So ever since I've come to the server and sought out roleplaying one of the hardest parts for me has always been actually finding new individuals and breaking the ice. Essentially what excuses can I have for interacting with people in character and looking for connections? Or what can I be doing that leaves an opening for other roleplayers to see and come in? Now that I'm no longer in an RP guild it's become a lot harder to find a half-decent reason to be looking for some roleplaying contact. Any suggestions and/or comments on the subject of breaking the roleplaying ice? Obviously what works for your character may not work for everyone, but all tips are welcome.

If you play a particularly outgoing character, my Druid Barkkuk (Bark Twain) who is a particularly zany character just talks to anyone and anything. I've even gone to the point of bailing friends out in Silvermoon who are being assaulted by flirtatious males by running up to said male and claiming they slept with Bark's fictional wife and demands they go outside so that he can duel them for her honor.

However, for Arokai and Ryoku, who aren't so aggressive, I usually just try emotes around strangers. It's harder on Aro because sometimes people just don't want to react to the normal sort of "/Does something completely irrelevant and is only mentioned for the means of finding RP" but with Ryo I tend to be slightly more out of the box, and have her do strange clumsy things, like fall off balconies.

I guess basically what I'm saying is it's all dependent on the kind of character you're playing. An outgoing character is going to tend to get a lot of good random RP, while if you're a particularly shy character, accept the fact that people aren't akin to approaching you so easily and that most of your RP is probably going to be prearranged with friends.

Check out I.S.

Our guild channel takes place in the guild hall, so you can be as anti social as you want, and you'll still get noticed.

Just stay out of the basement, our resident warlock does freaky things down there.

A few simple, but effective, opening lines:

"Excuse me, I heard ((from someone/down at the shop)) that you were a ((insert profession)). I've been in the market for ((something relevant))."

"I see by your ((visible item)) that you have ((done some simple or glorious thing)). If you have time now, or later, I'd really like to buy you a drink and ask you some questions about it."

Or, sell the proceeds of your professions in a clearly RP manner. Sure, the AH is faster, but a few well worded macros for /Trade can get some casual contacts going.
