View Full Version : Terrorism is like Sex...

They both require an enormous amount of sensitivity when discussed in schools because of the controversy inherent in the subjects.

I'm totally getting paid to write a paper that makes this assertion. :)

DISCUSS!

I thought you meant you had to terrorize the wife to have sex...

I will be very blunt, America is way too prude. Sex is out there, talk about it openly and it won't be so taboo and you won't have this huge run on teenage pregnancy. And I can't even grasp why you can't talk about terrorism. As long as you speak facts about a situation and do not profile, how is that taboo?

What Akuje said.

Going to leave this for now - aka, there'd better be some kind of discussion going on, otherwise its blog fodder and I'm pulling it down.

To be fair, he said Discuss and my copy pasta took more effort than Fynne did in the OP. I was discussing the relocation of a Philadelphia-born African-American who relocated to California.

I foresee a whole lot of "America is too prudish/Victorian/Puritanical" and nothing worth reading beyond the new monarch of Bel-air.

Forsooth, I must concur with this amicable woman upon the relative importance of this skullduggery to the most eloquently stated and perfectly poised Bel-Air of my, nay, perhaps, of all time.

It didn't feel that way when I went to highschool.. and that wasn't even a year ago.

Yeah, we weren't *supposed* to talk about sex, but by the time I was in 11th grade most of my teachers were intelligent and capable enough to understand that sex is a major part of our lives, and trusted us to be mature enough to handle discussion about it. Except for my Psychology teacher I had for my last semester of highschool.. But he was an idiot.

Regardless, I feel that from my experience I was able to talk about sex a lot more Liberally than I was terrorism in school. Yeah, we could speak about terrorism, but if you were to ever mention that from the aspect of the people who we consider terrorists, it is we Americans who are the terrorists, and they are the freedom fighters.. The consequences would be more dire than if you were actually caught fucking on the school grounds during school hours (which I am less-than-happy to say was the case at least once a year throughout all the four years of my highschool career.. And those are only the ones who got caught.)

Aw nah, I spoke my mind on terrorism and if anyone decided to go hard right-wing on me and righteous I put them down quickly in class discussions. Often times the teachers wouldn't have a problem with it because they agreed with me. How do I know? I talked to them about it after class cause one thing I never wanted to do was to overstep my boundaries.

There's no way you can be serious.

That's just... retarded on a level of anti-logic that it makes me want to kill people.

Specifically Szordrin.

I had a History Teacher who pulled me outside of class and told me that I was lucky he wasn't going to inform the office because I could be looking at like a week's worth of suspension. Dunno if he was bluffing, but I wouldn't put it passed them.

Also told me that what I was saying was borderline treason.

Kids who got caught having sex got like a minor suspension of like a day or two, or not even that. I think some just got a stern talking to.

I'm serious.

That's fucking stupid.

I woulda told any teacher like that to shut the hell up and read the constitution.

Szordrin

Actually, he was bluffing, Ryo. Students have just as much free speech rights as adults, if not more. If you got suspended for that, you could have sued the school and probably been represented by the ACLU free of charge.

The teacher would probably lose his job in the process.

If that had happened now, I probably would have done the same. Alas, I was just a wee 16 year old sophomore, and being easily intimidated, I just shut my mouth and nodded my head.

I guess it is because I spent my last two years of high school in Washington state, but anything really went. Any topic could be discussed from any point of view. Progressive areas vs. non progressive areas? (I.E. South, Midwest etc. ) .

All it takes is one Rosa Parks.

Szordrin
12-03-2009, 02:13 PM
I dunno about that, Akuje. I went to high school in the Midwest and even though we were in (literally) the only conservative county in Illinois at the time, it was fairly open minded.

I mean, shit, I'm only like... a half an hour from where you were, Akuje. But, maybe its because I was close to Chicago? I dunno.

Ryoku
12-03-2009, 02:14 PM
Hehe, I come from the same state Akuje and in most of my classes it was the same way. I just had a few teachers that were a bit off on both subjects.

I would tell you what I did in that situation Ryoku but it resulted in my getting a weeks detention and stuck in a basement dwelling being monitored for 8 hours straight by two teachers who felt I should not be allowed to talk. Not particularly fun nope.

However to be on topic. America is not puritanical at all. America is just flat stupid and bigoted. No one cares if you make a joke about a white guy it is ok. Make a joke about a minority of any type though and let it get caught in public and you are made out to be the anti christ. America in fact is one of the least moral most overal racist countries on the planet. Neither of which is associated with puritan values. Well religious hate maybe.

Or perhaps hatred of the religious.

Don't get me started on detention.

I've had periods when I was 18 years old where I would actually get caught skipping class (why would you go to my school, Mommy?) and they would put me in detention for 4 hours straight. I never understood it because it NEVER gave me any less desire to skip class.

But I get you on the racial thing. I almost got the shit kicked out of me when I was in 8th grade because I made the (brilliant) statement that AIDS originated in Africa.. Which was factual, but not really the smartest move of mine in a classroom that had 8 minorities in it.

I always did find it funny when Afro Americans would tell me about my slave owning great great grandfather, because I don't see how that's possible when most of them were FOB german immigrants!

aaand I'm done with my rant. This is a thinly tread line on a public forum as-is, and I'm not quite sure if I've yet managed to not cross it.

Well, sex is like terrorism in lots of ways. Mainly because you can force your boyfriend to do whatever you want just by threatening his sex life. Terror and coercion! And when I say 'his' is because at least here in Brasil women can find a man easily, while men can't find females that easily. And in a relationship where a man cheats, odds are his woman is doing ten times worst!

Well, asymmetric warfare is definitely one of the tenets of terrorism, yes. :)

Sex is like terrorism:
It's prevalent and all around us
We prefer to ignore it in person
...while the entertainment industry (Desperate Housewives, 24) blasts us with it
We do not place responsibility of it on the perpetrators' shoulders
Impressionable youth are most vulnerable to its appeal
We refuse to acknowledge what sources it
When contained properly, said sources actually contribute to society
When we do discuss it, we do so with a 2D perspective
It's killing people in Africa
It contributes to human trafficking / abuse of women

It's not just Brasil. Probably most of the world.

Though Brazilian women do have the advantage of being born beautiful.

I hate women. This is why. Everything in here demonstrates why they are evil.

Read the bible, it must be true if its in that.

They also spread disease, which is a fact; give me Skaadvik, Thalarios and Kained and tickle me aroused.

If you disagree you are racist, there I said it.
