Tonight Bubbles, my pet gorilla, tanked Sapphiron 25. A huge thanks to my guild Snuggles for allowing me to try this and for doing an incredible job.

Before the calls for nerfs come in, please note the extreme stamina stacking which makes this possible. I'll be logging out in my tanking gear and spec so others can look for themselves. Also a pet tank is vastly inferior to a normal player tank, Bubbles had half the HP of the Voidwalker that tanked Sarth, and according to our WWS with that gearing and spec I did a whopping 946 DPS.

Five healers were present in the raid, and the four hunters in the raid Misdirected whenever possible. The raid's DPS did have to hold back most of the fight, but towards the end threat is far enough ahead to allow the raid to go all out.

Healers must keep a pet tank fully health capped at all times. Bubbles had more than 37k HP fully buffed, but our first attempt ended when he took a 27k crit at half health. Two hits back to back without a heal in between could easily be fatal as pets cannot be made crit immune.

This is the second 25-man raid boss tanked by Bubbles, the first being Gruul shortly before the launch of WotLK.

A great thanks for Snuggles for letting me try this, for hanging in for a third attempt, and the best damn healers around.

The hunter stacked as much Stam gear as he could. Raid buffed, he was around 42k health and his Gorilla was at 32ish.

Tanked the entire fight.

Hahahaha. XD Go go monkey!

No matter where you go you will always find someone who wants to push the envelope.

I love people like that.

Impressive. Especially the healers.

Wonder why he want with the gorilla? I wouldn't think their AoE spell would be the best option amongst the tanking pets. Maybe it does put out that much threat, though, even on single targets, I haven't looked into it.

...Or maybe it's just because it was his gorilla.

The thunderclap is a huge aggro draw. It's one reason you should never raid with a gorilla unless you turn it off.

I tamed a gorilla recently with Ching, and it is almost as good at holding threat as the Razzashi Adder from ZG, and it is still 4 levels behind.

Tanking isn't that hard.

Healing is.

That's why I respecced my healer to a tank.

Also, props to that guy for pushing what he did, that's awesome.

And your DK from DPS to a Tank?
You gonna get your drood to 80 and tank with HIM too!? Oh! get a huntard up there and use your pet to tank too! (though admittedly, thats pretty damn cool XD)

I think you need to goto a TA meeting, good sir! (Tanks Anonymous)

Tanks like to be the center of attention. Akuje likes to tank.

What's hard to understand here?

It's funny 'cause it's true.

Is it that I want to be the center of attention, or the women swooning over me everywhere I go that has thrust me to the front of their attention, which is the cause of me wanting to be the rest of everyone else's attention?

It is true though, my Druid is bear feral =)
But, my hunter is going to keep her kitty thank you very much. Humar the Pride lord, named Token. +6 cookies if you get it.

I thought it was impressive when we had a hunter pet tank LBRS back when we were all 60s.

Yeah the gorilla's racial thunderstomp is a big aggro draw thats why I think some where in the patch notes they said they are removing it from the gorilla and adding it as a talent in the tenacity pet tree.

Thunderstomp is no longer a gorilla-specific family ability and is now available to all Tenacity pets. It has been reduced to one rank.

So after the patch it might be capable of any tenacity pet pulling this off, probably a turtle with their shell shield pet ability. This is pretty funny too the gorilla even kept in the right raid position. I like how pets have took a massive step forward then being a "dismiss your pet!" icon when in raids before BC. I remember those days and I always fought for keeping my wolf out and he steadily became the guild mascot for our runs cause he would always be out furious howling for my aim shots.

I like me my wolves and hopefully they pop up more so as a good dps pet to have now that their howl is stackable with BoM and BS for hunter and pet. The ember worgs in Burning Steppes will always be my fav pet.

Hold on. We're talking about attention whore tanks and I'm only NOW seeing this thread?

I'm surprised no one PM'd me to come.

Eh, I'm just not sure it's the best single-target tanking option. I know for AoE tanking it can't be beat, and that's why gorillas have been hailed as the soloing pet of choice, and why all tenacity pets are getting it, but I'd be surprised if it were the best choice for holding aggro on a single target.

I took a bear on my huntard for multimob tanking, cause it has swipe (and isn't a fugly gorilla). If I can eventually get it Thunderstomp that would rock.

That was a painful day, getting to Loch Modan on a teen hunter. Not as bad as my first hunter, where I went to Teldrassil at level 16 to get an owl...

Nifty. I can remember back on my old server one of the raiding guilds horde side were bored one week and had a hunter's bear tank Ony.

Did a good job, they downed her.

And it was before 2.0 but after the hunter patch.

A gorilla is still a better single target tank (and AoE tank, for that matter) simply because Thunderstomp is the only pet skill (that I'm aware of) that has an added threat component. So a gorilla has both Growl and Thunderstomp to build up threat over the course of a fight.
