Laron Redthorn
First Born,

My time is becoming short. I write to inform you that I will be embarking on my last Hunt. This leaves me in a dilemma that no father should ever have to choose. Should I leave the family name to a son who disserves to carry it, or to the rightful owner of the title? You have disgraced my family, first by being a criminal and then taking a filthy Human as a wife. How long did she live? A mere eighty years? It broke your Mothers heart to see her first son leave us so soon and on such terms. But that is not why I write you. Those things are in the past, and this is now.
After much discussion with the elders I have decided to leave the family name to you. I hope you have grown to be the man you should be. Your sibling will be informed of my decision.

My Son,

As you know I am becoming too weak to continue on the Hunt. As all in life I too must pass on. I am writing to tell you that I am leaving for my last Hunt. I know that you are a strong and agile Hunter. You make me proud every time I hear of you. This brings me to the real purpose of this letter.
I am leaving and will not be returning. This means I have to leave the family name to be carried on. With great thought and consideration, I have unfortunately decided to leave the family name to the rightful Heir. Though I believe that it should be you, who carry on my name, your brother is still the Heir. Please do not think ill of me or my decision. I fear that if I were to give it to you, he would contest it and you would be disgraced by stepping down.
I know you are man enough to accept my decision, and obey Laron’s wishes, as head of our family. Please take care of yourself and think of me when you look to the setting sun.

Love your Father,
Silvas Redthorn

The Dearest Gift given to me,

I don’t know where to start. I have taught you all I know about life. However I know that this has not been enough. I am sorry I wasn’t a very good at being your mother, after she left. I hope you can forgive me for not marrying again. I should have gotten you a new mother to teach you the things a young woman needs to know.
I am writing to let you that I am getting too old to continue the Hunt. I would not burden you and your brothers to take care of an old man, so I leave for my final Hunt. I will not be returning. Please do not mourn for my passing, it is as nature intends. I have left the family name to your eldest Brother. I know that Azrid will not take this lightly, please be supportive to him. Also please make sure to obey what Laron asks of you. I pray to Elune, that he will be a good head of household.
I still remember your first steps. Even then, you were on all fours. Your mother never really wanted to restrict you. It always caused her grief, having to tell you to stay upright. I hope you complete your training and they teach you the control you need. I know you will be a great Druid. Please know that I am proud of you.

I love you,
Papa

After writing his letter to his children, Silvas packs his gear, and checks his rifle. Giving his letters one last look, he drops them in the mail and heads out his front door. Thinking back to his younger years, when he first met Latania. She always loved the moon well in Fellwood. He would start there. Heading towards the Arcane Teleportation Runes, he takes one last look at the large pillars, at the entrance of the city. Rising almost to the sky, thinking back to the first time he saw them and resented his father, for moving them to large city. He spent all his time outside, and rarely even slept at his home.

Stepping into the red light that illuminates the circle of stones, he feels as though he is in two places at once, and then lands gently on the ground at the base of the giant tree. Standing on the dock, he see young Night elves mounting the Hippogriff, to fly to Auberdine, but he has always hated flying, so he sits waiting for the boat. As the ship arrives, a very young Human, timidly steps off, and looks around.

“Ex.. excuse me M’lord. How do, um, er Can you tell me way to Darnassus?”

Silvas, in his younger years would have just ignored the Human, and gotten on the boat, without giving the short lived ape a second though. But he did ask politely, so Silvas points up to the glowing stones, and tells him.

“Just walk up to the stone circle and step in to be teleported to the top. And make sure to bow to every one of the guards before you approach, or they might kill you before you even get close.”

The Human boy nods and bows to Silvas, then starts up the hill now more nervous than ever. Silvas chuckles to himself as he boards the large sailing vessel. “The guards should get a kick out of that.”

The roads of Darkshore hadn’t changed much since the last time he had been there. A few of the deer looked ill, so much that the predators were not even weeding them out. Silvas took some time to make sure they were returned to the Earth Mother. After the small diversion he was off to Astranaar. The forest was beautiful this Autumn, perhaps the for the first time in his life he was seeing the forest as a living being, not just a place where his prey lived. He was starting to understand what his wife had been telling him all along. Nearing the end of his life, he was seeing the whole connection. The trees, the ground, animals, that live in and eat the plants. It was all very beautiful.

Reaching the outpost of Astranaar he decided to go around, rather than stop in. The people there thought of him as a mighty Hunter and this was embarrassing for a person of his stature to be fading. He decided to let his memory stay as the person he once was. Not who he is now. Coming over the ridge into Fellwood, Silvas heads for the secluded Moon well that his beloved Latania always loved to visit. As he approaches, he half expects her to be there washing her lovely blue hair. Her seductive look as she beckons him to her, but as he gets closer, the image fades to memories…

Removing his clothing he slips into the peaceful pool of calm waters. Blessed by Elune, these bodies of water glow with a soft light that is mesmerizing. Laying in the water, he floats on his back staring up at the sky, wondering where she went and how she died… Drying off, Silvas decides he should make her a grave marker to commemorate her life. “She always loved this place.” As he sits down to carve into the large stone he found, Silvas sees something he must have missed when he first came upon the pond, a bear paw print…
