Um. With the new changes that were made to the forms I purpose that we may get email notification when new posts have been made in Social Groups.

A lot of people are going to have a lot of Social Groups, for the Community part of the RP-Community, and its going to be tedious and boring working shifting through all of them trying to find the new posts and conversations with out some sort of guidance. And seeing how the "New post button" I'm sure will be left for the RP part of the RP-Community I think this would be something to look into.

(Please don't turn this in to a hate thread.)

When I go to my main page for social groups, I see a list off all the groups I'm a part of and the ones with new messages are bolded there. In addition, I can subscribe to any discussion thread in any of my groups, which should put it into the same kind of email notification as the regular threads.

Do these not do it for you? Perhaps you could better explain your specific use case.

They weren't working for me before. Did she just make these changes (the email part i mean).

If this has already been done then I'll shut up. ^.^

Admittedly though, it'd be nice to have the option to subscribe to a social group in the same way that you can with a blog, in case there's specific discussions in particular that you want to keep up on. Don't know if that's possible or not, but it'd help.

I wonder about that. In theory, if you joined the group it's because you are interested in the contents. I guess there is something to be said for taking a subset of those groups that you are especially interested in, but I'm not sure of the added value.

If people want it though, I'm sure Villy can look into it.

It's nothing to do with being interested or not. If you're posting in 10 different discussions in 10 different places on the site, it might occasionally just slip your mind to check back on one of those groups. That would be my interest in it.

Interestingly enough, that is supposed to doable in the next version of the forum software. I'll probably be upgrading Sunday night, or whenever my next graveyard shift at work is.

In 3.8.1, social group subscriptions were disabled because of confusion over the functionality they provided. In 3.8.2, they have been improved and re-enabled. When subscribing to a group, you can now choose to receive a daily or weekly digest of the discussions that happen within that group. You can still choose to not receive any email notifications when subscribing to a group.

Group subscriptions which were created before 3.8.2 will not automatically send email notifications. These users can modify their existing subscriptions or resubscribe to enable email notification.
