I know in the past, a channel was set up for Twisting Nether on IRC. It never seemed to get all that much exposure, and the few people that did go there seemed to be of the "pvp kid" mindset.
Should we try to resurrect this for the RP folk?

The last attempt was on irc.gamesurge.net. Even if I'm not online (playing), I usually idle in IRC.
It would especially be useful for coordinating cross-faction events.

I'm mostly on irc.sorcery.net for my normal chatting and D&D games.

But we'll need more than just a server for a TNG IRC, we need to have a chatroom offically made. It would probably be best to only talk about it in here to keep out the PvP kiddies from the realm forums.

Agreed. How do we get something like this set up?

First, we gotta decide on what server we'll be on. Then someone will make a room, look in the help file to find out how to get it set with chanserv so the channel will stay there and we'd get some ops to go beat out random people or bots that might enter. And um... people come in and chat and/or RP stuff! Though there can be made another room for just RPing for small groups and the other's both RP and OoC for everyone in the room.

The one for Shadow Council is #shadowcouncil on irc.enterthegame.net

Right, but the point is to get one for us. ~_~ I'm willing to put the work into this. Someone let me know what I have to do.

What's the point if there is not much intrest in it? There has to be more than just like... 2 people or something interested isn't enough to make a chatroom for TNG.

Just choose a server and create a channel I believe.

I'd go on that, I did on the previous thing as well

Well, once you connect to an IRC server, you can just join a channel name ("twistingnether", for example), and if it doesn't exist you will create it.
There is a way to "register" a channel, so that whomever does it "owns" the channel, and can then give out permanent "ops" positions to others, but I don't know how to do that (only that it can be done).
The simplest thing would be to just decide on a server, and /join twistingnether

Alright, how's this.

I'll go ahead and create a channel called #twistingnether on irc.enterthegame.com and wait for people to come.

If you want to set it up somewhere else or whatnot, be my guest. I'll give ops to the first few people who come.

Longcat

Ops to the first people there? Shouldn't they go to at least mods in here or voted for on people who can hold the rank responsibly?

I'm new. I gave ops to Longcat and Darkblade. I'll deop myself, and let you two figure it out.

A bit of info on what you're using to connect would help first.

Step 1. download a client. I use trillian which can be downloaded for free from http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/ .

Step 2. set up a connection. Server name will be irc.enterthegame.com
Once you're connected type /join #twistingnether

To change your screen name type /nick *insertname*

Step 3. Talk to people and enjoy!

Step 4. Send me cookies in the mail.

Or you can download http://www.mirc.com/ for just IRC alone.

Pretty much same process, select the server and same commands.

I just can't make an offical channel with set ops and blah so I made a channel on irc.sorcery.net ( might have to manually put that into the servers list ) named #tng. I'll be in there pretty much whenever I'm awake under the nick Tawa ( I chat in a different room on the same server ) and probably some other names when I play Werewolf or D&D.

Soraxis

so which one are we using?

Longcat
01-16-2006, 12:56 AM
I dunno, I perfer to have a room that can be set to have a number of people as usual ops when there might be one unoped person online who's afk or something.

Cyrce

Let's go with Longcat's channel then.

Longcat
01-16-2006, 01:42 AM
So, who should be the ops inthe channel? Same people who are mods in here?

Methinks you're in the wrong channel. Soraxis, Cyrce (whom I believe is Longcat on the forum), and I are in #tng.

Nay, Cyrce is me. Newbie Extraordinaire.

the channel's on the irc.sorcery.net server. If it's not in the server list, you'll have to manually put it in there or just put in the command /connect irc.sorcery.net and then /join #tng

Well this is excellent!

Now we just need more people on the server, then it'll be a party :3

I use irssi on my freebsd server, so I've set myself in the channel and will try to connect to it while at school. My irc nick is maaneeack (I use that everywhere but here and wow). If I don't respond it's because I'm not actually looking at that right now, I don't usually keep an SSH session going anymore, but I ought to get back in the habit, I miss my irc days heh.

(I'm a Grunt and level 51 now, hope to be sergeant or higher after today's maint. Wonder when the sig picture will be updated again...)
