from the forums because I told blizzard that an upgrade implies a boost in performance... WHAT THE FUCK?! (excuse the language but its appropriate here...)

Honestly, I'm a PAYING customer... I pay THEM money to upgrade THEIR servers... And they ban me because I, a PAYING customer, am unhappy with their piss poor excuse for an upgrade?!

Honestly, WTF... And they banned me for TROLLING?!?!? I haven't actually trolled a day in my life...

I don't see how clearly showing that my ping has DOUBLED and that NOTHING has gotten better after their 'Upgrade' constitutes trolling.

I've had it with this game... They have one month to get their shit in line or i'm going on the warpath.

If anyone is a Law major please let me know.

Curious: Did you use foul language?

nothing past WTF... and of course suggesting that the most logical explination for this was that they let a 12year old rewrite their net code... Honestly, I could write a better server than them... how can you make an UPGRADE that DECLINES performance, then BAN A PAYING CUSTOMER for telling you that your a company and are getting payed to maintain satisfactory service.

It's simple: If people see a bad review on the forums, Blizz risks losing money. They don't want their customers to get the wrong (Or right) idea about their game, and of course heaven forbid anyone openly speaks against them on their domain!

/sarcasm

I've long ago accepted that large corporations couldn't care less about the loss of one customer, or a thousand for that matter. Frankly, they're just making so much money that such a loss is nigh insignificant. Our happiness is not the number one priority here, profit is. Now, I don't hold that against them, that's just the way the world unfortunately works, but the downside of that is that exceptional service can rarely be expected, becuase it's more work for no profit.

The moral here I suppose is "If you set your expectations low, you'll never be dissapointed"

I don't think that Blizzard doesn't care. I think that they're doing their best. Why wouldn't they be? The people who don't care about losing customers are the executives at Vivendi. The people in the trenches at Blizzard have a job to do. They're not suits, they're developers. And when they only give themselves a day and a half to upgrade a ton of servers for the most popular game in existance, they're working themselves raw. Of course mistakes are going to be made. But if they do the job with more care, which takes more time, then people are going to freak about being unable to play their game.

I noted an interesting post from Tseric yesterday on a flamer's topic. He said he was going to let it go, but it got to him too much and he locked it so that the thread would die.

I think it was unfair for you to get banned, Marroc. But I also think it was a very bad move for you to be insulting without a practical reason for the insults. Calling their programmers pre-teens isn't going to motivate them, it's going to piss them off. If you were trying to vent frustrations, I respectfully think it would've been better to do it here, where you wouldn't be at risk for badmouthing programmers. I think that whichever moderator banned you has been trying to ignore the dozens of people calling him and his coworkers a collective dumbass, and it got to him.

You were the hot potato.

And, Blizzard has stated that the reason for this upgrade was to expand capacity for the Burning Crusade expansion. Therefore, we're not likely to see any immediate performance increase until BC comes out. Since they stated that clearly and repeatedly, I can see how they felt you were trolling.

The following realms will be receiving continued retro-fitting maintenance in preparation for the upcoming release of the Burning Crusade expansion. ((snip downtime info))

Due to the nature of these hardware upgrades, we’re unable to preserve the friends and ignore list for characters on these realms. We recommend that players take the necessary steps to back up this information, and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Well, the long downtime was not a performance tune-up. It was to change some things in preparation for BC. Most likely it was a change in the database (thus the loss of friendslist) and had nothing to do with network connectivity.

I suspect they got tired of so many people complaining about the "plumbing" when it was an "electrician" who forced the service call.

By difinition an upgrade is an INCREASE IN PERFORMANCE OR CAPACITY.

By NO means should it ever DECLINE performance, which is what their pathetic attempt at an upgrade did.

I wasn't insulting... It was a page and a half long, very professional, and well thought out. The only comment I made against blizzard was that they either a: didn't do something right and I wanted to report it so it got looked at, or b: let a 12 year old rewrite their net code.

I've been a computer science major for 2 years now, and have worked with computers for over 6. I have my compTIA A+ cert, and my Cisco Network+ cert.

YOU NEVER MIGRATE DATA WITHOUT A MEANS TO CONVERT ALL DATA INTO THE TYPE OF DATA YOU ARE MIGRATING INTO!

It is an EXTREMELY simple process to write a script that exports a database and changes the data into the form you need so that it can be later imported... It takes a few hours tops to write.

Again my post wasn't so much that I didn't see an increase in perforamance, but rather that they called it an upgrade... when in reality it was a retrofit and a loss of data.

edit: bolded the terms that are missused in THEIR post. I would not be mad if they had actually said what they were doing, but the fact that they claim it as an upgrade when it is not, and then tell me that they can't migrate my data as well, thats just bull shit.

this is simply incorrect. They have stated clearly that they are "Upgrading hardware in order for it to support burning crusade" thats as much as they've said to the likes of what you claim. EVERY other post about them have been along the lines of "Hardware upgrades are going in place to address the performance of all realms" etc. etc. etc. We have had TWO 36hr down times now... my performance has DECLINED with BOTH. That is not, in any way shape or form, an upgrade.

Well, I could get all technical, but I got out of the systems development business for a reason. Small businesses and educational examples are as relevant to a system as large as WoW as goldfish are to grey whales. I'm sure the servers will even out as they tweak things. I just hope it doesn't take them too long. I know I was getting weird lag spikes last night that more akin to old "monday night problems" than I've seen in a while.

Just don't let something that is supposed to be fun ruin your real-life attitude. If you aren't having fun, go find something that will make you happy. Life is too short to get all worked up over this stuff.

true enough, but the process remains the same... it can't become any more difficult than writing a script, the only difficulty comes in finding a method to convert the data, but seeing how nothing was changed as far as the data from the friendslists... i don't see how they couldn't...

the only other opperating factor is time... which i would rather the server down another day than have them tell me they are being forced to loose data.

i wouldnt really call it an upgrade....more of a system wide expansion(like making a 2lane road into a 4lane...not really making the road any better, just bigger)

then going off and saying that their "upgrade" is pissy....well that was their call and it seems the call was for an imediant back hand slap :P
