Fallacy

Amnennar's hooves seemed to be the only sound as Fallacy led him through Eversong Forest. However, Fallacy could feel several presences around him, similar to whenever he ventured near Darrowshire. The spirits here were just as restless, and, despite all they had been through together, the horse was still a little spooked. He ran a hand through his mane to try to calm him, but Amnennar's condition only worsened as they went further into the darkening wood. Night was closing quick, and it was not a place Fallacy wanted to be caught in the dark. Silvermoon was not far off.

Fallacy could only vaguely remember Eversong before the Scourge had passed through. He had visited his in-laws a few times before, and spent some time in the forest hunting its rather exotic fauna. It was quite a different sight this time. Little green was left to be found in the treetops, giving way to a diseased gray, and the sunlight which always had shone bright through the branches was blocked by a thick haze. He had to carefully guide his horse over gnarled and distortedly grown roots. The road had long gone into disrepair, and Fallacy did not feel safe venturing it after seeing odd lights along it. Worse, he had not seen an entire patrol from Silvermoon the entire time. He knew the blood elves to be heavily undermanned, but it was still disheartening to not see another living person while he travelled.

He approached the carcass of a rotting animal; of what kind, he could not identify. Amnennar stopped, refusing to near the corpse. He edged him forward, but, as they came within a few feet of it, something leapt out from inside of it. Amnennar reared up, sending Fallacy off to the ground. The horse kicked wildly, and managed to hit its mark. A mana wyrm was quickly trampled, but Fallacy was unable to keep the horse under control, and he went running off into the woods.

"Blasted horse! Should just keep it blinded, at least." Fallacy rose, and brushed out a stick that had gotten stuck in his armor, and looked up just in time to see a dagger go flying by his head. It lodged itself in a tree, and Fallacy glanced at it for a second, enough to note it as Sin'dorei craftsmanship. He pulled his spear from the loop holding it to his back, and looked from tree to tree to discover where his attacker was hiding.

"It's been too long, Herenth. Too bad, this reunion has to be so short." A figure stepped out from behind a tree to his right, the person decidedly elven. His robes denoted him as a magister, and he held a glowing scimitar at his side. His hair was a light red, with a few streaks of blonde near the roots. He was smirking, but Fallacy could tell that he was extremely tense.

"Who..." Fallacy knew that he had met this elf before, but couldn't place the face.

"Aw, I guess your 'incident' really did mess up your memory. Well, allow me to jog it!" The elf held out his free hand, pointing it at Fallacy. He knew the gesture well enough to know that it was time to dodge, just in time to avoid a bolt of fire, which split open the tree in which the dagger had landed.

The elf's smirk had gone, twisted completely into one of rage. "You bastard! I'll make you pay for what you did to Visena!"

Fallacy was in a daze. His mind raced as he tried to remember. "Tirdisar..."

The elf tilted his head in amusement. "So, you remembered my name. Tirdisar Hawkbrand. Visena's brother. Your brother-in-law." He swung out his arm to release a wave of flame, preventing Fallacy from dodging, so he had to raise an arm to his face to block the heat.

"What do you think you're doing?!" Fallacy had had it with all the toying around. He ran up to the elf and thrust his spear at his chest, just to have it deflected by the sword. "What happened was all done by Visena's hand!"

Tirdisar had him in a position perfectly open to attack. He put his hand forward to Fallacy's chest, and the blast of fire sent him flying against a tree. "Like I'd listen to a corpse. She's gone because of you!"

Fallacy's left arm felt numb from the blow. He let the spear drop to the ground, and unsheathed his dagger. "Tir, she... she killed me, and then took her own life."

Tirdisar spat in his direction. "Lies. You obviously know nothing." His hand began glowing as he gather the mana necessary to deal out more fire. "She still lives, but her mind is gone."

Fallacy froze, his mouth hanging agape. "How... it's not possible!"

"It doesn't matter. I'll destroy you, and that will be the end of it." The smirk returned as Tirdisar gained assurance that he would win. "Now, die, again."

The fireball he released was immense. The trees around them burst into flame as it passed. Fallacy knew that it would turn him to ash if allowed to hit him, but it would be impossible to move out of the way before then.

"You fool! I am a Watcher of the Timeless One!" Fallacy removed his righthand glove, and held out his hand to block it. The fireball struck, forcing Fallacy back a few feet, but the elementium covering his hand managed to hold it off. It dissipated into ash, revealing a look of horror on Tirdisar's face.

"Impossible! You should be dust!" Fallacy didn't allow him to get another word in. He flung his dagger towards the elf, which became embedded in his shoulder.

"Gah! If... if you think I'm done with you, you're sorely mistaken. I'll have your skull, and I'll use it to serve Visena's medicine." Tirdisar blinked out of sight.

Fallacy tried to relax, but, instead, he ended up collapsing to his knees. His right hand was glowing from the fire it had absorbed, and his other arm was still numb. He lost track of how long he sat in that spot before Amnennar shambled his way back to his master. He couldn't remember how he managed to climb up on the horse, but he awoke to the gates of Silvermoon. The horse stood chewing grass, and the guards were giving him an odd look.

"I think, old friend, that we've already done what we came for. No need to stay here. Let's return to Tirisfal." Without even entering the city, Fallacy turned his horse around back in the direction they had come.
