((A few of our recruits were asking about how the Regiment got to where it is, and I realized that we hadn't a posting up about it. So here it is!))

To understand the founding of the Ironforge Regiment, one must first understand its founders.

Tobey Ironmantle grew up on a farm not far from Loch Modan. He worked as a farm hand and he trained with the local militia unit. He showed great organizational skills and a clear head and came before the attention of the local magistrate. He was recommended to Senator Farns as a page and he worked within the Ironforge Senate for many years. He made many friends and enemies in the backrooms of Ironforge over the years and was suddenly and unexpectedly given a charter by King Magni to form a new militia - the Ironforge Regiment. He suspected that he was being set up to fail by the his patron's nemesis, Senator Balwyn. So he took the charter and pursued the organization with great fervour to serve his King and to confound his political enemies.

The second founder of the present-day Ironforge Regiment is Cernd ‘Foambeard’ Ironhammer. The Ironhammer clan can trace it's bloodline back thirty-two generations. Within that bloodline, one can count great artisans, generals, senators, and even kings! As wealth and influence allow, Cernd was pampered with all things... And it showed.

Instead of living up to his noble lineage, Cernd developed a taste for carousing, for gambling, and for drinking, earning the name "Foambeard". As his father watched Cernd's behaviour get worse, he realized a potential embarrassment lay on the horizon. As a political favour, Cernd was enlisted into the king's army.

Shipped off to Menethil Harbour, Cernd served eight years fighting Murloc's, stray croc's, and the occasional Horde. Those years taught Cernd discipline, honor, and more than a little about military tactics. Eight of the ten year enlistment finished, he was allowed to choose where to spend the last two. He chose the cushy job of bank guard. Seeing a potential to learn about the auction house, Cernd set his mind to earning a bit of coin. Two years quickly passed and he had earned enough to purchase a military charter from the Ironforge guild house. Naming it The Mithril Shield, Cernd began his new life.

Tobey, while Commander of the Regiment, had no real aspirations toward power, as was shown in the Council of Thelsamar where he laid aside his commanding officer status in order to unite the Mithril Shiled and the Ironforge Regiment with the promotion of Cernd Ironhammer as the new General of the unit. He is more interested in the performance and success of the Regiment.

With the merger of The Mithril Shield and Ironforge Regiment, Cernd had found himself leading a larger contingent of dwarves than he ever believed he would. Although he wouldn't have it any other way, Foambeard often found himself chewing nervously on the tip of his beard, wondering if he will be able to provide the leadership that had now become expected of him.

In time, Commander Tobey retired from Soldiering to the call of the Senate. Currently, he is the Ironforge Regiment's greatest supporter and ally, as many in the Senate do not think favorably about the slightly unorthodox methods the Regiment uses compared to the main army.

During the next few months, the Ironforge Regiment went through at least two major structure changes before settling on something similar to what is held currently. As the soldiers and officers leading the Regiment became more refined in their duties, the Regiment could march to battle and rise almost completely unscathed. At one time, the Regiment had nearly two hundred dwarves in its roster. It has since shrunk down to it's currently stable number, just over one hundred soldiers. Though casualities will forever be unavoidable, the Regiment benefits from a steady stream of wayward adventurers who desire to serve the King to their fullest.

At one point, there was a great schism in the ranks of the Ironforge Regiment. Many dwarves believed that the Regiment could not survive without the aid of the magicks in the other races and so a heated discussion came into being about whether or not to allow Gnomes into the Regiment. The discussion came to an end after an incident after a battle in Arathi Basin.

After this, the guild Sgian Dubh, the Black Daggers, came into being. It kept close ties to the Regiment for quite some time until its eventual collapse. All dwarves who left for the guild were allowed reinstatement into the Regiment.

The next major event in the Regiment's history was the historic promotion of Drankherk Darfus to the position of General. It was the first time a new General had ever been promoted in the Regiment. Since, the position has fallen to Garbhan Steelbrow and now to General Borgas Thunderfist. Under their leadership the Regiment has seen many epic battles and continued to prosper.
