View Full Version : What is the situation on endgame RPers? (Horde)

Me and a few others have been thinking of creating a new PvE guild, with more eastern raiding times (6-7 server time to start), and also having a good showing of RP within the group, and a purpose to all our raiding (something to do with the Bronze dragonflight and the old gods, I haven't totaly figured it out yet).
If we ended up going through with it (we're in Infamous right now) - would there be enough RPers around 60 to actualy make it work? I look at the Grim right now and the members are roughly around lvl. 45, which leads me to believe that not many are actualy striving to do the raiding portion of the game.
I look at Horde raiding, and it's all PvPers who've transfered over (Echelon, Infamous). The best I see in terms of roleplayers is Fates Hand at the moment, but their raiding times are extremely late and we wouldn't be able to be in the MC runs for more than an hour.

I dunno about staying true to RP when raiding end game instances. They use a lot of OoC chat and vent and following from the whole raid to work out. And idle chatter's only allowed in /p to keep the raid chat clean for the leader.

Plenty of Grims are 60 and raiding. The problem in your case is the majority of them live on the west coast and your raiding times are not possible for them.

I have a guildie that would never leave our guild, but would love to join in some earlier raiding as she's also on the East coast and most raids start a tad late for her.
Maybe y'all could consider just putting together some "regulars" for an RP raiding group? Most folks, especially RP folks, won't consider doing something that involves leaving their guild. However, you'll find them more than happy to commit to a few nights a week for raiding.
Anyways, hit up Xarja if ya need a competent 60 mage.

I my originating server, there were a number of "alliances" of guilds, co-ops if you will.
Basically, one guild would spearhead the motion, and other players would "join" the run. And then they could do the points as members of the run, not as of the guild itself.
In effect, you could have Molten Core coop #1, have a couple people in charge of it, and treat it like a typical guild-based run, except the "guild" in this case is the membership of the coop group.
Of course, you will have to realize that in places like Molten Core, there really is no time for RP. Some sacrifices must be made if you want the phat lewt. ;)
In "safe spots" in the dungeon, that can be possible of course, but not when you're sprinting from kill to kill trying to beat the rapid respawns. ;)

Err... I'm not Horde-side, (And I don't post on the Gazette that often - I have a good [to me] reason. =P) But I am an end-game (Molten Core, Pinnacle) equipped RPer (Maybe not on the forums, same reason as above).

On that note I also mention soon I will be reaching the higher end of the ladder and am also east coast so I wouldnt mind teaming up with someone early on for some raiding. I think a few of my guildies may feel the same too. But yes we like RP reasons behind what we do, I dont do anything just for phat lewt even though it is nice.

Well I RP a lot, not in guild because its actually a PvE oriented guild. Although I understand the problem you are facing because I foresaw myself facing the same problem as well when I was a guild leader...thus the initial idea of the Nether Council was born :)

Oh yeah, obviously vent and raid chat will be for assigning healers, positioning, and all that. But I'd really like doing the instances themselves with RPers.
I'm just trying to figure out a way to...I don't know. Have something established and solid group of people that would be fun to raid with and spend time with whilst not raiding.
Anyways, I'll look over the co-op thing, and see if we could set aside our ic differences easily enough to actualy work with plague bringers and the less righteous. ;)

I think having a co-op, aligning with other guilds, and/or making use of the Nether Council is the way to go for small to medium guilds. Some guilds really don't want to go massive and prefer the tighter knit family type guilds where they don't feel lost and ignored by the more vocal in the larger guilds. To preserve these small guilds and still give them the resources of larger numbers, aligning with other guilds is the way to go...if you don't, all to often I've seen fantastic small guilds shrivel and die to attrition as members started sloughing off to join big guilds in order to find raids for those end-game instances. It's really a pity too because all to often, they have to sacrifice roleplay to do this.

Sorry for my post before, I didn't notice the ()'s with the "Horde" in it. If I might be so bold, though - I tend to RP while we're doing Onyx, MC, Rag, what-have-you. A lot of the times we're bringing new people into the fights, as several guildies are still freshly reaching 60, or coming for the first time, or what-have-you. Various reasons.
While we have someone explain the fight on Vent, I'll start up some RPing. Usually, and this might just be my perception, I see the whole "Return of the King" style speeches in these huge raid events, before a boss fight, and that's about the limit of the RP. We have a certain gnome who'll remain unnamed, who likes to pace back and forth in front of "our troops" - giving such speeches. That's fine and dandy, within a limit, but it doesn't scream out "RP" to me - it's just a speech. There's very little interaction.
So I'll just... ...RP.
That's the best way to describe it. Who cares if you're in an instance? If you can do your job - and ESPECIALLY if it gives a relaxing break to calm folks down from being "on the job" and intently focused, and helps people realize that it's still a "game" that we're playing, even the hardcore "no funny business" folks will understand, because they understand the importance of morale.
So... what I do - is just start interacting with folks. Comment to the dwarves about the lava in the core, asking if it'd make better forges, being pure from the firelord himself and whathaveyou. Yelp out in pain from being burned on a firelord. Or comment on how quickly my blades are chipping against Garr. Or the dust in my eyes after he detonates one of his minions.
Hell - I'll start going into warlock-cursed "fits" because the warm relaxing air and the heat chips away at my willpower. And folks'll react. Even if they don't "react" - they'll laugh and say how it's great, on Vent. It'll take their minds off the heckling in general chat from other guilds.
It's hard work, sometimes, but just because you're in a 'large guild' - or doing endgame content, doesn't mean that you shouldn't roleplay. I don't blame 'anyone' for feeling intimidated for doing it in front of 39 of your closest friends, but sometimes it can be very worth it to swallow up that intimidation and just carry on, business as usual.
At least, that's how I weigh in on a "part" of this subject.

Given that part of my character's motivation for being in this world to begin with are tied to the presence of the 4 emerald dragons, I personally must have some form of high-end raiding content involved. Don't get me wrong... I'm not going to try and claim that I'm in RSA for RP purposes. Hell no. I want gear.... but at the same time, I'm making more of an effort to involve myself in some of the storylines I've seen posted here.
When I'm raiding, I don't talk much. I do my job, I follow instructions...
Then again, what's stopping me from posting an RP account of a Molten Core run? = )

Haha, North, I think Pinnacle just lets me stay to fill their RP Quota. ; )

Plenty of 60's in The Grim. We'll be heading back into ZG in February. If you are okay with a non DKP system, I'd be happy to contact you if we are short people. We RP everything in there. We don't use voice chat for the general raid, though the co leaders do use it to plan.
The Grim Census (looks a bit out of date, but very close).

Include me with Xarj on that. I'll be glad to do whatever raids I can get into, but I don't plan on leaving Decimate for it.
