So, what tools can new players on Twisting Nether use to find RP?

Both sides can use FlagRSP to spot other RP'ers in the crowd.

Alliance has
/RP (/RP is usually quiet, but there are people there and you can find some folks to chat with. Also, it has no in game and widely understood story. it's just a chat channel - which tends to limit rp.)

Horde has
/RP (Established as an Inn where you can roleplay)

Any other tools/places/regular events that I'm missing?

We do? I joined /RP once just in case someone had thought to make it and I was the only one there. I guess I'll have to rejoin. :)

Horde has /RP. We have been Rping in there as an inn, the Rest in Peace Inn. I'd like to RP in there more like I used to but the RP in guild chat has been too busy and between that and hunting with my partner, I can't keep up with all the RPing.

I guess there's a /tavern chat channel as well.

If you want to know how many are in a channel do /chatlist # (# is the number of the channel) this only works with channels you are in though

FlagRSP is awesome! Can't be recommended enough. I know about the channels but have yet to use them. I also troll the Twisting Nether forum a lot to find out what's going on RP-wise. The guild I'm in (Tears of Elune) also maintains contacts with other Alliance guilds. We keep each other updated about RP events as well as raids and things like that.
