View Full Version : Why do Forsaken destroy their clothing?

That sounds a bit silly, I admit. But, after having my character live amongst the Forsaken for such a long time, I have wondered about why all their clothing seems to be torn, as to show their elbows, ribcage, spines...etc. I realize Blizzard did this but, does it bother anyone but me?
Why can't undead simply wear clothes normally like all the other races?

Yeah, I wondered this for awhile too.
I just used fanboy justification and decided it was the jagged bones that were causing all the problems...

I'm sure the reason they did it gamewise was to make it so we didn't just look like hunched over humans, but were visibly undead. As for reasoning, I'm not sure. I think looking like that, bones exposed and the such, is more intimidating, which gives the Forsaken a psychological combat advantage. Or some such.

I just think it looks cool and unique. -shrug-

I kinda think they'd look cooler if it wasn't torn. :)

really I think its decays to prolonged exposure to the living dead meh my theory atleast. I only get it from the warlock in the first WoW cinematic. As he steps on to the ground the ground decays into the blighted ground seen from the warcraft RTS games. Plus a lot of fan art of the dead like to depict armor that is there but also in somewhat decaying or aging appearance about it. Now why don't the weapons show anything from my theory? Well I would guess armor being more exposed and closely equipped to them that it would see a more of a effect then the weapon.
Or for instance my undead rogue as some new leather gloves but of course the finger wont fit the finger bones correctly. Undead don't care about armor appearance as long as its functional. So my Undead rogue decays the gloves as it warps to fit his skeletal hand and the finger wholes rip open to fit his boney fingers. *shrugs* Thats how I've always seen it the undead just seem to have a decaying nature about them, that extends to the ground they walk on to the things they wear.

because my arm is just a fricken bone if I left the plates there I wouldnt be able to bend, mobility people mobility. When you are just bones and decayed flesh you have to find a way to compensate.

I think the posture and the way they run would be enough to distinguish an undead from a human/elf. The guys run around like those zombies from Dawn of the Dead, and the women run like their hips are going to dislocate from their upper body and continue on without it.
And considering there's no muscles to really warrant logical explanation of why their limbs can move, the whole concept of "Necromatic magics under my control enable me to move" explanation would be valid enough. An undead wearing plate would focus enough of it to move their limbs with 100+lbs of armor and weapons on, while one that wears lighter armor would use that energy to say... quicken their speed, or cast spells.... The power of "AAAUGH SO ANGRYYYYY" (Yatokth, Raven Cross Vent) would be further means for an undead warrior to bear the burden of plate, and heavy ass weapons, too. :P

I hate that also, when I imagine my character in an RP sense none of that would be visible, especially not the spine.

I'm going to stick with the intimidation factor. Looking as scary as possible to your enemy = win :D

Because they don't take care of their clothes and armor. What do they care, they're dead. Apparently those gaping holes don't reduce how much damage reduction the armor provides, anyway—but we already knew the armor-to-skin ratio has nothing to do with that.
It doesn't make sense. It's supposed to look cool. RPers can use their imaginations when it comes to the condition of the armor, or the decomposition on a Forsaken's body, because expecting hundreds of people to all expose the same bits of bone is stupid.

Don't forget cloth and mail have that tendency of getting snagged between the joints. If they don't rip those parts, the Forsaken will be tripping, falling and having trouble swinging their weapons.

Im with the OP on this one. I make or loot this brand new robe! Its got purple lettering.. it glows donchaknow... I can feel the very forces of darkness wrapped up in its oh so sexy threads... oh wait THE ARMS ARE WORN THROUGH?! How did that happen?!
That said I only really have issues with UD in plate, just doesnt work, this is the sole reason why my DK wont be a forsaken.
