Studio Ghibli at its best, as always. A very cute movie. Very lax, very deep and stunningly beautiful as all their films are. I was actually quite surprised that kept in the original Japanese names and mannerisms [Soskei called his teacher sensei. :O]. Definitely recommended for anyone and a good break from all the BOOMBOOM movies that has been coming out.
Anyone else see it yet?

I saw it and meant to comment on it last weekend. XD
I like how studio ghibli kind of mixes up the art and drawing style a little bit from movie to movie. The story was great, not as dark as some of the other films. My kids loved it and we will be adding it to our collection (we are only missing a movie or two) for at home. I love a movie that can pull you in and doesn't make good and evil cut and dry. I like my shades of gray. :)

Libelle and I went to it a weekend ago as well, right before Demitri came into town...
It was so adorable! And beautiful, as you said. Dark or fanciful, I always love Miyazaki's films. He's just fantastic.

OH GOD, THIS MOVIE WAS FABULOUS. I loved it so much. I'm so glad that I saw it. And the song at the end was stuck in my head for hours.
As for them keeping the Japanese mannerisms, they tend to do that for all of Miyazaki's films since Disney got the US rights to them in the early 2000's. The voice acting for all of them have been very good, too. This was the best re-telling of "The Little Mermaid" I've ever seen!
Also, HAM!

I love Miyazaki's stuff. Spirited Away is still one of my favorite movies, though unfortunately I haven't seen this one yet. :(

Actually saw this at an anime club showing like four months ago.
Standard Miyazaki stuff. And by that I mean excellent compared to most everything else, but compared to stuff like Nausicaa, or Castle in the Sky, or Howl's, or Kiki, well, you know it's just more of the usual Miyazakiness.
I guess it just didn't blow me away since I've seen his other masterpieces. Though I also saw a sub, so it might be more impressive in English (the Buena-Vista/Disney people tend to do some of the best dubs in the industry, lol Billy-Bob Thornton in Princess Mononoke).

One of my favorites of Miyazaki is the Cat Returns <.< I REALLY REALLY want to see Ponyo and see how it measures up. *Excited* I'm pretty sure I'll be adding this to my movie shelf too.

OH!! Who else got flashbacks to Taken when Liam Neeson's character was in search of Ponyo?? XD!!! I was waiting for him to throat-punch someone.

Spirited Away is my favorite movie of all time. I love Ghibli films so much I wish I was a kid again every time I watch one.

not my FAVORITE Miyazaki film (that would be Princess Mononoke) but it was pretty damn good.

Princess Mononoke is one of my least favorite Miyazaki films. O_o

Mononoke is one of his "SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT AMG" movies, right up there with Nausica and Pom Poko. I liked Mononoke 'cuz it was a bit more violent.
