(( This pair of characters, obviously, pay homage to that wonderful wealth of fiction that is Doctor Who. They also provide a nice means of having characters invested in the events of the expansion on the horizon. :) ))
The Kaldorei crouched at the edge of the pool, naked, staring at her own reflection. She lifted a hand to touch long, deep green hair and then drew it down to rest on her chest. She could feel a… heart beating steadily there and could feel blood pumping through veins. It was a most unsettling sensation. As she continued to stare at the unfamiliar face before her, broken memories spun in her mind.

“Let it go. You don’t even know what it is… It’s done nothing to harm us.” Latria slammed her staff into the ground in frustration. Looking to the creature on the ground before them, she shook her head. “We came for the artifacts we got the artifacts, lets get back to the Nether before something that does want to kill us gets here.”
Her companions looked to each other doubtfully. The largest of the gathered Ethereals spoke. “Fine. Let’s go.” With that, the company moved off and Latria moved to follow. It was then that she heard it.
“You… help me…” Latria hesitated and turned back, regarding the energy being as its light pulsed, the strength of the pulses waning. “Not like them you… hope…” The creature was in her consciousness, somehow, but Latria found that she didn’t want to fight against it. She glanced over her shoulder, at the receding figures of her companions, before slowly, deliberately, approaching the fallen entity.
Latria crouched next to the being. Removing her glove, she reached out to touch it. As her energies met those of the being, she felt a wave of calm wash over her. It was… intoxicating. She sat transfixed for several moments, watching their energies mingle as she came to the realization that she must help this creature and she, somehow, knew exactly how to go about it.
----------------
“So… where are we?” Latria stood, arms crossed, regarding her companion impassively.
“Hmm… Don’t really know. Followed a powerful source of energy here to this realm. Seems to be a source of some concern and interest to a lot of entities. Figured we might have a look. See if we can find out anything useful.” The being Latria had come to refer to as, simply, the Doctor pulsed in anticipation.
“Is this realm inhabited? Do we get to play dress up?” Latria inquired somewhat disdainfully.
“That it is… by a race known as the Kaldorei. They look a little something like this…” The Doctor flashed brilliantly for a moment and when the light faded, he stood before Latria in the guise of a flesh creature with broad shoulders, purple hair and ridiculously long ears.
“You’ve got to be kidding me…” Latria groaned.
“No, no. But, my dear ethereal friend, I have a less fleshy get up for you. These elves associate with minor energy beings known as Wisps. I thought you might like that a bit better.” The Doctor waved a hand dismissively and Latria’s form shifted, her energies losing their humanoid shape and coalescing into a small ball.
Latria hovered there silently for a moment. “So. I’m meant to see this new world like this? How do I even manipulate objects… ?”
“Look. I never said the disguise was perfect.” The Doctor moved to disembark. Latria followed reluctantly.
-------------
“No. No, no, no, no.” The Doctor moved quickly though the smoking rubble of what had been the city of Eldre'Thalas, his eyes glazed over with emotion. “Damnit… I need to find a vessel quickly… She’s not strong enough… She’ll dissipate…”
A young hunter, several yards ahead of the Doctor called out. “Here sir, I found one!” The Doctor bounded over to the body lying at the elf’s feet. It was the still warm corpse of a fairly young female elf. “Good. Good. Please let this work…”
As the world shook around them, the Doctor leaned forward and opened the elf’s mouth, his own mouth hovering inches away. The hunter frowned at the older Kaldorei and was about to speak when the Doctor shuddered and a vaguely purple energy shot forth from his mouth into the body of the elf.
After several seconds the stream of energy stopped and the body of the elf spasmed. The doctor began compressing the elf’s chest and breathing air into her lungs. “Come on… come on, you damnable flesh!!” The hunter watched, unsure whether to be fascinated or horrified. Suddenly the elf gasped for air and moaned painfully.
“Fantastic!” The Doctor looked up at the hunter, smiling brightly and tears running down his cheeks. “It worked! It worked!” Another tremor shook the city and the Doctor quickly gathered up the limp body and rose. “Let’s get out of here… Quick!”
----------------
Latria heard footsteps behind her and didn’t need to turn to know who it was. She could sense him, as always. “I owe you one. Don’t I, Doctor?” She smiled slightly as his reflection appeared in the pool next to hers.
“Nope. I think this is merely the first chance I’ve had to repay you for all the times you’ve saved me.” The Doctor paused. “I’m sorry there was no other way…”
Latria shook her head. “It could be worse. It could have been a Gronn.” She could hear the Doctor’s wry chuckle. “Am I mortal now then?”
The Doctor shook his head. “No. You are still as you always were, but enough of your energy was lost to the Nether that you will have to rely on… hosts, I suppose, to give you a physical form. This particular host should last for a long time though. These elves are said to live indefinitely, so the body ought to hold up.”
Latria nodded. “Thank you, Doctor.”
“Pfft. Don’t thank me.” He smiled. “I’m amazed you didn’t dissipate entirely… not even when you had to hold your own in here with me.” Latria looked up and their eyes met. “But, then again, I suppose you have to be a rare breed indeed to spend your eternities with the likes of me.” The Doctor chuckled.
“True enough.” Latria rose and moved to dress. “So. When do we get out of here?”
“As soon as you’re ready. The Kaldorei have a lot of rebuilding to do now. A whole new druidic society to institute.” The Doctor looked around. “We can check on them in a few thousand years and see how they’re getting along. In the meantime, I want to see how things are going on Draenor.”
“Well, then. Let’s get going, Doctor.” Latria smirked as she started off. “I’ll be glad to see you out of that ridiculous disguise for a bit.”
The Doctor chuckled.
