History: Paali’s past starts not with her birth. It actually starts with her mother, a shaman of the Bloodscalp tribe of Jungle trolls. One day, while walking the shore, she heard the spirits of the ocean calling to her, telling her of different lands. One spirit called out loudly to her, but this spirit wasn’t a spirit of nature, but of freedom. So, the young shaman left her tribe to seek out this spirit, taking a boat and never looking back.
Months later, she found herself far across the great sea, washed ashore on the Echo Isles. The spirits that had called to her across the great distances were ecstatic that she had finally arrived where they had called her to. She lay there in the sun and the sand for a time until the sun was high in the sky. That’s when a tall he-troll sailed around the island in a small little fishing boat. The two of them saw one another, and the shaman heard the spirit of freedom whispering to her again. It was him.
Eventually, years later, the shaman, accepted by her ancient cousins, gave birth to a little she-troll she named Paali. The young she-troll had her mother’s looks and ability to hear the spirits...but she never tried. Rather, Paali loved going out and sneaking around the tigers, bothering them to no end. She got rather good at it, the tigers never realizing that she was there until she tweaked their tails, then they chased her.
Paali and Kouralin were in their teens when their father went out fishing one day, and never returned. That night, there had been a storm, and the next morning, the village awoke to find his boat washed up on shore. The next year, their mother contracted an illness that swept through the islands, one that even the spirits could not keep at bay. Many died in those few short days, including their mother. Paali drifted away from her sister in the following weeks, and eventually left the islands on her own to wander.
