No seriously, can we, as a group, just not have the maturity and intelligence to be able to discuss PVP that may have taken place ON A PVP SERVER without it devolving into pvpnisbullshit? Do we, AS A GROUP, really need to be babysat to the point where we can't talk about this at all? This is like...well, not being able to talk about RP on a fuckin RP server.

Seriously, if ONE PERSON can't handle talking about PVP (especially in one discussed instance) without resorting to PENIS, can't that person just be a. silenced, then b. banned? Maybe it seems harsh, but for fucks sake, we need to be able to talk about PVP here too or this might as well just be another forum for another RP-PVE server and all the QQing about PVP actually having happened was just....an anomaly? A freak accident? Some horde falling off a cliff and belligerently thinking that some Alliance actually tripped them on purpose when they stuck their sword in their gut and then kicked them off the edge?

There has to be more to this than 'someone came into a post and wanked with their figuratively huge penis all over the topic so that everyone else who was talking sensicly and intelligently was summarily ignored by all mods.'

C'mon, please? I'd even mod it (if you could stomach that, but I really would. You tell them to come 'talk' to me. Private forum. Beatdowns. It would get me hot. Oh yeah.

...wait what? >_>)

The question is whether the TNG is a forum for RP on an RP-PvP server or a forum for RP and PvP on an RP-PvP server.

Oh wait.

TNG is an site to promote RP.

RP and PvP (not or) on TN.
RP on TNG. No PvP.

Please stop bringing this up. The premises have been made clear >.<

I dunno, I kinda agree here. I mean, the TN War post was locked because a few people decided to start talking trash to me. I tried to keep it tactful as possible, and there was some nice discussion in there anyway that I wanted to see continue, but it got locked anyways.

Childish.

Then everyone should transfer back to RP-PVE with a sigh of relief, eh wot?

BEING ON A PVP SERVER DOES NOT MAKE YOU MANLY. IT MAKES YOU CRY LIKE A GIRL AS FORUM TROLLS EAT YOUR ASS.

...oh wait, that's just me. *cough*

Seriously tho, until TN is made into an RP=-PVE serve (aka never) this will never stop coming up. I'll mod. It will be fun. You can throw them at my irrational mood swings. It'll be funny.

The PvP section is supposed to be used to discuss the mechanics of PvP, not PvP that actually occurs on our server.

Not trying to be a buzzkill or anything, but you shouldn't have posted it at all, in the first place (according to rules that are made clear in several rules sections).

Edit: This came in after the above post, so I'll respond to that too, and again - TN is an RP PVP server. TNG is an RP site.

That's all! It's simple.

This thread isn't proving your point. It's only adding to the boring argument back and forth that is always proved by the people in TNG pointless.

Nobody here can talk about PvP without resorting to stupid insults and butthurt. Nobody. Even the so-called "mature" discussion usually reverts into, "Well fuck you asshole cause you're lying and bragging about this."

I present Exhibit A: The Cartel Enforcers taking over the Booty Bay Boat thread.

An RP-PVP encounter so ingenious nearly every single person that heard about it instantly was excited and interested... Until someone got Ganked.

And a beautiful example of RP-PvP it was, I'm sure - but wouldn't have a place on TNG at this time.

Correct - Because people freaked out about being ganked over videogame money.

Not even that - Over the morality of others being ganked over videogame money...

I would have ended the forum that day... Which is why we can't have conversations more controversial than the Drama club long-form twitterfeed from hell.

Which is sad, because that was a phenomenal event.

If I was mod, I'd edit obviously retarded posts to reflect their obvious retardation.

You know, like 'OMFG I PWND YR NUB ASS WHUT U TALKIN BOUT!!1111'

to 'OMFG I FORGOT WHAT MY SECOND GRADE TEACHER TAUGHT ME ABOUT SPEAKING IN FULL SENTENCES'

Ok maybe not that exactly, but there has to be a compromise to be able to talk about shit like what the Enforcers did while being able to handle the small-minded retards, AND keeping people like Lys from being able to see that OMFG PVP IS TAKING PLACE ON HIS SERVER.

I have self-edited here. I want to point that out. I can do this, I really can. >_>

Direct attacks towards other people are part of what got PvP posts banned in the first place.

For the record, I love PvP, and will try playing arenas again in 3.1.

The rules are in place as they are for a reason.

THAT was not a direct attack. That was pointing out what sorts of things any PVP area would help avoid. I pointedly left out the direct attack. It's thin skins like this that are causing the problem.

I submit that it's, in fact, the people who are getting butthurt over PVP that are the problem, not the PVPers themselves. The butthurt who did nothing but butthurt would quickly be kicked out of a private forum expressly for discussing HAWT PVP MANOUVERS (which I missed this weekend T_T)

PS-Arenas isn't 'PVP'....getting shanked while walking around in Icecrown is PVP. You can get arenas (and all it's wank) on a PVE server just as much as any other server. That is not an accurate comparison.

"People like Lys."

You singled me out as a certain "sort of person."

You just shouldn't do that, it's disrespectful. I love world PvP too. Questing in Stranglethorn Vale in the 30's is like. Amazing.

Anyway, I shouldn't even have to try to defend myself. That's my point. The fact that I feel like I have to, because you said "people like me" who don't want to believe in PvP happening on our server, whatever the hell that means.

All I did was point out in this thread: The Rules Are Stated.

If you WANT them changed, PM Villayna and she will TELL you whether she will change them or not.

Otherwise, it's none of your concern! You don't own the website.

(Lys beat me to the defining of a personal attack.)

I agree that there should be a place where we can discuss PvP events, with someone heavily moderating it so that people like Q who make personal attacks don't offend anyone.

I blame the sake. >_>

Lys was the first person who said 'OH NOES PVP IN MY FORAMZ' so he ended up the unfortunate 'victim'...it could have been several other people. I still think shying away from some sort of outlet for PVP events is pretty much pretending we are on a RP-PVE server, and I know how those servers are, and THAT IS JUST DRAMA QUEEN HEAVEN. I just want better than that for my server. :(

Yeah. I'm sorry I was a little bit virulent there near the end, I really respect your postings Q (which I couldn't figure out why people called you that but then realized your character is Qoroto :)... they usually always make me smile. Don't want you to think I'm a snarfbottom or anything o_O

Sooo I was just saying what my take on the premise of the Gazette was, and yeah... I wish the PvP posts worked too, but I guess they just don't.

And we've lost a lot of Alliance RPers from the TNG because of the old PvP forums <.>

Opal... I'm gonna gank you so hard you see STARS!

STAAARRRS!!!

...well, no I won't, but surely enough someone else might?

But... yeah. The problem with mixing RP and PvP is you get the oversensitive RPers as well as the completely insensitive PvP-mongers clashing together in ways that boggle the imagination.

I don't really see a way for people to get along any better, either. I've experienced first hand how hardup people here on TNG are to hate each other while hiding behind excuses such as "I'm following the lore!" or "lol, it's a PvP server", when the fact is the only reason they're "PvPing" with each other at all is because they, for whatever reason, honestly do hate each other. I'm not meaning "omg that guy's a jerk for ganking me!" hate... I'm talking actual hate.

So, as much as I miss the PvP posts and thought they were fun, there is way too much underlying actual hatred in this community to allow them. Some people here just simply won't play nice, and they exist on both sides. It's made me consider quitting or at least transferring to another server because it's gotten so bad at times, but I've instead opted to quit trying to cool tempers and ease out miscommunications brought upon by nothing more than petty "Nerd Rage".

So, I agree with you Opal, but that's about it. =\

*sighs*

This is NOT the correct way to get anything done about this subject.

I will restate the main point I've always made on this subject: If you want to discuss your PvP victories/defeats, you should do it with RP. Plain and simple. If you write something that truly belongs in Nether Legends (i.e. multiple paragraphs of juicy text, not screenshots with captions) it won't be removed. If, for some reason, it IS removed, you can send me a PM about it and I'll be your mod advocate to argue the legitimacy of your post. Basically, if the "no PvP talk" rule is actually influencing how you write your RP in a negative way, well, then we need to review the rule.

I read every single post in every locked topic, even if it was done by another mod while I sleep. I personally try to clean up a topic ONCE before I lock it, but part of my duties do not include telling other mods how to do theirs and most of them have less time on their hands for mod duties than I do.

I love PvP as much as I love RP, possibly more. However, discussion of it beyond PvP mechanics or full RP-PvP interaction always goes bad. Always. It's what realm forums are for, it seems, and just clutters up our environment here. Yes, people SHOULD be able to talk about PvP reasonably, but they just can't. It inevitably devolves into "I rock! I did it better! I did it first! I did it when it was hard! I"M BETTER THAN YOU!!!!"

This is just how competition works, it seems. Most of us are raised in environments that encourage you to make excuses when you lose and to gloat when you win. Even my school coaches were like this. They only said "It's not if you win or lose, it's how you play the game." whenever the administrators were around. Behind closed doors it was always "You little bastards better win." I've no doubt many, many more of us received the same experience.

Anyway..... too late to say "long story short", but the summary is this: The "no PvP talk" rule means don't run here to post about the PvP that just happened in game. Don't make:

@Irontoe "You ganked me again you little bastard! If I was ready for it, had better gear than you, and maybe had someone else helping me play, I would've smoked your cheap ass. You suck and shouldn't be allowed to play. I heard you eat live kittens, too."

It also means don't come here posting screenshots of how many TNG corpses you could get on the screen at once.....unless there is some damn fine, and I mean truly memorable and outstanding, RP to go along with it. That's something I'll go to the table to keep posted.

I'm hoping all this is simply about a story you're writing in which PvP happened and you're afraid to write it. If you really think it might offend the persons PvP happened to, then PM them first and make sure it's all good. Hells, send me a link to the post when you put it up and I'll give it a cursory examination before too many people get the chance to be huffy about it.

Now, as much as I'm talking like I'm top-dick around here, the ultimate decision belongs to Villy. As a PvP enthusiast and moderator, I'm offering up my services to make sure the "no PvP talk" rule doesn't infringe upon anybody's RP. I don't care if it infringes on anyone's ability to talk shit or feel superior.

Anywho, this thread is locked. Please feel free to PM your concerns to me. All the other mods talk about these mountains of PMs they get and I get like two per month. There's plenty of room in my inbox.

Note: This is NOT a request to pointlessly PM me. Serious inquiries only, please.
