly currency that I'd never use and will likely just end up giving to my roommate. At least it was a fair amount. I was very specific in what I would not do, and what sort of references I needed, and yet it seemed that everyone ignored my directions and I was left with a client that frustrated me to no end. I felt like she didn't even know anything about her own character. It's hard to draw something when you don't know what you're drawing. It's even harder when your CLIENT doesn't even seem to know what they look like. Anyway, I wanted a sort of unique character to draw, and yet this person didn't seem to know any of the details. I literally had nothing to work with aside from the fact that she wanted her to be gothic lolita/punky with lots of accessories, black hair with purple streaks, green eyes, and she showed me a pair of boots that she really wanted the character to have. I was at a loss. I didn't know if she was short or tall, thin, curvy, nothing. I didn't even really know what to outfit the chick in or what colors. I'm TERRIBLE at designing outfits, and I always feel like my clothing creations lack character. Also, whenever I asked this chick about her character, it would take her a week to reply. I almost didn't even do the picture, but I like to stick to my personal challenges.
I'm very happy with how this picture turned out.
Anyway, end result (click for bigger size :3):

I've noticed lately that all I seem to draw is WoW. Not that it's really a BAD thing, but I kind of wanted to get away from WoW art for awhile and expand my horizons. Eventually I ended up in GaiaOnline at a suggestion from my roommate. I did an auction, I was happy with the result. Problem is, I realized I was being payed in a currency that was entirely USELESS to me. So, why bother? I've started taking free requests for avatar and OC art there in the hopes that not only will I expand my horizons, but that I might also get more practice in at the things that I can't quite grasp. I accept projects based on two things: The character has to stand out to me, and it has to be something that I perceive as a challenge. Lately my focus has been fabric and hair. I've been surprising myself. Here's a cropped version of something I'm working on that so far pleases me greatly:
