View Full Version : Hateful Gear - Which way to go next?

All righty. So. Armory FINALLY updated and I am trying to figure out which way I need to go, gear wise.

I have recently turned all my focus from PVE/Raiding [Due to new born baby! GLEE!] to PVP and have been gearing up with Hateful. I don't have the time for VOA very much right now, and probably won't for a month or two because of random baby crying and constantly having to get up and down.

Soooooo, I need some guidance in which way to move, gear wise.

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Twisting+Nether&n=Bruuin

There is my armory.

Which gear pieces should I go for next? I am thinking cloak then boots? And yes, I know my enchants/gems are pretty shitty at the moment, but eh.

So, from where I stand, which would be the best upgrade right now for me?

And just so you know, I have JUST finally jumped into the Arena biz last week or two, so the rankings are lol worthy.

Also, in before Retlol

Edit: Someone on the official forums mentioned I do not have a ret PVP spec?

Am I missing something? O.o

That righteous vengence, or whatever does the damage over time can hurt you because it can keep you from using repentance mid battle and instead forces you to open with it or keep an eye out for when you opponent doesnt have a dot on him. Seal of command and improved hammer of justice is also pretty popular in pvp for ret, might want to pick those up.

Righteous Vengeance doesn't break repentance.

Doesn't change the fact that it's shitty in PvP because it doesn't do a whole lot of damage in a short period of time, which is what you want.

SoComm is alright, but SoB is usually better if you have a healer around. Your judgements do slightly less, but your crus strikes, DS's, and normal attacks, will all do more w/ the extra attack.

I've seen good Rets get high ratings with SoComm, and ones get good ratings with SoB, but SoB is seal of choice for most top rated Rets. (some of whom aren't even that good though.)

And upgrade your cloak, then your neckpiece.

And for PvP spec, you want something like this:

If you really want SoComm (I know Anorah, my ret in 3v3, has it) you can drop vindication, put one in SoComm, and one in Divinity.

For Glyphs, use Judgement, Salv, and either Command (if using SoComm) or if you use Blood, your choice of Turn Evil (for those pesky Death Knight Ghouls) or Divine Storm. (to help offset SoB self-damage)

As of March it did, haven't used it since, and I did notice that bliz said they were going to fix it as it wasn't suppose to, but I am 100% sure it was breaking repentance, tested it many times. If they fixed it I just didn't catch it.

They Hotfixed Vindication so it does not work on Players anymore from what I read. let me find the post.

Edit:

It lowers everything but Stam and Int.

The Retribution Paladin talent Vindication no longer reduces the targets stamina or intellect but does correctly lower agility, spirit, and strength as mentioned: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=17631617432

Which could possibly make it arguably useless? Not sure.

It's nice to debuff melee opponents, they still lose some AP and crit - and it's better than eye for an eye, righteous vengeance, or swift retribution... So eh. Pretty nice in 3v3 with the predominance of cleave teams. Not great, but not terrible.

Huh, I was told it doesn't, never noticed it while I was spec'd into it.

Shitty damage anyway.

Ya it might boost you're DPS over the course of long boss fights, but it doesn't have much bang for PVP.

So if your just starting out and in 78 resilience gear already and your 79 with 54k honor saved up what should you start with first? I was thinking since my warrior already as the resilience set I would fill out the slots without resilience in them a.k.a neck, back, rings, trinkets, before working on glad gear like Hateful. Is that the right way to go? Can any of you guys recommend the fastest way to gain honor (cause I have no arena team waiting for me at 80).

I figure the best bet is do AV over and over, get the pvp daily done with, WG dailies, WG 2k honor thing (there is one right?). Rinse and repeat for days on end for dah epics?

Well, deadly main-set/furious off-set is coming out on Tuesday and I think that'll be a good place to start. Wait until then if you hit 80 beforehand and you won't even have to bother with hateful. :D Low survivability and killing power will be pretty annoying at the beginning, and if you're going for it all anyway, might as well pick up the pieces that give you the most stats (not to mention the +resil 2-set bonus).

Pick up the two-piece main-set bonus and then you can work on off-set furious pieces if you want, I'd recommend the deadly head (for the meta) and either shoulder/chest. The head and shoulders also have really cheap +resil WG enchants from stone keeper shards, which are aplenty. But don't underestimate the boost you'll get from the complete deadly main-set, though... it's several jumps over the crafted resil set, bypassing savage and hateful! A nice upgrade on pieces with lots of stats!

AV is the weekend atm, and it's awesome honor. I usually just farm BGs in a cycle and turn in the marks, but straight spamming your favorite BG works if you hate certain ones too much to be bothered. xD Do Wintergrasp whenever you can! The dailies are more like tri-dailies, as you can only do them again three days after you last completed them iirc... but they're phenomenal honor, so do them as often as possible. Besides that, yeah, do the dailies as you said.

Arena is a pretty different experience, and most find it a lot harder. It can be pretty tough at first, but farming up deadly/furious with honor can give you a more pleasant start. :P That way, you can focus on learning the nooks and crannies of your class in PvP situations, as well as not be a liability to your partner and you can work more on learning comp synergy. I'd say work on arenas after you've gotten a good part of your honor farm-able pieces, not to mention you'll fine-tune your basic PvP game.

What they are tri daily...ugh. I was all happy that I could get to the legacy items pretty fast if I did them every day. Oh well heh, I find anything beside AV, WSG, AB fail in que times so its hard to do round abouts for the 4 badge honor turn in. Thank you for the advice :)

Adding a few things into my rotation I could probably get 20k+ a day if I stay on top of things atleast during AV weekend. All the way rested to 80 too so those AV help me in more ways then just honor.

Heh, sorry if I just dumped a wall of text on ya! But yeah, just work at it... it's wonderful that you're rested at 79 during AV weekend since you're farming up the best honor holiday (imo) as well as leveling at the same time.

A good thing to try is to align your heroic runs with owning Wintergrasp. While I'm honor capped in preparation for Tuesday's new gear, I have tons of stone keeper's shards that I can turn in for those WG honor commendations (or heirloom items, if that's what legacy means?). Not always manageable, but can be quite nifty since they can accumulate quicker than you might think. ;P

Yeah Heirloom, legacy blah whatever haha and I am sure most people will say I am the king of walls of text so no worries. I want to try to get those PvP heirloom items ready for the new races coming out for the xpack for quick PvP leveling, sad though I can't find a heirloom resilience chest piece.

If you're trying to prepare for Cataclysm, don't worry about heirloom items for a while. You certainly have lots of time before that expansion hits... I understand the hype around Cataclysm, but not why some people think it's so soon coming. :P

And yeah, there are only PvE heirloom chests at this time... I'm thinking they'll implement PvP versions soonish, though.
