View Full Version : Status of the Alliance Roleplaying community?

I apologize profusely for asking a question that has undoubtedly been done to death; I went back a few pages and didn't see anything that really answered what I've been pondering, so here I am :) With that said, how is the roleplaying on this server, mainly on the alliance side? Is it confined to channels and guilds, or does it spill out onto the streets, so to speak?

I'm recently coming off a stint on The Venture Co. (Horde side), and I'm feeling rather disconnected. After the first few weeks of the servers existence, the RP seemed to die down alot. There are a few guilds who seem heavily RP centric, but I'm more a soloer..so I'm not hugely into guilds. I have played on over a dozen servers since starting WoW in 2004, so I'd really..really like to finally settle down somewhere. Any and all insight into this would be greatly appreciated :)

There are some awesome RPers Alliance side, and a great community. Horde has, unarguably, a larger RP community though.

Yes it does spill out onto the streets so to speak.
I came back to the alliance after a looong visit Horde side on TN (8 months :P ) and was just amazed to see all the RP that still happens everywhere.

Granted there are alot more asshats now then the last time i strolled the streets of Ironforge or Stormwind

I'm origianlly from Feathermoon and as much <3 that i do have for them TN puts it to shame with the all the RP i see day to day.

Hope you find what your looking for and you made the biggest best step already...finding TNG :)

I was lucky with that. I just happened to be browsing the official TN boards and looking at a random thread, and there it was :) Strangely enough, I played on TN when it first released, with a friend. We were pretty focused on leveling and RPing within our own little circle, so I never really got to experience the community. My friend ended up abandoning ship for another server, and that was that!

The only thing I worry about is that I have become increasingly jaded about WoW's community. There are so many rotten apples around..making their presense known..that its hard to filter out the good stuff :( Either way, I think I'll give it a try!

Here's an example from just last night. I climbed up on the fountain in front of the Stormwind bank and began an impromptu street sermon. I used to do that regularly in Nouri's early days, but it had fallen off in the drive to level. Lately I have been making an effort to return to his roots.

So there I was, spewing forth all kinds of rhetoric about the nature of the "Holy Light" and such, about the virtues and how they relate to day to day life, etc.. (basically my own take on it, which is in part why Nouri was considered a "heretic", ). Generally I was ignored, but every now and then I would get an emote from a passerby, like " So-and-so looks at Nouri with curiosity", or " So-and-so look upon Nouri with pity."

Yes, I also attracted my fair share of licks, farts, slaps, etc.. but the shining moment was when some rogue I think it was tossed out a comment along the lines of "Bah! Priest, always telling us how we should live or what to think!" That led to an interesting, if short, IC debate right there in the streets.

Thats the sort of thing I like to see in an RP realm. Because of that single exchange I'm encouraged to do more impromptu "sermons" at various locations, just to see what fish nibble the bait. I am a priest after all, I SHOULD be doing that sort of thing really, as opposed to being just a heal bot or face melter.

Just doing my little part in promoting world RP.

The RP here is great!

I play on Venture Company as well. I've played both Horde and Alliance, and found that while both have great RP, Alliance on that server seems to be a little better in my opinion.

Here on TN, I know the horde has some excellent RP groups, and some really intelligent people.

Alliance here is great too. I am never at a loss no matter what level I am playing to find RP. Anywhere.

Grats on finding TNG by the way. For the most part, we're pretty nice people...

:D

I really have to speak up for RP on this server, specially lately. Granted the Horde are more acknowledged for good RP here, and are (albeit arguably) more greatly represented on this board, but all I can say is that there were more excellent and high quality RP events tihs weekend that I could possibly attend-- and events that inovled the wholeRP community. I see a lot of impromptu RP in Stormwind mostly.

In the newbie zones, you -are- going to see a lot of non-RPers and general weirdos (I rolled out a warrior last week and can verify this =P) and I always feel that to find RP on this server you have to know the right people (i.e. other RPers). I am always astonished to see people from large PVE raid guilds *cough* Echelon *cough* claiming that there are no RPers on this server. It is all about who you hang out with. I personally don't know any non RPers.

Check out the guild listings here for a list of RP guilds- I am sure anyone would be happy to say hi, and also for instant RP /join role - we started this channel last week and it is doing well. Welcome to TN :)

Sounds good so far :) I'm most likely going to be giving it a try within the next few days. I too played on both sides over on The Venture Co., and I also thought the Alliance had the more noticible RP community (though there were a few heavy RP guilds on the Horde side that made their presense known).

The only thing that I worry about is that I have become incredibly jaded, and as such I find it increasingly hard to tolerate bad apples. However, having found this website and forum, it gives me alot more hope that perhaps..just perhaps..I have finally found a home. I hope so! Thank you all again!

A dwarven something or another is definitely in my future, so I'll keep you in mind! I think I'm going to be going Druid or human Paladin to start out with though, as I've got some good lore left over from my previous TVC efforts. One way or the other, I always end up at my dwarven hunter roots :D

I always thought that if I ever rolled alliance for some reason on this server, I'd only have one character, and he'd be in IFR.

Well, after playing 10 or so days on TN's Alliance side, I have to say it's the best RP server (PvP or otherwise) that I've ever seen. Really, it's got the best community I've ever experienced in WoW, and that's saying a lot since I'm a chronic server-hopper. I even joined a very nice Roleplaying guild (Fabled Order) and that's going along real well.

Unfortunately (and of course, there's always one of those :( ) I've contracted a bout of Hordinism, which shouldn't surprise me considering I was raised on a healthy dose of troll and undead. Though I haven't quite decided yet (gonna sleep on it), I'm hoping the Horde population here hasn't drastically changed in the past 10 days :) I'll definitely miss reading all of the Alliances interesting FlagRSP/MRP notes, seeing the random RP in Stormwind and the overall sense of a genuine RP community.

If by more love, he means I won't be ruthlessly tracking you down and killing you to espouse my own self-riddled hatred of all things non-orcish, then yes. More love due to less hate.

But don't expect a hug.

Or if by love you mean being able to walk by a Troll without urgent medical care needed "Code white! emergency!"...then yes love there is.

(At the hospital where i work..."Code White" = Violent patient)

my own self-riddled hatred of all things non-orcish,

Do I count?? I keep getting accusations that Vilmah isn't a "real orc" because of her personality, and that just makes me sad.

Depends on your view.

Manus tends to be highly conservative, but differentiates between Orcish things and True Orcish things.

He's smart enough to respect how orclings were raised.

Vilmah
10-06-2006, 12:45 PM
Um, her view is that the Horde should be treated with respect, but she knows better than to think that fear=respect. All of her hippie peace loving crap is due to the fact that she knows the only way for the Horde to survive is to get allong with the other races. She was raised in Hammerfall, then in Orgrimmar.

Her time in Hammerfall was not... good.

EnheilRas

Which is very different from the perspective most Orclings who were raised in the slave camps feel. They feel hurt. They feel robbed of their childhood. They have both a trauma and pain, and have gone through what Jewish Kids went through in the Holocaust. They've witnessed first hand their innocence being torn away to see the humiliation of their people and have known the humans since childhood as overseers and prisonkeepers. Humanity to them IS bondage. Humanity to them IS oppression.

That mindset is what is currently progressing towards another major conflict.

I just did it again too to another person. >.>

Really though, there have been some great roleplayers that have come to TN that know nothing of TNG, only the realm forum. I'd rather give them a place where they can feel a bit more welcome.

I also write short stories that tend to be 70-150 pages long that no one actually ever reads.

Manus, could you do me a huge favor and make like, a SparkNotes version of your stories? I want to read them, but by god man, that's just too much text!

EnheilRas

I already prepared that.

It took me 4 days and encompassed an entire notebook of about 30 pages.

Keraph
10-07-2006, 03:33 PM
Ok then. I demand a one-page overview! If it catches my interest, I may read your whole damned story. But by god if you're one of those writers who use a ton of words that essentially get nowhere, and are only used to take up space...

....right to the moon!

Somehow somewhere people thought "Moby Dick (Or the Whale)" was a good book, even though he went through four chapters to describe the history of a single Mast aboard the ship.

How the hell do I do a 1-page summary of 45 chapters of plot and 10 main characters?

The Quick-Index of Plot Synopses took 4.5 pages.

You think of it as one big burger.
All I see people write are short stories.

All my entries are short stories, I just put them together because they are interconnected. If I wanted to, I'd make each chapter it's own post (I believe some could stand on their own easily), but that'd be spamming.

I've got 30 more chapters to actually write
Then the Mini-Sequal "The Frostwolf Exile"
Then the Double-Novella "Champion of the Horde" and "Voyage of Transgression"
before I can move onto "The Twisting Nether Chronicles" which will hopefully be the end of the story life of the character.
